>Who is /fat/ for?
For confectionery confined sphereanons who are working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros), LoseIt (great for both), or Waistline (FOSS).

>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. No lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

Of course I posted as the last thread ended lel.

>week 2 of the plateau
It's pissing me off so goddamn much. I was dropping weight every week for a quite while and now it's stopped flat and shows me as being the exact same number every day on the scales. I even started eating less, lifting more and adding protein (the amount based on 1g per lb of weight). I'm eating only 1400cal a day at this rate and that's the recommended for losing 2lbs a week.

Will I just wake up one morning and suddenly be thinner when the water weight drops off or what?

poor performancec in the gym and even weak erections. I couldn't figure out what was wrong at first. Then it hit me that i'd been avoiding bread, pasta, rice, potato and yep turns out I was in keto for a few weeks. Ate carbs again and gym performance and erections returned to normal.

I haven't seen him in years, did he have a stroke? Jesus, that's depressing, legitimately made me feel bad seeing him. He was always a joke, eating raw chicken like a retard, basically the DSP of cooking, but, damn man to think he's still doing the youtube thing all these years later, and he looks terrible. Hate to see it.

That bummed me out man. Part of me always wishes the best for people, I like to imagine people get their shit together, that change and growth is possible. Seeing this reminds me that some people are just a lost cause and its a sad truth.

He's had 4 at this point, with that video being after the most recent. His speech is now badly slurred and one of his legs are funny. He also left physical therapy early voluntarily because he hated the food in the care facility, so he might've actually improved if he wasn't such an idiot.

It felt to me like eating protein and lifting a bit made me a bit more active. It even feels like my dick has grown slightly, but idk if that's possible from just lifting weights since I haven't dropepd much weight yet.
>>
>>77386722
Sure, but that's a gross simplification. Any diet can be unhealthy, I found low carb beneficial when I lost the bulk of my weight, I focused on whole foods, lean meats and bulking out the calories with olive oil at a 750cal deficit. Diets of all forms are memed to death, sold by grifters and outright lied about.

okay /fat/ties lay it on me straight. 180cm, 180lbs. picrel is current body after losing 80lbs, but with zero lifting during weight loss (or at any point in my life). can barely lift 50lbs, working a desk job.
i want to look like a normal guy and i know i gotta just begin any lifting (looking at Sean10mm's 5x5 routine), but any specific advice ya'll got for the body i fucked up.
>>
>>77386916
Start a lofting routine, literally any will do at your state but probably center it around compound lifts min 3x a week. Maintain TDEE diet and take measurements of your chest and limbs over time to track progress, weight once a week, don't panic if it goes up slightly. Call me back in 3 months.

You're thinking about it too much. Join a gym and book a couple of sessions with a PT and they'll help to make a routine. Go to the gym consistently and do the routine the PT gave you for 6 months then you come onto /fit/ and complain.
>>
>>77386946
Yeah surgery is the absolute last step if he deems necessary retard, when you plan a trip across country do you start by planning what you're going to eat the afternoon you arrive?
>>
been on my "journey" for about 6 weeks now. About a month eating clean. About 2-3 weeks hitting protein goals. And 2 weeks at the gym doing some starting resistance training. I get about 140,000 steps a week because of my job.

its crazy i just went to rub my chest and it feels a bit firmer. i notice areas on my body feeling firmer. i hadn't noticed before from being a 40% fat slob. i had always been moderately active because my job. but i still became morbidly obese, eating mcdonalds and chips all the time. I realize how often I was eating 5000+ calories a day and hitting almost no protein. Now I am eating clean and getting protein, my body is changing....
>>
>>77386978
Good work anon, keep at it.
>>
>>77386916
just pick a basic full body programm, and go to the gym 3 times a week, also i reccomend using machines first since you will prolly hurt yourself using free weights, just be in a deficit and increase the weight each week on your lifts, since you are a newbie you can gain muscle while losing weight enjoy it

