When did the Mr. Olympia peak and go downhill?
>>77270967Yates was both the peak and the downhill
>>77270967From 1993 to now, they all look exactly the same. It's solely about lighting. All the shows now are filmed with chinkdroid cameras, horrid yellow and white lighting from every single angle and a background that looks like a mumbai advertisement panel.Take any top 20 olympia open classic whatever you want over the course of the last 5 years. Go to their instagram, pick their professional shoots, remove the background and put it in black and white and now you have le heckin aesthetic golden era terra herculesThe only difference i can concede is jay cutler making clown leg adductors popular
>>77270967>Peak 2003
>>77270976thread/
>>7727096779' looks like peak physique to me
mass appeal peaked with haney and its been downhill since Dorian brought in the gh/insulin etc. Its clearly shifted away from aesthetics towards size/mass and its resisted any attempt to reverse course (see Samson in 2025)
The mass monster era. I personally think that bodybuilding should be a pursuit of aesthetics not just who can get larger. Yes it is incredibly impressive how huge and cut people like ronnie can get, but honestly it just doesnt look very good. They barely look fucking human. As cliche of an opinion as it is Arnold and his generation marked the absolute peak of aesthetic bodybuilding and the classic physique is always going to be superior. Proportion, definition, overall shape, symmetry, and aesthetic appeal. thats all much more important to bodybuilding IMO than absolute mass and the obsessive pursuit of ascending humanity has made bodybuilding incredibly unappealing to anyone not already in the sport.
>>77271012I mean to say the mass monster era is when it was obviously going downhill.
>>77270967I believe Phil Heath was the last good Mr Olympia, not including classic physique or 212. Every one of them after Phil Heath has just looked awful. Derek Lunsford actually looks like trash. But id say Dorian Yates was the beginning of the end, just as the other anon said. Yates started the trend of mass at the cost of aesthetics and fridge waists.

>>77270967Who gives a shit? They're disgusting looking and can't barely walk up a flight of stairs.
>>77270976was he peakhill or downpeak?
>>77270967Frank Zane is peak imo
>>77271145Dude, what is that definition, thats wild.>>77271330Probably the most pratical build.
>>77270967Looks like 65 is the peak and everything past there is increasingly grotesque shades of roid transexualism
>>77271412They had roids in the 1940s.
>>77271432I didn't say it was roid free I said it was increasingly grotesque shades of roid transsexualism. If you make something human looking with steroids fine but once you go beyond there it's all hyper gay fetish shit you'd have to be sick to want to look like that or desire that.
>>77270967Bodybuilding should be about who can get the most freaky huge and ripped.Aesthetics considerations just turns it into a gay pageant. It need to be objective, and that is the biggest muscles with the least bodyfat. Not whoever looks the most beautiful (subjective and gay).We want to see freaks of nature. If you want classic physiques go watch classic physique where they artificially throttle peoples potential.
>>77270967Probably dorian yates ish or a little earlier.Ronnie coleman and jay cutler is where it started getting really freakinsh imo thoughthey're awesome personalities
>>77271458Would skew towards height bc they can put wider muscles on their frames.Imo they should deduct some pints if they look unhealthy for sure otherwise everyone will copy the meta and end up with the same diseases(like a crowded gut).
>>77271016Crazy how Oliva is worse in literally everything, I would have thougth he'd have better arms than arnold, but now, they just look featureless, smooth and fat. Also, he sorta looks like Larry Wheels face wise.
>>77270967Like everything els ein the US, as soon as they started preferring the blacks, really.
never. They all look like mutated pigs.
>>77271407>Dude, what is that definition, thats wild.Yeah. 96 German Grand Prix.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IaaL6hUVaxc&t=38s
>>772709671991. though its still somewhat passable after that theyre just unaesthetic
>>772709671940s was when bodybuilding was at its height as anabolic steroids weren't widely known back then or used for anything but livestock research. When people started using roids it became a race to the bottom as the winner was the one who was willing to sacrifice his lifespan the most to become a mutant.
>>77272055>96 German Grand Prix. Damon Hill won that one.
>>772709671983Everything after that looks like giganigga 9000
>>77270967They look like they were dipped in the river Onions like Achilles.
>>77271818Yeah it's kinda crazy how his arms lack definition that much while being that shredded. I guess he genetically carried a lot of fat in his arms - looking at his arms alone if the rest of his body was covered I'd legitimately guess 20% bf. Even his smaller waist just makes him look weaker and less powerful than Arnold with his thick waist
>>77270967what is up with painting them with spray-tan? i never understood that
>>77271432That's a load of shit. Nothing was commercially available before the late 1950s.
>>77273014Supposedly makes definition pop. Covers up acne.
>>77271016ngl, 212 is just turbomanlets and even a lot of classic dudes look like shit with their goofy-ass legs and extreme X frames, feels like mass monsters sans GH gut... i would love to see a new bodybuilding production that rewards actually aesthetic physiques like >>77271330 and >>77271016
pro bodybuilding is a pyramid scheme run by gay guys who're dicking down all the contestants
