>Who is /fat/ for?
For caffeinated cacophonous chubs who are working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros), LoseIt (great for both), or Waistline (FOSS).

>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. No lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

I have some icecream and other snacks that are going to expire in a few weeks and I don't know what to do. I don't want to just waste food by throwing it away but I'm afraid to even have a bite of chocolate at this point since my weight loss progress has been so good. I haven't eaten an unhealthy snack in weeks at this point.

I've successfully only gained 1.3kg in the 2 months since my second child was born.

I lose the same exact amount of weight regardless of macro composition on the same calories, the only difference is lifting feels worse on keto. So ~200g carbs per day it is.
I do love how easy it is to OMAD keto and not think about food at all though.

2500kcal is so good
I'm never running a deficit ever again, I'll just recomp for the rest of my life
>>
>>77381161
How long have you stayed at 344 for?
A few things that could be happening
>You're not being very active which is limiting your TDEE to 3200 (obviously, this number will vary) and you're forgetting to count small thing like oil. milk in coffee, sauces, small nibbles of someone's food etc.
Its easy as shit for that to add up to 1000+ calories without even thinking of it
Alternatively
>You're gonna hit a woosh
I had a period where my TDEE should have been 3000 or so, I was eating around 2K calories a day and not seeing any movement for 2 weeks
I finally decided to reassess things and I was eating closer to around 2800

When you drastically cut to 1.5K you can slip into a mentality of
>Well its ok if I just have one small bar of chocolate because my deficit is so high
If you find yourself falling into that just bump up to 1800 and don't limit yourself so much, ironically it can help to eat the things you shouldn't so long as its in moderation
>>
>>77381543
This is part of why my autistic spreadsheet that I've shared screenshots of before has me log my calories every day. It has a built in formula that recalculates my TDEE every 6 weeks so I can adjust my deficit accordingly.
Sometimes, like yesterday, I still get upset about week long stalls, but it happens.

Protein bars are a scam, they're "high protein" but still contain lots of saturated fats and carbs alongside not that much extra protein, combined with the high price and godawful taste, it's better to just eat fruit mixed in skyr yoghurt if you want something sweet but high in protein without it tasting like a literal brick
>>
So the secret to losing weight is literally just eat less? Doesn't seem that hard
>>
>>77380630
In my experience protein bars still have way too much fat and sugar and too little protein to be healthy. They are also pretty expensive, if you want easy protein just take some whey

Nope. Eating less destroys your metabolism and causes weight regain.
>>
Be careful with nutrition facts on the box and weigh the food. For example, I've been measuring bran flakes using a measuring cup. Today I decided to weigh it in order to adjust for a kiwi fruit I ate. It weighed over 50 grams in the measuring cup, while the box said a cup weighs 38 grams. Lesson learned.
>>
>>77381807
Regain is caused by people not easing properly into their new diet or simply eating exactly like what made them fat in the fist place.
>>
>>77381818
Regain is caused by metabolic slowdown from doing CICO.

>I reach my protein macros and got like 600 ca
Make sure you're getting adequate fat which is usually about 55 G for the average man but make it more about 65. If you're not getting enough fat, your testosterone will nose die. People always forget they need this minimum. But after you hit fat, go with carbs and it can be slop if you want . Unless you're doing keto in which case put it back into fat and protein . Again, slop is fine. Not optimal, but it's fine.

Space Marine changes I would make.

Combine Intercessors and Assault Intercessors, then make it so the ability they get is based on whether you choose a ranged kit or a melee kit.

Combine Infernus, Hellblasters, and Desolators. Do the same - their ability is determined by the kit you choose.

Once more, we combine Aggressors, Eradicators (Melta and Bolter) and Heavy Intercessors. Same as above, with Heavy Int making the unit gain Battleline.

Basically, I think a lot of the datasheets should be condensed and made more modular.

