Yes, but, only a single aspect. Digit flexors. You still got to train digit extension, then wrist extension/flexion/eversion/inversion/supination/pronation... All those movements contribute to "grip". Grippers only train one part, closing your hand, there's a lot more to grip than that.

Grippers didn't work for me but lifting heavy did. Barbell work is best. I dont even target forearms and that still worked better than grippers.

Seconding. Dumbbells and pullups blast my forearms like nothing else due to the grip strength needed to perform those exercises.
