>Who is /fat/ for?
For adipose atlases who are working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros), LoseIt (great for both), or Waistline (FOSS).

>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. No lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

My solution to this was to move some eating to late at night so then you get to spend the whole day excited for it

because dry brown rice has about 360 calories per 100g and a cup has about 200g, so 700 calories per cup of uncooked rice is right.

I this the reason why burgers can not lose weight? because of their retard cup system ?

Honestly, ever since I started shedding weight, I had the problem where I would buy too much of a portion and struggle to finish it at all compared to before, despite the fact my diet didn't change, just the calorie restriction did, I advise you to try to move less and eat less to make your stomach smaller, because atp I'm around 90kg but eating over 2000kcal sometimes feels genuinely hard now which I love

I'm trying out fasting for the first time this weekend. I definitely feel pretty hungry and low energy, but it's bearable by keeping myself occupied and drinking diet soda and tea. I've mostly been playing video games and have done some walking, but no intense exercise. I've been fasting since Saturday morning, but might break the fast early tonight if I can't sleep due to hunger. I'll be back to normal eating tomorrow at work.

I want to say eating better and less is piss easy, but I've been getting a lot more social as of late: going out to eat with friends.
It has absolutely wrecked my discipline. I ate like 9 or 10 stale tortilla chips and some little chunks of cooked chicken, then a piece of taffy. The screaming in my head finally stopped, but I felt nothing by disappointment 5 minutes later.

Before I started exercising like 2 months ago, I'd say about 1500-1800 calories, maybe lower. I'm not that a very precise number cruncher, I just make sure I never get close to 2000cal per day. Nowadays, maybe around 1800cal.

simply calculate your TDEE (it will be high since you’re fat) and then aim to eat 500-1000 calories less than that
for me what worked was
>black coffee maxx in the morning to skip breakfast
>small snack at lunch
>then most of my calories for dinner so I don’t go to sleep hungry
it will be hard at first but your body will adjust, and you will see the scale go down quick which will motivate you more. plus everything other anon said. Reta and ozempic just make the “not eating” part easier but if you have even a basic sense of discipline and drive you can do it

losing 1kg a week is insanely hard and often near dangerous levels, id suggest 1800 to start off if you're completely new to all this and then week by week taper it down by 50/100 until you hit 1500

1500 is going to be miserable but just remember what you're working towards. we have the same height, i started at 90kg and gradually worked my way to 69kg at about 1.7kg a week (i was doing extreme cardio and 1400 a day). hope you're ready to buy new clothes, underwear, literally everything.

it's worth it.

>>
I'm 99kg trying to hit atleast 70kg or 60kg if possible (5'10). I've already lost like 2.7kgs over the last 3 weeks

It's kind of frustrating how many calories there are in a protein shake and if I wanna keep my gains or even grow em I essentially have to have a lunch of a protein shake and nothing else.
Anyone else have any experience with this?
>>
>>77391052
if you're at an insane starting weight, losing more than 1kg a week is the norm, especially when you're transitioning to a cleaner diet of less carbs/salt yeah, just don't expect that same rate of progress as you start entering the overweight category
>>
>>77391053
protein shakes are on average 160, you can them for as low as 130. they're some of the least calorie intense items unless you're mixing them with some other crazy stuff. your goal means about 90g of protein shake is about enough, that's 500 calories max bro...

609 kcal, 100g of protein a day, not counting other sources.
I'm keeping my intake to 1700ish every day
So it is basically 1/3rd of my total intake.

That's...fine right?
>>
And another thing
Should I rely on what my fitbit tells me I Burned in a workout? Like I'm not burning 400kcal in a gym sesh, right?
>>
>>77391072
yeah it's fine, I don't know why you're acting like a single protein shake or three is going to rape your calories, it's only a 1/3rd at best...

you can substitute it with steak or chicken thighs if you hate the shake that much but it's one of the most efficient ways of just getting things done, you don't have to follow a strict regiment even with your protein goals, the idea is for weight loss to be sustainable so that when you slip up once a while you won't act like >>77391066

>>77391075
no, on any weight loss journey you should never be counting physical activities into your calorie limit unless it's a 10k step walk, in which you can take the extra 4k and convert it to calories for a extra serving of chips (it's also wildly inaccurate but the real reason is because niggas will walk 20k then say they can pig out and accidentally binge a extra 1k calories)
>>
>>77391080
Alright, thank you. You are very helpful and kind
>>
>>77391094
np, don't go too hard on yourself, it's a marathon at the end of the day. I forgot to answer, yes, 1/3rd of your calories being solely protein is extremely normal (if you're super gym oriented, it'd be closer to 3/4th), unironically if you eat natural whole foods, a healthy diet will hit around that mark anyway. only focus on protein goals if you're actually working out though, what you're doing (hopefully) is body recomping so keep at it.