My gymbro claims he eats icecream 2 or 3 times a week and it doesn't fuck with his weight loss or building, and it's purely because of his intake of protein (roughly 170g based on his height and weight). Any more knowledgeable people able to tell me if there's truth to this? Should I start pounding protein in the same way? Obviously I won't be eating a shitload of icecream but I'm curious of the protein can somewhat offset some occasional bad eating (I have a work dinner to attend and it's set menu).
>>
>>77383373
As long as he's under his daily calorie expenditure he can eat ice cream, so not impossible.
>>
>>77383373
theoretically, you can eat anything you want as long as it is within your calorie limit.
high protein is recommended to get a grip on hunger mainly and to maybe enhance muscle building and prevent muscle loss.
first time i'm hearing about your friend's bullshit.
>>
>>77383378
I did read about a study where they took a group of normies that just ate normal diets and did no exercise and it was found that adding protein lead to them losing 11lbs over 3 months despite making absolutely no other changes to their lives.
>>
>>77383385
>adding protein
was it added or substituted?
anyway, protein satiates people which would lead to eating less. it also has a higher thermic effect; the body needs to spend more calories to digest it than the other macros so its effective calories are lower.
>>
>>77383387

What was the biggest weight drop you guys had after a plateau? For me it was 4.7 pounds.
>>
You guys ever had an irl gym bro who's well meaning and fit/buff but gave absolutely retarded advice or misinformation? I knew a guy who is 260 pounds of muscle but suggested to me to limit my fat intake to 40 grams max, minimize my carbs as much as humanly possible (even though im doing cardio and working out) and tells me 1 pound of muscle burns 50-60 calories a day.
>>
>>77383396
What's the misinfo exactly? Carbs are a bad thing for weight loss, fat is bad for weight loss and having muscle does burn calories.
>>
>>77383397
NTA, but 40 grams of fat daily is too low. If you dont consume a minimum of 55 grams of fat (heavily preferably good fats ofc) it leads to low T and hormonal imbalance. The no fat ever cause fat makes you fat idea is a very outdated concept in the 80s-90s.

Muscle does burn calories but 50-60 a day is gymbro lore, the actual number is probably around 6-10 from scientific studies.

The carbs thing is debatable, ig that specific gymbro is into keto but i personally feel that if youre actually working out in addition to your dieting then you need some amount of carbs to use as fuel for your exercise.
>>
>>77383406
In my mind I figured OP meant "fat" as in fat on a steak or something, not healthy fat like from nuts or fish. Similar with things like carbs, I think OPs perhaps misunderstood his friend if he wasn't very clear on specifics (as there are also good and bad carbs).

As for the muscles, sure that's an inflated number, but muscle will still burn calories.

I hit my protein goals every day and do some light weight lifting 3-4 times a day, all that said am i still eating too little despite hitting my protein goals, and does it matter? I dont feel dizzy or lightheaded.

>>
>>77383505
>How true is that?
I think theres some confusion and people just use a bit of Chinese whispers to make it more dramatic
Losing weight fast will just grab weight from anywhere, fat cells, muscle, essential fats etc.
Try not to dip under 1500 on average and try to keep yourself closer to 1800 just to keep things going normally.
>should slow down
110kg-95 in weeks is pretty fast, I would heavily suggest slowing down.
Here's the thing, you'll need to eat around 2000 calories every day for the rest of your life to not gain weight
I've been eating at 1800 for close to a year or so, I know what recipes I can cook to fit that in, I can eat that and feel good.
If you're just aggressively cutting to 600 for 3 months, you're going to slip back into bad habits when you're done. This is why people rebound SO OFTEN
You need to create new sustainable habits, 600 isn't sustainable.

