>Who is /fat/ for?
For hedgeheg huggers who are working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros), LoseIt (great for both), or Waistline (FOSS).
6. Check your Vitamin D

>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. No lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

Mom bought pizza and kept knocking on my door to go eat it, I just ignored and went back to sleep. Why are women always trying to fatten us?

>>77429199
are you kfc brah? she has a serious problem. try asking her if she can get healthier food maybe? if she loves fast food slop, panda express at least has chicken teriyaki and steam vegetables
>>
>>77429236
hello crab, no trying to cram goyslop down your child's throat after they told you they want to eat healthier/not be obese anymore is not love. it's sabotage, and a very unhealthy dynamic. my dad did the same shit with me when i lived with him, which is part of why i was never able to lose weight until i moved out
>>
>>77429236
If she loved me she would just buy healthy foods instead of gorging on fast food almost every weekend, if I had a kid I would never order or offer him pizza knowing he’s on a diet is even worse.
>>77429237
Not kfcbrah, there’s no pandaexpress here, most normies just do pizza because it’s the cheapest where I live.

How much of a meme is ozempic really? My biggest problem is impulse eating that fucks over both my exercise and my fasting, and it seems like ozempic's meant to specifically to target your appetite. Would it be a good idea to take it for a few months to try and get the ball rolling on better eating habits, or am I likely to just start overeating again as soon as I come off it?
It's not like i'm consuming 4000 cals of slop daily or anything and i'm not overly obese; my impulse eating usually just leads to me getting like 2500 a day instead of the 1500-2000 i'm aiming for, and it adds up over time. So i'm thinking if this can nudge me towards maintaining the 1500-2000 target it could be worth it.

Back in mid to late May (I think) I asked here if I could make it under 200lbs before September. I was around 250lbs back then and some anon replied to me that I couldn't.
Well whoever it was, screw you. I'm 9lbs from getting to 199lbs and have 5 weeks to do it.
I'm going to make it and so is everyone in here trying to lose weight.
>>
>>77429303
Ozempic will probably work (as long as you take only a little) but desu you could try shoving a shit ton of protein into your big meals.
>>
>>77429347
Yeah i'm starting on a 1.5mg pill, no injections, nothing too crazy
>>
>>77429353
There's no reason to take the pill over injections, it's literally just wasting the drug since less of it gets absorbed.

try Vitamin D supplementation first. test your current levels and take high doses. well above the recommended. then test again a month later.
i used to eat 3000-4000 calories to be satisfied with food. not even 2000 calories were enough for me.
doing 1500 calories per day was torture and i thought about food all the time.
ffw a couple of months after Vitamin D supplementation, i'm easily on less than 1500 calories per day with shitty macros. less than 45g protein and 166g carbs for the past month.
no hunger at all. i feel too full if i do 1600 calories.
>>
>>77429303
ozempic works, but fasting and keto are basically the same cheat code and enables the same mechanisms. there aren’t a lot of side effects and dangers of ozempic, and if course it’s more dangerous being a fatty, but fasting and keto is pretty much not dangerous as long as you don’t go longer than 72 hour fasts and drink your electrolytes
>>
>>77429449
>test your current levels and take high doses. well above the recommended.
I'm sorry anon but I'll have to call you a retard, absolutely don't do that and talk to your doctor if you think you might have vitamin D deficiency
Vitamin D overdose is a thing and one of the first symptom is indeed the loss of appetite
I'll let you google vitamin D toxicity for the full list of effects
>>
>>77429465
Nta but you can take 5000IU/day safely without batting an eye. And you can easily take 10-20kIU/day if you just supplement a little bit of Vitamin K2
>>
>>77429465
>vitamin D overdose
god what a fucking jeet.
vitamin D doesn't do anything, it's the calcium that is the issue.
You need vitamin K to redirect calcium to bones.
you need magnesium to regulate potassium and offset excess calcium via both of them.
magnesium is also necessary to metabolize vitamin D which stops the calcium issue from the start.

fucking kill yourself.
>>
>>77429465
i don't have the other symptoms
>>
>>77429504
don't worry anon, it's easy to fix
>>
>>77429465
>This regression line revealed that 600 IU of vitamin D per day achieves that 97.5% of individuals will have serum 25(OH)D values above 26.8 nmol/L rather than above 50 nmol/L which is currently assumed. It also estimated that 8895 IU of vitamin D per day may be needed to accomplish that 97.5% of individuals achieve serum 25(OH)D values of 50 nmol/L or more. As this dose is far beyond the range of studied doses, caution is warranted when interpreting this estimate. Regardless, the very high estimate illustrates that the dose is well in excess of the current RDA of 600 IU per day and the tolerable upper intake of 4000 IU per day [1].

