flat bench would do the same thing, they're working out the same part of the pec. it already doesn't hit upper chest for the majority of people. dips have the benefit of hitting more stabilizers like the serratus

I was coached into doing decline when I was a beginner and had trouble getting pecs involved on presses. It worked and now I do flat and incline like a normal person.