195 lbs now and 23ish percent body fat. I look skinnier than some of my coworkers now and seem normal (in America I guess) even if I still have 30 to lose. When do I stop being mentally fat? And why do people say that maintaining weight is harder than losing? I am kind of addicted to the gym now. While I wont be in a deficit forever and will move to maintance by next year, I will still commit to exercise.
>>
>>77386737
Interesting. I've been keto for about a year and have had stronger and more consistent erections which i attributed to losing a lot of weight, but also cardio/strength training and a good amount of saturated fat
>>
>>77387006
>When do I stop being mentally fat?
when you hit 15% body fat
>>
>>77386916
I have the same height as you an am close to 100 pounds lost. Difference is I lifted a lot on the way down. You dont look bad if its true you never lifted. It will definitely help you out. I have some loose skin but I think a lot of my chest workouts took care of the worst and loose skin takes some time to snap in. Congrats man.
>>
I make my weight loss cool by imagining it is my own anime training arc. Do you guys do the same?
>>
>>77386916
You need surgery for the gyno, though your loose skin isn't terrible compared to some people. Lifting and ab workouts might make a girl be willing to tolerate it. Congrats on the weight loss, but I'm not sugar coating it.
>>
>>77387032
I just think about all the clothes I can wear again and not looking like a lumbering gorilla in videos. There's a video of me at a car show and I looked like a bowling ball with limbs lumbering around and it was depressing.
>>
I'm worried about gyno now, goddamn it. I'm 25% body fat and have a gut to match, so I'm really hoping I'm just a fat fuck with the usual manboobs and not gyno.

Posting myself now. 198 lbs. 178cm. 87 pounds down. Got about a rough 30 lbs to go before supposedly near 15%. I think ill have some gyno but not too bad (by my standards anyway. Ill keep lifting and let time take care of it before freaking. I have seen people irl who had their skin shape up fine and had it worse than me starting out. I am liking how my shoulders are developing. I have hit normal in clothes tier. Dexa scan says my legs are very muscular. Next fat will come from my damn love handles baby. I thank this general for starting my journey. I just ran 3 miles (close to 5k) in 23 minutes and 22 seconds. People are nicer to me and I see girls sometimes staring but who knows.

285 pounds. Though I saw the scale at 295 pounds but I think it was mainly water weight since that didnt last long. Close to 100 pounds in one calendar year. Considering the amount I lost that quick, I think my skin turned out better than I thought. Some gymbros at my workplace drilled into me that I need to lift and they gave me some good plans when I was starting that I think benefited me greatly.

What I learned from candid photos is that they typically look worse than what you see in real life. So be confident.
>>
>>77386916
Brutal.

You have to get skin removal surgery and start on exogenous hormones to fix this situation.
Surgery needs to be something retarded like what Dr. Mike did, just cut a hoop around all your shit and take it all off.

Fuck natural lifting. It would take you years to feel like a human again, not to mention you can't lift during surgery recovery. At this point you got nothing to lose.
>>
i've been ignoring my HIIT because i increased it to 10 minutes. i went back to 5 minutes and did it a bit harder to reach the heart rate border between zones 2 and 3.

i've posted this progress shot before but hoping to get some advice
what do you think i could improve on? should i get leaner? i'm kind of tempted to, after sitting on 2650 calories a day for 2 months and the scales not changing i was thinking of going 2500 to hopefully drop some more fat around my midsection. i dont know how easy this would be to maintain but i do feel that 2650 is a lot of food so maybe 2500 is manageable without being too much or too little food.
also i've been keto and going to try a more normal diet with carbs (gym has been going really well but maybe i can eek out some more energy with carbs, im in 2 minds about this honestly), i've planned out around 100-120g per day. overnight oats and some sweet potato, things like that

does chewing gum work for managing hunger?
same thing with drinking water?
>>
>>77387679
Depends on the person and their reasons for gum, for some gum makes them hungrier, others finds it helps cut down on boredom eating. If you find yourself eating because you're bored then try gum and see if it works for you, if you're eating because you're legitimatly hungry gum probably will only make the problem worse.

Drinking water is generally helpful and you should drink as much as you feel you need. You should also drink a large glass of water before a meal.

imo you don't *need* to get leaner, genuinely where you're at is already excellent. like i know it sounds like crab mentality "no don't lose weight you're perfect how you are!" that you get from people even when you're obese, but you've 100% certainly already made it and have a top-tier attractive physique

I went from 240lbs to 145lbs 9 years ago. Stabilized around 155 and stayed that way until like last two years. Up to 165 now with significantly more fat% due to being a bit lazy the last two summers.

It's not hard, but you have to make lifestyle changes. I bike alot during the summer to burn away the extra food from winter. This year so far has been a major fuckup thanks to dieting which took away all my energy to bike. I would have been better off just eating normally and riding my bike like normal.