I think this sort of fits the thread except it's not entirely about me

>Injured myself and stopped going to the gym
>Which means I'm now out of shape and have put weight on
>Not too much of an issue because I know I can lose it and get back into shape before it gets out of hand
This is the part I'm struggling with
>Start dating a girl
>She's really out of shape and I would probably say obese
>But she's really sweet
>She seems to flip between not caring about being the way she is and it upsetting her
>Mainly because people stare at us
>I don't look out of shape if I have my clothes on so I can still get away with it, but she can't no matter what she wears
>I want her to lose weight because I know she'll be much happier
>But I don't exactly what to turn around and say "listen you fat pig, but those cookies down and go for a sprint"

What do bros? How do I broach the subject without upsetting her? We've never talked about her weight exactly, but we have spoken about weight in general.
If we lived together, fuck me even if we lived closer, it would be a lot easier because I could encourage her more and keep her on track. Plus I would be doing it too so she wouldn't be doing it alone. We live about 20 miles apart so we don't see each other every day or anything and I know she doesn't have the drive to do it on her own, but I do feel once she started seeing progress she would be able to keep it up by herself.

Recently I've encouraged her to walk when we're together as a form of light exercise and she seems to really enjoy it which lets me know it is possible to potentially do more. Gradually I've increased the length of the walks too which she seems to enjoy. Despite her size, she doesn't need to stop for rests, she's not out of breath, or any of that so I feel like that's a bonus. At the same time I don't want to push too much too quickly and make her hate it.

I would appreciate any advice if you have any.

>>
>>77383875
I was worried that might be the case. We are going away to a popular hiking place (not to hike, just to get away for a bit and for "the views") so I'm sure I could convince her to do a bit more difficult of a trail once we were there.

>If she is content with her life and you aren't with her, then we both know where this is eventually going to go

Do you mean she'll go back to being fat because I'm not physically with her or do you mean she'll drop me for someone better if she gets in shape because we aren't together in a relationship? If it's the former I think she wouldn't let herself get back to the way she is now because of the benefits she'll feel from having lost weight. If it's the latter she really really wants to be in a relationship with me but I'm holding off for now. There's a few reasons behind that decision.
I don't think she is content as much as she makes on neither which is why she flipflops so much. It seems more like she's trying to convince herself she's content because it's the easy option.

Appreciate the reply bro.

Starting to lose my mind a bit here.
Been on 1800 kcal for roughly two and a half month (I was even way lower the first 2 weeks due to thrombosed hemorrhoids)
Decided to lose weight after that. I'm not obese but easily over 20% bf. 85 kilos.
When I was younger i could easily cut down to 70 (even been down to 65). I'm now 30+, eating and doing everything like I did when I used to cut before.
But I'm now at 86 kilos. Not once have I been under 84,5 kilos.

he means that if there's some element of her life she's content with, but you're looking at it and wanting her to change (especially if you and her don't live together for your own lifestyle choices to rub off on her easily), the odds of it going the way you want are not high.
i'm wondering if she's had any past experiences with trying to lose weight that didn't work out. i think a lot of people who land on "i'm fine with how i am, this is just the way my body is built" and so on get there after suffering through some weight loss attempts that were ineffectual, too extreme, caused rebound weight gain, etc. if you know she's ever been seriously interested in losing weight, it could be a positive thing to let her know that it's totally possible for her to be in shape with the right methods and that you could help her lose weight in a way that will work and won't be unhealthy for her. it's just a matter of conveying that message in a way that doesn't come off like "i'm disgusted with your weight and need you to change".
but she definitely needs to have an intrinsic motivation to lose weight for discussion like that to not be ineffective at best or hurtful at worst. like if she seems to only ever worry about her weight if people are staring/making comments, that's not too clearly a desire to be lose weight for its own sake, it's a desire to not be mocked and humiliated. it doesn't necessarily mean that she agrees with people who are making her feel humiliated for her weight that there's something wrong with her weight to begin with, if that makes sense.

I get what he means now thanks.

