>Who is /fat/ for?
For Desert destroyers who are working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros), LoseIt (great for both), or Waistline (FOSS).

>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. No lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

I kinda feel weird asking this here but I've lost like 40lbs, I'm in my late 30s and I just got morning wood for the first time since I was a fucking teenager, is that.. normal? I've been popping boners at random even when not consciously aroused, I'm not used to this. This happen to anyone else when they lost weight?

Did this happen during your steep caloric deficit as well or just after you've lost the weight and stabilized calories? I know losing weight can help with erections but sometimes during a deep cut they temporarily get worse....curious as to what happened with you.

Alright, good to know. It just feels so weird waking up with a boner, like I haven't had that happen since I was a teenager and I've pretty much had one every morning for the last few weeks. I've lost a huge amount of weight in the past doing protein + salad as my meals (mainly salmon and chicken) but I'd like to cut back.

Good movement this week. My best friend's wedding is next week. My suit that I got at my biggest is now way too big for me. The tailor couldn't bring it down enough. I feel that now kek. Mix of loneliness, poverty and low self esteem especially thanks to how I feel that I look. My dad always tells me I’m never happy and shit and it’s kind of true, then when I visited my aunt she asked why am I always frowning. It really sucks to be egged on about frowning when I’m already unhappy due to a multitude of things. Not doing it on purpose, I just wish I could make myself feel better already. It’s no wonder I dropped 100lbs and the g gained back 70 of it. I didn’t settle with my inner demons. I was in Walmart and saw my reflection and I hated that I saw an obese person again instead of the one I worked so hard to get skinny for
>>
74.2 kg this morning.

was 80 kg in March.

I drastically decreased my caloric intake. Last time I wrote here I was talking about moving to high protein diet ALONG with reducing calorie intake.

Recent experience with constipation made me cut off animal meat protein in favor of fish. A few important notes on that. Red fish is great but in moderation - even farmed/ranched salmon/tuna is OK but wild is superior. Tuna is the least optimal fish due to high mercury content. White fish is better, but I have had poor experience with tilapia. It's a freshwater fish and the taste is meh, even if seasoned. I did enjoy Alaska pollock and Pacific hake much more. Wild caught pelagic fish has fewer calories and more protein packed in it. About 350 grams of Hake packs only 280 kcal but a whooping 63 grams of protein. One kilo of hake will yield 189 grams of protein but only 840 kcal. Add some air fried broccoli or cauliflower, salt plus seasoning to that and you've got yourself a daily plan below 1200 kcal = you literally can't fail losing weight with this unless you're a midget.
>>
>>77266970
>cont'd

But I cut even white fish to just a few times a week at most. I had to go back adding carbs to my diet but it's coming only from dairy. Hard and mild cheeses are great. I down them with yogurt / kefir and it gives me a protein/calcium boost. Extra fat from hard cheese helps a lot but yogurts generally have way higher sugar/carb content, so smaller portions are better. I eat only 40-50 grams of cheese per meal, so I don't overshoot on the calorie content. On a side note, we do have these vegan "full-meal" shakes. They are nice if you don't care about content (like seed oils -ewww) and they have 300-400 kcal per bottle. However, they are expensive and there are yogurts that are not only cheaper but have actual dairy, which are much better for digestion. Moreover, since they are fermented, they are far more palatable than milk. I have a serious case of lactose reaction, so having excess of it consumed by the lactobacteria is a great option for me.

At 74 kg I feel better but I still have a visible belly fat even early in the morning. I am using picrel to calculate the "calorie ceiling" for me. Even though I exercise 2 times a week, I use the "sedentary" setting when calculating 1 kg per week loss. I just see better results with it sooner, and it motivates me much more as well.
>>
>>77266900
>That man was slowly trying to kill himself.
Sometimes we convince ourselves we're living, when really we are merely waiting to die. Slimming down from obesity is how I finally found true happiness and I had to deal with people constantly telling me "Becoming fit isn't going to magically make you happier, you have to learn to love yourself for who you are!" all along the way. How can I love myself if my gut so big I can't even see my dick? And I'm not one of those fatties who blames others for getting here, I ate the food, I accept the blame. The process of getting into shape (focus, discipline, sticking to it even if I relapsed into shitty behaviors) is what brought me confidence and happiness. Sorry for the tangent, great work turning your life around, bud.

Once saw a documentary where these prisoners in madagascar worked out with equipment made from bottles of water. 8x 1.5L bottles with water is 20kg, fill a bag with those and you got a makeshift kettlebell, if unwieldly.
Also dips and pull ups.