Never. Your body no longer expels waste, instead it now produces brown diamonds that must be removed surgically. Have fun on the toilet though. Bear down. What do you guys use to keep track of your weight lifting progress? Is there an app you use during your session or just a pad and pen?
>>
>>77389063
I just use a paper and pen. The glowies don't need to know my max bench, and there is less room for accidentally doomscrolling between sets.
>>
>>77389066
Fair. Since I do multiple workouts with multiple weights, do I list each one or just the heaviest? I'm pretty new to lifting and I've recently been moving up in how much I lift but not keeping track of it.
>>
>>77389067
I just list each set, calculate how much volume that was, and then add it all together at the end.

For example a 225 bench at 10 reps would be 2250 pounds. Lets say I can't keep that up so I go down to 200 pounds. 200 x 10 is 2000. Then I decide to do 185 x 10 which is 1850. Added altogether that means I lifted a total of 6100 pounds. So I will know next time that specifically is the number I will need to beat. Whether I want to beat it by attempting more reps, higher weight, etc.
>>
>>77389072
Cool, I'll try keeping track and see how it goes. So far I've just been lifting what I feel like is the maximum I'm comfortable with (meaning no pain or that I can reach at least 8 reps of) and then going up a little when I feel it's no longer even slightly difficult. So far it's taken me about a month to be able to comfortably handle 22lbs when doing bicep curls, but I did start from literal couch potato status just to put it in perspective.

I'm already keeping at 1400 or less every goddamn day and the weight loss calculators say that's the lowest possible amount I should do. The maintainance calories would be almost 2500.
Are these medical sites retarded or what's going on? I feel like I'm losing my mind here since everything just says to eat less and I realistically can't eat anything less. I even did 900cal on some days since I just wasn't hungry.

If you're genuinely eating 1400 and not miscalculating/ keeping active it will start dropping again. I had a plateau that lasted almost 4 weeks then broke.
If you're very short and sedentary then 1400 is too much intake. If you're not, it will break. Just keep charting faithfully and staying active. If you know you're charting everything honestly then don't worry about checking your weight every week, it's going to drive you crazy.
>>
Does anyone else get overstimulated by the amount of fitness advice out there? If I want to follow everything I would have to quit my job and no other hobbies or responsibilities just to make time for it. Training muscle groups, tendons, isometrics, flexibility and mobility, cardio, breathing. I just want to be healthy and not be skinny fat after reaching my goal weight but of you're not pushing your absolute limits in one area you get shamed for slacking off. Working on my flexibility takes me dedicated days and my morning stretches and stretching on my desk during work doesn't cut it. That's one less day for example I can use for lifting or cardio.
>>
>>77389140
Accurate as possible, I'm even weighing my food to be as accurate as I can. I've even had some days where I missed a meal or two or just had one meal and then a protein shake at another time through the day (with the meal itself being grilled chicken breast with just a touch of salt and pepper with some peas).
I just don't understand how I'm still holding this weight after 3 weeks when I was dropping a decent amount weekly for a while.

>don't worry about checking your weight every week, it's going to drive you crazy.
I'm trying but it's hard. I've been checking almost daily for 3 weeks and my weight is pretty much the same to the very decimal point every time. It's insane.
>>
>>77389140
Also just to give an example, yesterday's entire intake was
>220cal at breakfast (protein drink)
>800cal at lunch (chicken breast and greens)
>220cal at dinner (protein drink again)
>140 ounces of water for the day

I might be a bit delusional here but honestly, HIIT feels almost like a cheat code for how effective it is, although perhaps I'm just ignoring a few things
Just a quick timeline, I weighed 76kg in June 2025 and spent the rest of the year bulking up to 89kg. Once I got into the new year, I began to cut
I weighed myself this morning and was shocked to see I was down to 76kg again. Despite cutting for 6 months, my progress began to slow down a bit to only losing about 2kg a month max after a few months, but my progress actually increased once I began to do a HIIT routine every day for about 10 minutes (as opposed to not doing it or doing it for a much shorter time on days where I'm not working out). Is HIIT actually that insane?
I know there are plenty of studies on it being effective but I'm a bit shocked to see that my weight loss is actually increasing 6 months into a cut with only 10 minutes a day

Because you're a noob and have no endurance, good news though, just like with lifts noob gains in endurance are easy and huge.