if you find it too hard, just ignore the protein goal and purely focus on losing weight (you'll have a more prominent skinnyfat physique this way) but it's recoverable so it's not a big deal, find what works best for you

I've developed a minor eating disorder due to being extremely restrictive on my weight loss diet, I cannot eat chicken thighs or breast without gagging a little from obsessively eating them

Yes! Another 30 weeks of training to failure and eating at a deficit. I may not lose a lot of weight overall, but I hope I am able to fit into my older pants atleast. My knees started screaming at me during a 120kg squat and I realised I have to make a change before it's too late.
>>
>>77391113
1.32 - 2.42 g protein / kg of IDEAL BODY WEIGHT (if your goal is 70kg, then calculate based on that)

1.3 - 1.8 g protein / kg = most normal people on weight loss doing some minor to medium exercises (2-3 a week)

2.4 g protein / kg = 5 days a week gymbro tier (please dont do this on a weight loss marathon though lmao)

>>77391126
one of the hallmarks of "it's working" for body recomp is if you can keep doing reps of the same weight while losing weight (it's proof you're losing more fat than muscle). make sure to measure your waist or your belt notches regularly, nothing feels better than outgrowing a belt :) you got this

up your protein (while also not increasing your calories) and that can help offset muscle loss when doing a moderately aggressive deficit. it'll help keep your body from eating away muscles when losing weight and just have it mostly eat the fat.

I tracked the first couple of weeks to get a good idea of how many calories I was taking in, as well as made adjustments where needed, but now that I've measured all the stuff I regularly eat I can make a good guesstimate of how much calories I'm taking in without needing to be autistic about it.
Only time it ever really gets dicey is when I'm eating out with people at places where the menu doesn't give calorie counts, but I'll usually skip meals or eat less to compensate for those days.

Posting to see if someone is or has been in the same situation. Been with the gf for a while now. At some point I lost a lot of weight (went from 100-ish kg to 80). I don't care about my own weight because I was happy back then and I'm happy right now, it's just that I felt I was out of shape and wanted to swim and the weight loss came naturally. Gf has slowly but surely been gaining weight. She does female youtuber routines which look like shit. Refuses to pick up more than 4 kg because she "doesn't want to look like a female version of the hulk". Went for a 15 km hike last week and she was out of breath from the 5th meter. We've talked about her situation a few times, she then tries a new routine for 2 weeks, notices no instant weight loss and goes back to mess around doing nothing.
Has anyone been in the same situation with their SO? It's pretty sad that I complain about this kind of stuff but she has the body of a 30 year old mom without the benefits of...you know, having kids. Any insight would be appreciated

I hate that spontaneously eating an apple makes me feel guilty now because I went over my caloric budget. "Damn that Apple was 330kcals, now I'm at 1853 for a day, I'm such a worthless fatty."

I hate how everything has a caloric cost I have to keep track of now. It takes something I never thought about before and turns it into this mental weight I'd rather not have on me.
Every time I sit down to eat now I'm running the numbers in the background. It used to just be "what do I feel like eating today" and maybe "how much does it cost, am I getting a good deal?" that informed what I ate, but now in addition to those its also have "how does this fit into my calorie budget" and "how many carbs does this put me at?" and "what's my daily protein at, have I had 130g yet?" and "How many grams of saturated fat is in this?" and "shit I can't have this, it would put me over my sodium for the day"

It just makes eating mentally fucking exhausting, its too much to keep track of, like I'm taking an exam or seeing if my soul is pure enough to pass through the fatty filter. I can see why people just eating nothing but chicken and broccoli, it bypasses that mental load by just eating the same thing forever, must really simplify things to eat like a robot. :Beep Boop: 130g of protein, chicken breast, boneless skinnless, flavorless, boiled, broccoli, boiled, perfect monotonous slop, perfect macros, can't wait until tomorrow when I can eat it again, for a monthly treat I might shake things up by having turkey and cauliflower :Beep Boop:

This shit is soul crushing.