I stopped putting my name in the weight loss tracker after joining the contest, losing 2 pounds one week, and then gaining it back.
Ironically since March 1st after I declined to put another new alias in there I've lost 22lbs.
Anyway, question: has anyone else become more porn averse as they lose weight? I'm still not talking to women so idk why, I've just felt even more disgust at porn. And I just watch female solo stuff anyway I've never liked seeing guys on porn ever since I first started watching it, its the same reason I dont like watching pro sports. Just watching some other dude have all the fun, what's the point in that? I'm getting on a tangent so I'll stop here.
>>
>>77267176
>What should I eat throughout the day to keep me satiated but not going over my TDEE?
There are two thing you can do, and you can do both at the same time.

First, you can eat stuff that fills you but have almost no calories, like non-starch vegetables.

Second, you can increase the proportion of protein and good fats, as these are more filling.

Well your mums last video was pretty good. But what's happening, I think, is that because we're fat, we use porn, camgirls, brothels as a substitute for companionship because we feel we don't deserve it due to our self-loathing caused by our size. So as we get lighter, we change our mental perception slowly, and porn just stops being effective because of its fraudulent nature, because we crave true, genuine companionship

Atkins's prior heart issues to his low-carb, high-fat diet. Dr. Atkins and his medical team maintained his heart conditions (including a 2002 cardiac arrest) were caused by a viral cardiomyopathy, not diet. A leaked medical report later noted a history of heart attack, congestive heart failure, and obesity at the time of his death

Anyways, healthies populations on planet eat low fat, high carb. Billion asians ate only rice, zero obesity, zero diabetse. Once they moved to usa they gain within a generation, it's not genetics

there are tribes like in new papua new guinea highlanders Study

they eat 90% of their calories from sweet potatos.
Carbohydrate 95% of total energy, daily calories avg for the tribe people 2390

Perfect blood markets, muscular, healthy super energetic, viral tribe.

Ketosis = State of sickness, => lose appetite

keto diets are not sustainable, they all gain their weight back. Ldl also goes dangerously high in many cases because of the fat obviously. It's horrendous diet. Y

WHen you eat high carb low fat you can eat as much as you can, and never gain weight and lose it because carbs burn as heat.
So you can eat pasta bolognes, chili con carne, pancaces as much as you want, it's a perfect diet, lose weight and eat tasty foods as much as you want

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJl2c9bCYOc

you can replace meat with very low fat meats, and use less amount for like tomato sauces etc. if you dont want to go vegan, but you will have to eat low fat to lose weight

Why is my gf not losing weight? She tracks strictly, weighs everything with a kitchen scale and has not lot weight since beginning the diet about 5 weeks ago.

She is eating 1400kcal daily, weighs 167lbs and is 5"3 at 30yo and walks around 10k steps daily at her job.
I suspect it has to do with her quitting smoking at the same day she started the diet?

My brother go hit the gym and put on some muscle, you will feel 100x better about your physique. Having no muscle mass is why you never feel you look right despite being almost underweight. It'll fill you out and displace whatever fat you have.

>Anyway, question: has anyone else become more porn averse as they lose weight? I'm still not talking to women so idk why, I've just felt even more disgust at porn.
Porn is unironically evil, it does a lot of damage to a man's mind and sense of self worth / self esteem. The girls are petite and they use camera / filming trick to make the dudes dick look bigger than it actually is. It's fine to masturbate, but masturbating to porn is not worth it.

Her tdee is ~1700 kcal so at 1400 thats like .5 lbs a week loss. In 5 weeks she should be down ~2.5 lbs. Either she's eating more than she thinks and is hitting her maintenence calories or the mild weight loss she's on track for is going to take a little bit longer to actually show results. A 300 cal deficit is pretty small IMO and it would be pretty easy for someone who isnt experienced in food tracking to accidently go over, or if she's sneaking food a single serving of junk food or one can of soda would pretty much erase her deficit.

LMAO I worked out my body fat percentage using the US Navy formula by taking my waist and neck measurement and recalculated my TDEE and it was 1000 calories lower depending on the formula. Others put my new recalculated TDEE at 1500 calories lower.

I'm a smart guy but even I fucked up with this. No wonder so many people fucking suck at losing weight. Wow.

Previous TDEE was 5500 calories assuming daily long walks.

Current one is just under 4000. Some others put it at 4500. I was eating 3300-3500 thinking I should still get a 4 lb weekly drop.

To the other anons calculate your body fat percentage and use sailrabbit.com to work it out correctly.