The trick is to build up volume slowly, do a cardio session like 3~5 times a week and progress intensity each time. Train in intervals, treat them like you would sets while lifting, go hard for 30 seconds (Z3/4), then walking rest for 90 seconds (Z1/2), repeat for 10 cycles, after a few weeks start shifting those intervals,
week 1 hard 30s / rest 90s, x10
week 2 hard 45s / rest 90s, x10
week 3 hard 60s / rest 90s, x10
week 4 hard 90s / rest 90s, x10
week 5 hard 90s / rest 75s, x10
week 6 hard 90s / rest 60s, x10
week 7 hard 90s / rest 45s, x10
week 8 hard 90s / rest 30s, x10
at this point you start increasing volume
week 9 hard 90s / rest 30s, x11
week 11 hard 90s / rest 30s, x12
week 12 hard 90s / rest 30s, x13
week 13 hard 90s / rest 30s, x14
week 14 hard 90s / rest 30s, x15
week 15 hard 90s / rest 30s, x16
week 16 hard 90s / rest 30s, x17
week 17 hard 90s / rest 30s, x18
week 18 hard 90s / rest 30s, x19
week 19 hard 90s / rest 30s, x20
Now you cut the volume in half but also the rest intervals
week 20 hard 90s x10 (aka hard 900s) (aka hard 15 minutes)
week 21 hard 90s x11 ect

Stupid question, I have been lifting for the past 2 weeks and only eaten like 1500 calories, but not really lost any weight yet my body feels firmer and less "fat", strenght in the gym has improved a little, should I just stay on the 1500 for a few more weeks ?

Because no way muscle memorie/newbie gains are that insane right...

nta but how do i know if the cut is too agressive? i dont count my calories but yesterday i ate around 2k cals and my maintenance is 3k. is that too much? i haven't lost a single gram yesterday, i had the same weight this morning as yesterday morning. is it time for a refeed day?
>>
>>77389433
It's not perfect, but when I'm feeling a bit hungry but there's time until I eat, I just drink water or even those diluted fruit squash drinks (practically no calories). Sometimes even a cup of tea. Just to have the taste of something in my mouth.
>staring at the screen?
Obviously I don't know much about you but it sounds like you're doing a total lifestyle change if you're going this far? What were/are your hobbies? Picking up something new can be a good way of taking your mind off the time, whether it be travelling (doesn't have to be abroad, can just be a nearby town/city), reading, studying, etc
>>
>>77389451
You calculate your TDEE and then reduce by 500 or even just 300 calories if 500 is too much. Don't go below that or your body will eventually force you to binge.
>estimating calories instead of counting them
brother, i need you to lock the fuck in and not listen to the keto schizo
>>
>>77389454
im too fat, broke and mentally low to travel, i was planning on going to our house by the seaside in september when the heat weakens, but i have to lose some significant weight until then cause its a very long bus trip ( 7 hours) and i have to be in shape for that
i have hobbies, i play some multiplayer vidya but my main hobby is music, but at the moment i have no will at all to make music, i pick up the guitar and im over it in 1 minute. could be a case of doomscrolling induced ADHD. i dont have instagram or tiktok but i do doomscroll on youtube and here
>>
>>77389460
i dont listen to the keto schizo, bro, i dont even do keto
i just cant be arsed to count calories, i just eat less, much less. figured im so fucking fat that my tdee is so high that if i just eat a normal human portions without binging or eating every 30 minutes i should be in good shape

After a 3 week plateau at 99.9 kg, i finally got over it, scale reached 98.75 yesterday morning. Started the year at 113 so im closing in on 15 kgs lost this year. Goodbye 100+kg bodyweight, we shall never meet again.
If i want to get /lean/, i still have to lose almost double that so i still have a long road ahead but the difference in how i loo, feel and what clothes i can wear is immense. Its not 'bitches be mirin' territory yet but i've come a long way.

I have been fasting six days a week, every week, drinking only water and only eating on Sundays since Lent started in February. I weighed 208 this morning and I expect to be at 218 by tonight. I've lost 112 lbs and have 48 more pounds to go for my goal weight of 160. Eight pounds away from 200. It's so close, I can taste it.

I made a thread on /ck/ about what I'm cooking and eating today.

I was thinking I'm definitely NOT going to gorge like a pig that day; probably just one bowl of soup. I'll either cut down to one meal a day, eat every other day, eat just enough everyday (1800~2200 calories) or eat only when I'm actually hungry: stomach rumbling, hunched over, hand on my belly hunger. But all healthy food. I've been trying to do on my eat days.