Can't go wrong with some light cardio, even if it's just hitting your daily steps.

You don't really burn that much calories during the resistance training thay you'd need to reduce your intake, especially if you burn that off with two-three miles of walking.

>>77429735
The old physique comparisons will never be updated. If you want a new physique comparison post your body first.

i also know it might happen when you pull with your forearms instead of your lats.
you need to look up other ways it happens to people and fogure out how it happened to you to avoid it in the future.
you also need to look up if there is a way to train around it. training around injuries saves a ton of time.

Been fasting since June started and it's slowing down lately but hopefully 5,5kg is achievable in 5 weeks. I am trying to do calisthenics while still being pretty fat, but the two exercises which I really can't do even a rep for are pullups and dips, having to resort to the much more humiliating inverted rows and dips. So I'm pretty much at my maintenance if I'm fluctuating ~2kg over 4 months or so? My lifts have improved in this time so i assume so. I might be recomping slightly as well.
I'm finding energy a bit on the lacking side so im considering going up to 2750 calories.
>>
>>77431047
yes. and if your lifts are going up you are gaining muscle. you could also start tracking something more impactful like waist measurement if you're trying to track body composition (weight is a mixed bag that fluctuates up and down, feel like way too much emphasis is put on it unless you're morbidly obese)
>>
Wagmi, bros

Started at 229 late june. Heavy calorie and carb restriction with a healthy dose of move the fuck around more. Original plan was under 200 by october and under 180 by end of the year but i'm ahead of schedule right now. Should start leveling off soon, but i'm being good about my protein intake and really doing well about my activity despite the massive fucking cut i'm on (about 1100-1200 calories per day average)
>>
>>77431074
Good job anon!
>>
>>77431047
If energy is actually lacking like you don't feel tired, but when you go to do something suddenly you feel like you're running on fumes then you need to shift some of your calories to carbs. If you just feel tired and unmotivated then that's probably hormonal issues.
>>
anyone have suggestions for low calorie bread? All the ones ive tried are tough and feel like chewing apart paper. I enjoy tuna sandwiches but am struggling with the bread part
>>
>>77431096
Can keto cause hormonal issues? I've read the opposite. I'm on very minimal carbs, I introduced MCT oil in my pre workout and it did help quite a bit but ultimately I'm thinking I am over training. My sleep is weird, I get max 5 hours per night, sometimes 6, but I don't feel tired when I wake up. In fact I feel fine and cannot get back to sleep.
Energy throughout the day is fine, very linear and I don't really see issues there. It's more around my workouts, particularly near the end of sets. I haven't regressed, but pushing plateaus is getting harder and I gas myself out sooner.
>>
>>77431108

Not traditional bread, but I like the mission brand zero or low carb (they have one of each, low carb tastes way better and is only like 2 or 4 carbs net so who cares) tortillas. You can do pretty much anything you could with bread with a tortilla, you just call it a quesadilla / wrap / whatever

Make chicken pizzas with them with either buffalo or zero sugar BBQ sauce, that's my go-to easy lunch with near zero prep time. Shred a rotisserie chicken early in the week.

Two tortillas, sauce, shredded cheese, protein, jalapeños. I preheat the oven to 500 as I make them and throw them in on the way to 500. They're normally done in 3-4 minutes. Phenomenally easy and fast, surprisingly filling, 5-600 calories depending on how much cheese you load up, essentially zero carbs.