People act like its all personal choices and individual responsibility or whatever, and that the food isn't the problem, that WE are and WE just need to be BETTER and the innocent food companies aren't to blame its us for being reprehensible fatties, its all on us for being lazier and more gluttonous than any generation before us, but I swear once you're off the slop you quickly realize processed slop, the shit they advertise to you constantly from the second you're born, all your favorite brands you've had since childhood, all of which are owned by like the same handful of food industry mega corps, all of it makes you want to eat more slop and they designed it to be as unsatisfying and hunger inducing as possible and when you quit the slop for just a few months you start feeling full on less food, and your energy levels improve so you weren't actually lazy, the slop made you that way, and you're not craving ridiculous portions anymore so you're not a gluttonous pig, the slop made you that way, its almost like it wasn't our fault at all, its almost like all this shit was engineered to do this shit to us. And the food mega corps are entirely to blame for the obesity epidemic.

At least it feels that way once you're off the slop.
>>
>>77391847
>The curious part is that I look leaner than last week.

Yeah i have noticed this too, honestly have no idea if the water gathers to your muscles similarly to creatine or not.
In my experience its not the sodium in its self but if you suddenly eat way more than you're used to, like with carbs etc
>>
>>77391843
When you start to actually measure your food you quickly realized the servings they put on the packaging is often very deceptively optimistic. It'll say 75kcals for a serving, then they define a serving as one 150g apple so you just assume that's like the average, but when you actually weigh them yourself they're often 400~500g or more.
>>
i have been dieting for two months and lost around 7 kgs, i am eating healthy and getting the protein i need while hiking/ walking as much as possible but i feel like shit all the fucking time ...

Sparkling water+not eating before a certain time of the day, but frankly I can easily be satiated with under 2000kcal nowadays so this is mostly not a problem surprisingly, if you want to not eat then try to do an activity(doesn't have to be physical) which requires a lot of focus and thinking

Having a hard time deciding between 2 different gyms to join
>both same distance
>both open 24 hours
>both same price
>1 is a huge corporate chain, has great range of equipment for isolation workouts like curl machines etc
>other is smaller chain, focuses more on having free weights and plates
I think as a newbie without having an instructor id benefit more from using machines for isolation where I cant fuck up the form right?
>>
>>77393648
True, that's the benefit of machines. Hard to fuck up. Not to say you can't, I fucked up my adductor on the hack squat machine and had to take a break from leg movements for a few months. And then there are the dudes that snap their bicep going too hard on preacher curl machines.
Whereas free weight workouts are going to hit your stabilizing muscles as well which is better for more practical every day use strength gains. They just take a little bit more finagling to get used to when it comes to bailing out of a failed rep or not being wobbly on the eccentric movement.

Imo I recommend smaller gyms. In my experience they're a more social place full of supportive types who will help out or shoot the shit.
Chain gyms like planet fitness I equate to like a walmart. They're usually packed with older folk and not much of a community vibe to it. But if you want to just get in, do your thing, and get out, can't go wrong with either or.

ye machnies are goated man, here is what I do and I have pretty decent results I think, just do progressive overload and you will be fine with machines, the myth that you need to do free weights to grow is retarded

>>
>>77393740
why do some say 8-12 rep and this says 8 rep max and go up in weight?
>>
>>77393789
8 reps per set is enough to cause stimulation, if you wanna min-max you go for 12 reps before you progress. also not every lift day is the same, some days you get failure at 8 some days at 10 or 12 you dont always have the exact same performance due to many variables.
>>
>>77393470
Your body adapts to whatever you are used to. Taking away carbs when you are accustomed to carbs can have that effect. If you did it as a routine and only had high carbs once a week or something then your body would function optimally that way.
>>
why am I oscillating between looking fat and not looking fat if my weight is the same? wtf I don't get it, my mantits and belly come and go depending on the hour of the day

>>77393789
Just my personal preference since 4-8 reps seems to work best for building strenght and muscle, for me at least

good to know, it always feels kind of fast/easy to get to 8 reps but going from 8 to 12 takes so much

That's the thing, your body don't got nothing in reserve. You need to eat a steady amount of carbs in every meal to not die as I found out yesterday.

>>77393118
Thanks anon, hopefully people read it and took it as a warning that you can't exercise without carbs.

maybe obvious advice but make sure you're trying to pull your shoulders back together to get your back more involved in the movement. can't explain it too well because i'm terrible at pull ups myself, but it feels different and distinctly easier than if you're trying to brute force pull yourself up entirely by your biceps

i was thinking of just swapping to exclusively machine workouts anyway cause i hate how doing compound lifts leaves some muscles weak for other workouts, i do full body split 3 times a week, no matter what order i do workouts one will suffer in performance because a compound move like pull ups or dips fatigued me

im always self conscious about bringing my tablet to the gym to read manga or watch anime while doing cardio due to growing up in an era where you got bullied for liking that stuff but then yesterday some dude was loudly discussing sword art online with his friend on the phone while on the machines
guess i should stop overthinking it

That's pretty normal. You could drink your coffee first, then try to poop once it works its magic. As long it's a standard amount each day, you've still got repeatability. If you're so anal you feel you need your actual fasted morning weight, just subtract the weight of the coffee/water. Hell, if you always have the same breakfast each morning, same applies to that.