No, but I think that's in part to how and what I'm eating. So I break my fast with mostly liquids to start, then semi-solid foods, and then I eat solid foods. I also take hours to finish my food, slowly chewing multiple times before I swallow tiny bites of food. Once I feel full(almost immediately), I stop eating, then start eating only when my stomach doesn't hurt, feels lighter, or an hour or two have passed. I also home cook almost all of my meals, except for frozen foods which I just toss into the oven or things I can't practically make. For example, I haven't had any sort of fast food for about two months or any dine-in restaurant food for about four. I don't eat any foods with modified corn starch, high fructose corn syrup, bioengineered ingredients, or that were packaged, handled, or sourced from other countries, except for the European ones(excluding Italy, fuck you spaghetti niggers, you know what you did), non-chinese/indian asian, or South America(they seem alright). I try to eat a good mix of veggies, dairy, and meat Sundays.

>The obese and control subjects required comparable caloric intakes: 1432 +/- 32 kcal/m2/d vs 1341 +/- 33 kcal/m2/d, respectively. Following weight loss, the reduced-obese subjects required only 1021 +/- 32 kcal/m2/d, a 28% decrease (P less than 0.001) in requirements relative to their obese state and a 24% decrease relative to the control patients (P less than 0.001)
>The mean individual energy requirement of the reduced-obese subjects (2171 kcal/d) was less than that for the control subjects (2280 kcal/d) despite the fact that they still weighed 60% more than the controls. In order to maintain a reduced weight, some reduced-obese or even partially reduced patients must restrict their food intake to approximately 25% less than that anticipated on the basis of metabolic body size.
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/6694559/

>Conclusions
>One year after initial weight reduction, levels of the circulating mediators of appetite that encourage weight regain after diet-induced weight loss do not revert to the levels recorded before weight loss. Long-term strategies to counteract this change may be needed to prevent obesity relapse.
>Results
>Weight loss (mean [±SE], 13.5±0.5 kg) led to significant reductions in levels of leptin, peptide YY, cholecystokinin, insulin (P<0.001 for all comparisons), and amylin (P=0.002) and to increases in levels of ghrelin (P<0.001), gastric inhibitory polypeptide (P=0.004), and pancreatic polypeptide (P=0.008). There was also a significant increase in subjective appetite (P<0.001). One year after the initial weight loss, there were still significant differences from baseline in the mean levels of leptin (P<0.001), peptide YY (P<0.001), cholecystokinin (P=0.04), insulin (P=0.01), ghrelin (P<0.001), gastric inhibitory polypeptide (P<0.001), and pancreatic polypeptide (P=0.002), as well as hunger (P<0.001).

Two weeks ago was really awful, I had three binges, so I realized that my deficit must have been way too high and it was. My maintenance is 2500 cals daily and I was eating like 1500 for several months. So I adjusted to eating 2000 cals daily for the last week and it worked pretty fine until right now when I couldn't hold back and ate an entir croissant and some nuts. Not binge territory but I should have held back. Bros, I'm still 50lbs away from my goal weight and 20lbs away from being a normal BMI of 22, I need to lock in.

Do you live in an apartment complex with an elevator? You could pay a guy to help bring it to your room. You can also open the box and bring the stuff up in increments. If it really is 48kg then realistically nobody will be able to just run away with it unless they have a trolley like the delivery guy. Since it's over 25kg it's also not unlikely they have two guys delivering it and bringing it directly to your doorstep.
>>
I remember ordering two adjustable 55lb dumbbells that came in separate boxes but the amazon delivery driver was this little old lady who had to hobble them across the yard

you can leave the dyel (by weight) zone with them but you will not look like you lift to the untrained (read: woman) eye.
other men will notice that you're not totally skinny.
you might reach otter mode if you have low enough fat%.
i can do 25kg OHP per arm but cannot do more than ~8 reps of front and side raises with 10kg dumbbells. a rep or two cheating with 12.5kg. nothing strict.
if you focus on each muscle in isolation, you'll get a pretty good mileage out of them.
you can do split squats for lower body. lean forward for glutes and back straight for quads.
triceps extensions preferably on a bench but on the ground also work. 15kg per arm is nothing to scoff at. i can do 20kg with both arms holding the same dumbbell.
if you use a resistance band with the dumbbells at the same time for chest, i bet you'll get a pretty good challenge out of them. careful not to hurt yourself. i don't do chest because it's gay.