Super Active (Professional Athlete/Manual Laborer): ~185 kg (408 lbs). This assumes a high activity multiplier of 1.9 for someone training twice daily or working a grueling physical job.
Moderately Active (Daily Exercise): ~245 kg (540 lbs). At a 1.55 multiplier, a person must be significantly heavier to reach this burn rate.
Sedentary (Little to No Exercise): ~330 kg (727 lbs). For someone with minimal movement, the body must be exceptionally large to burn 5,500 kcal just to maintain its basic functions and minimal daily movement.

I do insane amount of walking, 40-50k steps a day.

I also lowered my caloric intake to 1200 max this week. I use food scales and everything.

My TDEE should be like 3500-4000ish?

Male, 36, 5'10, 173.8lbs.

I lost 1.4lbs this week. I wasn't getting enough protein til this week, I try for 140-150g a day now.

Am I likely retaining water from increased protein?

You don't need to exercise to lose weight. All you need to do is eat less and be in a calorie deficit.
>>
>>77268349
if you keep your deficit small you'll still have energy to exercise
i would recommend that for general health over a larger deficit that lets you lose weight faster but leaves you with too little energy for exercise
and yeah exercise isn't necessary for weight loss but it is necessary for life in general
>>
Does anybody else get depressed, even suicidal, while cutting? I think cutting all these carbs is messing up my brain chemistry or something. This has been a consistent pattern for me over the years and I'm wondering if anyone else can relate
>>
>>77268285
>having a "cheat" day for once because i got food thats about to go bad
i had a cheat day on wednesday and only recovered from it today it must have been all the salt or something because the scale barely moved for 2 days then today i dropped almost 1.5 lbs. also you can just cook the stuff and store it for another 3 days no?
>>
>>77268340
Sure you did, you're a very special big boy and we all think you're really cool.
>>
>>77268357
You just sound like a bitch
>>
>>77268358
Actually an interesting thing: expiration date is absolute, even if you cook it. But rarely the item actually expires that day.
>>
>>77268357
For me its either low fats or really low calorie, if I go under like 10% fats or like 1000kcal I get depressed, you're probably nuking your T levels. Try doing at an absolute minimum 1500kcal with 30% of that coming from fat and see if mood improves.
>>
>>77268358
My fridge is broken and I'm too poor to replace it right now

Also I'm fasting for 26 hours since I ate off my normal eating schedule today ( I normally eat at 1pm-8pm)
And I'm doing my daily 2-3 hours of walking, so I'm not afraid of really gaining anything thankfully
>time to take a nap
>>
>>77268373
My maintenance is about 1500, so unfortunately it is necessary for me to eat lower than that in order to lose weight, which makes excess fat consumption an unappealing idea
>>
>>77268331
Yeah well I am at 4500 kcal now for my TDEE with 10k steps when accounting for BF%. 5500 cal was what the TDEE calc gave me without putting in my body fat. It probably assumed I was 460 at 25% body fat lol.

>>77268088
Are you retarded or just trying to wreck your body? Your TDEE is like 2000, more like 2700 probably. You could eat 2500 calories low fat high protein like 200g and get 20k steps in a day, prioritize sleep and lose 3 lbs or more of pure fat a week and be done in 5 weeks.
>>
>>77268373
Low fat does not nuke your T or hormones. You are just undereating.
>>
>>77268402
Nah, I was doing like 8~10% fat at 1500kcal and it got me super depressed, adjusting my macros so that fats made up ~30% fixed it. I don't recommend going under ~30% of your calories coming from fats if you can help it.
>>
>>77268408
yeah 1500 kcal is low calories. And there is a 'metabolic advantage' when going low fat or low carb that lets you get away with an extra 200 to 300 calories. That being said whatever helps get the weight off.

Lower your sodium somewhat, or make sure you sweat out a lot. Sauna if you can, cardio you must. No "white carbs", no excess carbs (pasta/bread/any sort of filth), celibacy and hormonal balance helps, get some fats, intake high quality protons at consistent intervals, no pump workouts to reduce inflammation (greese the groove is ok), eat fruits and fiber.

Idiot. It's easy. 800 calories for one hour, break for a few hours, then another 800 calories. You've never used an exercise bike in your life.

Ayahuasca diet is ok. Fasting keeps the muscles safe, you don't break your muscles from just laying around. An added plus is you find God and forget why you ever ate slop to begin with.

it totally could. and if you at asian food it probably had a decent amount of salt/MSG in it so you're retaining more water. I'm not really sure what the point of comparing after eating and also wearing clothes is though anyway

> I'm not really sure what the point of comparing after eating and also wearing clothes is though anyway.
I dunno, I just like to do it at the end of the day so when I weigh in the next morning I can get an idea of how much of the end weight was just food and water.