She was sort of telling me about her past last time and it all seemed to involve her weight. Mostly her mother calling her fat and things like that when she was younger. But I couldn't pay too much attention because I was concentrating on the road. Truth be told it was really the kind of thing she should have told me when we were sat down somewhere. I get the impression she wasn't that big when she was younger because she did actual dance and stuff and she's still incredibly flexible despite how big she is now.
I'm going to get her to tell me again what she said about her mother calling her fat and things so I can try to work from there.
>it could be a positive thing to let her know that it's totally possible for her to be in shape with the right methods and that you could help her
That's the other thing I'm planning. I've told her a few times I'm going to get back to how I was to gauge her reaction and it's always positive. It's never "I like you the way you are, stay like that" the way crabs do. She also really really enjoys us doing anything at all together so it might be easier than I thought to bring some extra fitness into it.

>that's not too clearly a desire to be lose weight for its own sake, it's a desire to not be mocked and humiliated
That's very true. I did misspeak when I said she only mentions it when people stare. That seems to bring it on more, sure, but she has mentioned it many times without that.
She actually had/has a gym membership, but stopped going because she had no one to go with so she definitely has some of her own motivation. I think that's also a good thing to bring up to her actually come to think of it. It feels like she really just needs someone to give her a bit of extra motivation. At the same time I feel like she needs to bring it up and for me to latch onto it because it's a bit of a tender subject if I say it out of the blue.

Appreciate the help very much. Thanks.

This picture inspired me to try and make brussells sprouts with garlic and onions. FUCK what a mistake that was. These things are the second most bitter awful fucking things I have ever had in my life, the first is bitter melon.

I made a huge fuckload of them too.

They ARE overrated as fuck, ever noticed how gymbros never shill brussel sprouts? Cooking youtubers and influencers get their tits hard over it and hype it up because they cook brussel sprouts with so much oil butter and fats it completely negates any actual nutriention from the vegetable.
>>
Apparently my TDEE at 18% bf is 2700-2750. I'm coming down from like 40% bf, but I know once you get under 20% and start heading towards 12% the deficit should be smaller. So I'm thinking 2200kcal.

Mine look like that though if I could them in the airfryer. But yeh, I do give them a quick spray of olive oil first, you're correct.

I managed to save the sprouts by re-cooking them. Turns out you have to cook the shit out of them to the point of lots of burning to reduce that bitter taste. A quick nuke in the microwave like I do with broccoli and beans is not good enough.

Not bad with some salt and lime juice.

Luckily, my enabler doesn't realize that having more muscle = higher TDEE.
It's not an ideal way over cutting calories, but you have to make do with what you can.

>>
>>77385290
Like anything, it's about how much you have. Anything can be bad for you if you have too much of it. It's like how red wine is really bad if you have too much but having just one glass with dinner can be quite healthy and good for the heart.
>>
>>77383164
Fats are not good people. Most of them are depressed and deeply insecure and act as crabs in a bucket trying to sabotage people around them who they see getting fit and healthy. Don't fall for the meme that fat ugly people are kind and beautiful on the inside. Sure, a few of them are genuinely kind and supportive people but most of them are as ugly on the inside as they are on the outside
>your fat anime friends were trying to shame and peer pressure you in to quitting your healthy life and diet quest. Is that what quality and supportive friends do?
>>
>>77385293
Ok so how much red beef is healthy and what cuts and preparation methods won't fuck up your heart? Does red meat offer anything beneficial that chicken, turkey, fish and tofu don't?
>>
>>77385299
About half a kilo max per week is the limit, beyond that it can be unhealthy. 100g of red meat has about 30g of protein, so I have maybe 200g of the stuff in week. I prefer chicken more myself though, I seem to have bad luck with red meat that has chewy parts or fatty parts.
>>
>>77385303
So if red meat doesn't offer any benefits that chicken and fish don't, isn't it simply better to just not eat red beef to keep your risk of heart disease as low as possible? I say this as someone extremely gifted at slow BBQing beef ribs, and a longtime enjoyer of rare steak. I've completely cut beef along with many other foods out of my life for health reasons and my life has gotten better, not worse. I miss haribo more than I do red meat.
>>
>>77385311
There's a lot more to red meat but I didn't realize you wanted a full nutritional list from me. Red meat has some things you won't get in chicken or fish and will really struggle to get from just vegetables, so even just a small amount of red meat (even just 100g) is still very good to have.
As I said originally, it's all just about much you have. Less is better, but some is better than none.
>>