What kind of shit do you eat? I need to wear off the slop but idk what to make. Last time I tried to eat healthy it was so bad

My main to go dinner is wok. Pretty much marinade chicken, make a wok sauce, fry vegetables, fry chicken and then add the sauce. I use frozen vegetables and I set the chicken to marinade the day before. The frozen vegetables are keto friendly and have both low calories and carbohydrates so they don't break the fast, but they're verry filling. Think broccoli and cauliflower.
The marinade I make is made of vinegar, sunflower oil, pepper, wok sauce (oyster sauce or teriyaki sauce), and usually a little bit of garlic and sesame oil. Pretty much the same for wok sauce but only add some broth, and msg.
It's pretty fast to make as well, which definitely helps a lot.

frozen vegetables are one of the best cheats for a poor fag. otherwise cooking in bulk and freezing portions afterwards is another poorfag cheat. Chili con carne and beef stroganov are perfect for freezing and making in bulk, and is pretty affordable when you make it from scractch in bulk

>>77431466
for glutes pretty much squats. you can do lunges or split squats as well I guess
for abs hanging leg raises and ab wheel are mostly my go to, and side raises on extension bench for obliques. suitcase walks are also good for this

? This is something you have to learn to gauge based on your own experience. How do you currently look and feel? What kinds of activities or things do you want out of your physique? I'd say a good weight at 6'3" is 200-220 at 15%. That's roughly half of the fat you have now. So you'd need to lose 30lbs while maintaining lean mass. Even if it's not 100% accurate you will still have a baseline to compare against.
>>
>>77430174

it's all about the hormones. whether basedience realizes the root cause or not. i also have lifelong thin friends that can never eat over the small portions they order even if it is goyslop. they WANT to get fatter but physically cannot eat more.
here is a study that shows hunger and satiety hormones staying fucked up one year after the weight loss.
>Conclusions
>One year after initial weight reduction, levels of the circulating mediators of appetite that encourage weight regain after diet-induced weight loss do not revert to the levels recorded before weight loss. Long-term strategies to counteract this change may be needed to prevent obesity relapse.
>Results
>Weight loss (mean [±SE], 13.5±0.5 kg) led to significant reductions in levels of leptin, peptide YY, cholecystokinin, insulin (P<0.001 for all comparisons), and amylin (P=0.002) and to increases in levels of ghrelin (P<0.001), gastric inhibitory polypeptide (P=0.004), and pancreatic polypeptide (P=0.008). There was also a significant increase in subjective appetite (P<0.001). One year after the initial weight loss, there were still significant differences from baseline in the mean levels of leptin (P<0.001), peptide YY (P<0.001), cholecystokinin (P=0.04), insulin (P=0.01), ghrelin (P<0.001), gastric inhibitory polypeptide (P<0.001), and pancreatic polypeptide (P=0.002), as well as hunger (P<0.001).

Meh, I think I’m over the whole “fat loss is the only way I’ll ever be good enough” business. Lowk love my body for the first time ever. Kinda just wanna have good life and not hurt while doing things I love. >Like enjoying picrel with everyone after I made.
Also, PMOS + endo complicates fat loss significantly. Ineligible for GLP-1 as I’ve preexisting GI dysmotility. Total hysterectomy on the 21st of this month, maybe it helps; but if it doesn’t I’m already going to be over the moon about the lack of symptoms from uterus.

that's definitely something i need more of. it's so hard to get more.... i fought for my life just to hit 30, even though we need like 38 or more? do those net zero carb wraps count as fiber? it seems like the easiest way to get fiber, but i'm not sure if it's the type of fiber we're supposed to eat.

for me, fiber only fills me without any satiation. i can eat a literal very large bowl of salad (the one you scoop out of to smaller bowls) and still be extremely hungry.
experiment with what works for you.
as for protein, there are many conflicting studies about it so i can't say for sure how much is really needed to build muscle. one thing that is hard to measure is experienced vs noobie lifters. one can be lifting for years yet he just fucks around at the gym and never truly finish his newbie gains.

i did some tests. i have a slightly elevated calcium so it might be the reason for the appetite suppression as you have expected. sadly.
>Vitamin D
212.5 nmol/L. max is 250.
OR
85ng/mL. max is 100.