I mean even when you poop you didn't completely clear your digestive system, and that and your fluid retention varies day-to-day anyway. This is why trends matter more, you'll go crazy looking too much into daily numbers. I'd just do a 7-day running average and call it a day.

try reducing your insoluble fiber intake. cut down on veggies especially uncooked ones.

i've personally found eating a sandwich or small breakfast (1 egg omelette for example) and work lunch works best. I still have the energy to work and exercise after work, but im sort of spent in the evening, though i've been walking 20km~ and using outdoor gym so im pretty much occupied from work till bed time anyways so dont have really cravings. just got to keep hydrated, been thinking about using packback for carrying water with me

Being short shits down your BMR so fucking much; losing more than a pound a week from diet just dumps you into stupid lowcal territory.
I don’t wanna try 1200cal days again. It was miserable
>>
>>77394413
There are all sorts of tips I'm sure you've seen, but just getting used to being hungry sometimes and reframing the feeling mentally as a normal thing is best long-term. At the beginning of a diet it's harsh though, you'll have much more extreme hunger until your body gets readjusted. Drinking plenty of fluid, volume eating vegetables, high protein diet, being lightly to moderately active, keeping your mind occupied with other things (or sleeping), I think works for pretty much everybody (as do drugs like caffeine or nicotene, though I wouldn't do them, or glp-1s). Otherwise, the particulars of what kind of meal scheduling or foods you find more satisfying or other diet tricks are very individualized, as long as you're meeting your deficit (hopefully not too extreme) and protein goals, try different stuff out that sounds like it will work for you.

Alright, I haven’t checked in for a while so I figured I’d just say I’m not dead and I’m still losing weight. December 2024 I was at 411 pounds and as of today I’m at 259.3, again, I don’t do any fancy diet shit, my weight loss is PURE cico. All I do is cap myself to 1500 calories a day, yes I know this is far below the projectedTDEE but I don’t care, I don’t want to overestimate, also 1500 is plenty. I’ve had a couple of plateaus but those were unironically caused by me getting constipated, turned out I was taking too much fiber and it screwed me up.

I saw some people complaining about serving sizes and I agree they’re really fucking confusing so I typically try to only eat foods with clearly defined portions like a lavash is 100 calories per ONE piece of flatbread. I got some pitas the other day because the package said 90 calories but then I checked closer and it’s actually 180 per pita, the serving is half a pita…who the fuck only eats half a pita? Prepackaged meals are a godsend for lazy fat niggers like me, I hate having to hunch over the kitchen scale and weigh shit out. Obviously if you have the time to make carefully balanced homemade meals you absolutely should, but I work 12 hours a day so lean cuisines are perfectly fine thank you very much.

Anyways, my current plan here is to just stay the course, once I hit 200 pounds I’ll actually start going to the gym and lifting. The only reason I haven’t up this point is I’m not trying to turn into an ogre. Have some willpower and stick with it, there’s nothing better than the moment when you realize you can buy normal people clothes again instead of having to buy shit from places like DXL and king size.
>>
Just tried going gym late in the evening, gotta say, idk if its the change in routine or the fact that i had a few meals during the day allowing me to load up on carbs, but i had the sickest pump ive ever had. holy fuck.
>>
I've been doing 1500 cals a week for a while and while there are definitely some results it's not going as fast as I want thanks to the caloric bombs which get dropped on me from my uncaring mom about weekly.
Do you think I should go as low as 1000 or is that too much and unsustainable?
>>
>>77394502
Took me about a week, maybe two before it got at all tolerable, now how bad it is mostly depends on how severe my deficit is and what food choices I'm making (lot easier with 1-2 meals of volumous whole foods than a bunch of snacking or eating junk, even with same daily calories). I'm sure it's different depending on the person, where they're coming from, and what they've changed to doing. I'm AuDHD/OCD and have pretty severe food noise and binge urges and shit, so a lot of it is actually mental for me. I'll occasionally fall off the wagon while maintaining, gain relatively quickly until I'm pushing mid-overweight range, and have to lose the same 20-30 lbs back again.

I chew gum, it helps dramatically for me because I eat out of boredom not actual hunger. Just having something in my mouth and activating my facial muscles keeps me from feeling hunger.