How accurate are fitness watches? I think it's way over-estimating calories burned from working out, walking, biking. I should have lost more weight last month based off calories in and calories out that I record.
>>
>>77386009
never. ever. EVER. count calories burned from ANY physical activity into your deficit. EVER. nothing can be accurate, and most devices are INSANELY inaccuarate. always go with sedentary, and even that is an estimate, most TDEE calculators can be anywhere from 10 to 30% off. Also reminder, a lot of products can also be 10 to 30% off on what calories they report. even if its just meat or rice etc. So the only real way to make sure youre eating the right amounts is to try a number track your weight over 1-2 weeks and adjust.
>>
>>77386009
Calorie burned estimates are never to be trusted, they almost always overestimate. Especially when trying to eke out how many extra calories you can get away with in a day. Best to just stick to a consistent deficit and not try to balance it every day based on work.
Honestly fitness watches are kind of a meme in general, even when it comes to tracking steps. I just use mine to track workout time/laps and my heart rate now.
>>

>>
>>77386017
>Honestly fitness watches are kind of a meme in general, even when it comes to tracking steps
Yeah, I just go for a walk 1 hour every day. That's it. I keep it simple, no autistic obsessing over how much i burned or how many steps. 1 hour and done. I eat 2000 calories, I lift heavy shit to failure with high intensity till my muscles give up full body split 3 times a week so that hits every muscle group 3x weekly. I eat around 1g of protein per lb of target body weight and thats it. It's kinda working but its hard to tell how well cause i retain a lot of water weight due to how pumped my muscles get at the gym, creatine and the fact that i drink shitloads of water.
>>
>>77386017
>>77386015
Yeah, based on the numbers this makes 100% sense.
>>
>>77386023
It's frustrating but you just gotta trust the process and keep at it. Yeah maybe you're not losing weight as fast as the sedentary starvemaxxers reporting being 5lbs down every week on the fatty contest, but when you're lifting the scale's never going to tell you the whole story. You might plateau for a whole month, but while your guts going down your arms and legs are going up. When it's all said and done you're going to be looking and feeling good, with strength to boot.
>>
>>77386032
Yeah I know, especially because it's around the same calories I used to eat when I was much skinnier, I used to walk around the same time and I didnt even lift back then. So it should 100% be working, I just started ignoring the scale I almost dont weight myself at all, I trust the process and just grinding, if i weigh myself and see a stall I'll get demotivated, but it's fine I know from personal experience this deficit and workout WILL work. Maybe slower than the autistic starvemaxxers but at least I feel good, if was to drop my deficit more id have no room for carbs too fuel my lifts.
>>

Weight loss is complex, its not just about CICO, by that I mean there's is a mental component to it as well. Granted you've given very little info about your intake so its impossible to judge but either you're in taking too little, in taking the wrong macros and or you have a mental disorder that is antagonizing your diet.
>>
>>77386474
id argue it really isnt that complex, i remember when i was much younger like 10 years ago i gained some weight all i did was switched the stuff i ate to lower calorie options like
>sweetener in my coffee
>zero cal soda
>whole weat stuff
>low fat meats
didnt count calories, just walked a lot, i remember after a few months i went from a size Large to medium.
>>
>>77385087

You can always up the weight, as long as youre hitting around 10 per set and the last reps are challenging you can keep increasing i dont remember the name of this progressive overload but it goes like

>week 2 of the plateau
It's pissing me off so goddamn much. I was dropping weight every week for a quite while and now it's stopped flat and shows me as being the exact same number every day on the scales. I even started eating less, lifting more and adding protein (the amount based on 1g per lb of weight). I'm eating only 1400cal a day at this rate and that's the recommended for losing 2lbs a week.

Will I just wake up one morning and suddenly be thinner when the water weight drops off or what?