>Calcium total serum level
2.69mmol/L
Adults range is 2.12-2.55
Kids range is 2.1-2.75
OR
10.8mg/dl
Adults range is 8.5-10.22
kids range is 8.4-11

>Parathyroid Hormone (PTH), Plasma
2.23pmol/L. range is 1.06-6.89
OR
21pg/ml. range is 10-65

i've been doing 50k IU once every 3 days for 2 months. tested 4 days after the last dose.

i did 1700 calories today too.

idk if Vitamin D values vary a lot day to day.
thoughts about where to go from here? i want to test this Vitamin D thing because i really like being absolutely satiated and not thinking about food but having elevated calcium really put me down...

Actually, yes it does.
If you remember from science class, there are several types of energy.

Your food possesses potential energy. A set amount of it is the same for whatever the macros are.
We know that:
>Fat contains approximately 9cal per gram
>Carbs and protein contain 4 calories per gram.

There are many ways to release potential energy. Say you live in a world with perfectly uniform sugar cubes, weighing 5g each.
If you are able to completely break down the “container” of said energy, you will always be extracting the same amount.

There are many ways to break down a “container” of potential energy, converting it into different types of fuel:

>Potential energy -> thermal energy
Simple combustion does this. Burning off all the carbohydrates in our sugar cube leaves us with non-caloric substances like carbon. We can measure the outputted thermal energy. This is how we obtain calorie measurements.

>Potential energy -> chemical energy -> electrical energy -> kinetic energy -> thermal energy
This is how your body breaks down food. It is admittedly not as straightforward as simply burning the sugar cube.
First, we break down this “container” using a solvent. In this case, stomach acid. If this energy is used immediately, it becomes electrical energy, sent to our nerves, which in turn send impulses to our muscles, which generate movement (kinetic energy), and release heat (thermal energy). If we are consuming an excess amount of energy (calories), our bodies will simply store the abundance as potential energy (fat) for future thermogenesis (the name of the calorie-burning process).

>There are many more ways to exemplify the energy cycle. The point is, all potential energy becomes thermal energy once released; therefore burning it all out of its “container” makes for an effective way of measuring the quantity available.

I have attached a helpful infographic.

This is true. All atoms hold some energy. You can extract energy from any atom.

As I stated:
>Burning off all the carbohydrates in our sugar cube leaves us with non-caloric substances like carbon.

Of course, we could continue extracting energy from the remaining substances. This becomes increasingly harder once the easily-combustible macronutrients are released. Our bodies generally cannot do this.
We use carbon-rich substances such as charcoal to remove poisons from our bodies because humans are typically not capable of severing the molecular bonds of carbon molecules during digestion.
Carbon loves to create strong bonds, called carbon bonds. As a result, it tends to have an affinity for many poisons a human may ingest. As well as other necessary substances residing in your body. This is why we do not eat charcoal on a regular basis and feel quite ill when we need to.

>Nuclear fission is a good example of extracting energy that is not caloric (able to be digested through usual means).

But I've stalled for a few weeks

For context was eating 1500 per day (750 deficit) sometimes more on weekends but never over deficit

Because we are not burning these insoluble (to our bodies) substances. They typically combust under much greater heat and/or pressure than macronutrients.

The process is carefully monitored to ensure accuracy. Admittedly, I am not a thermodynamicist. Here is a video showing the process by which calories are calculated in this day and age:
https://youtube.com/watch?v=E1os4LxbOLU

Accurately measuring the calories in food was not a common practice until the late 1890s.
We used to lock people in copper-lined rooms, feed them, measure the physical/mental work they could perform, and the thermal energy they released.
>>
>>77433013
I would suppose that second method would be more accurate
and I would accept this newfangled colorimeter is the results are comparable to the old method
>>
>>77433020
The second method was accurate for the time, yes.

But it wasn’t objective data. Two people can have wildly different metabolic outputs depending on a variety of factors.

What gets one person able to run 5 miles might only be enough for the next person to run 3 with their unique body composition.

This is why we use a bomb calorimeter to objectively measure the quantity of energy in our foods.
The two different people can then eat the quantity required for their own unique persons, if they know a statistic such as their TDEE.
>>
>>77433024
>>77433024
>>
>>77433027
That speaks to the inaccuracy of the bomb colorimeter
>>
