>30 y.o. chud with a desk job>lift 3x per week + run 3x per week since 17.>am consistent with this routine with absolutely no injuries>1 year ago my friend got me into bouldering with him, had a bunch of fun going twice a week>tried overly aggressive shoes and got bony bumps on my big toes>would wake up with stiff fingers and occasional finger pain>ankle hurts from jumping down, even with mostly climbing down>went down to 1x per week, fingers mostly better but ankle still occasionally gets upset and hurts when I squat deep.>3 weeks ago meme myself into trying a BJJ class for self defense>have an amazing time and sign up for gym>after a particularly intense class, now my knee and hip really hurt>also jammed my finger during rolling so now it’s hurt the past few daysI’m having so much fun with these sports but I don’t want to totally fuck myself up with injuries. Especially worried about my hands because I play piano seriously. I know it’ll only get worse from here.Any advice for doing sports without getting fucked up? Am I better off going back to my tried and true lifting + running setup that keeps me active without injury?
if you have a desk job you have health insurance, if you have health insurance there's some kind of nurse line you can call for advice on how to rest your sprained pussy
>>77558835try lolympic gymnastics next time, then armwrestling, run ultramarathon and attend strongman competition with enough tardo shit you are bound to end up like this mofo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTnY6TiVmVQ
>>77558863Kek, love all the commenters calling this guy a retard.Maybe climbing is only a sport for deranged people
>>77558883>Kek, love all the commenters calling this guy a retard.>Maybe climbing is only a sport for deranged peoplejump a parachute for birthday present and land on straight legs breaking em both, and pelvis and spine in multiple places - it's fun! he also won't ever walk again, but it was fun! ... idea ... i guess, heard of the dude yesterday, he's selling his business away > lift 3x per week + run 3x per week since 17.both of these are ultra-retarded already, don't give up anon, you gotta up the ante - slap competition, learn to dive, maybe parkour?
>>77558835Update: just emailed my BJJ gym that I’m quitting. This shit is definitely gonna ruin my body, and a couple years of fun before I age out of it isn’t worth joint pain for the rest of my life.Still pondering dropping the 1x/week climbing, but I enjoy that as a built-in way to hang out with my friend every week.
>>77558895I’m not convinced running 4 miles 3x per week at a leisurely pace is having any negative effect on my test levels.
>>77558835>sports
>>77558835I climb thrice a week and box a couple of times, and I'm okayI have a back injury but that's from years ago, from lifting lmaoUnderstand that the newbie phase in both of these activities (bouldering and bjj) are the worst times for injuries>bouldering: your tendons haven't strengthened, you don't know how to climb efficiently so more strain on joints, you aren't comfortable at height and you're not comfortable falling safely etc.>bjj: newbie spazz phase, you don't know how to keep your joints safe, you can't feel yours + opponent's centers of gravity and you can't keep yourself or them safe, panic in bottom position leading to spazz flailing etc.And both of these are very skill focused activities, like any idiot can go for a jog and aside from stuff hips and knees probably not do any harm, but both of these activities actually require some learned skill of movement to stay safe inI would suggest cutting down your lifting and running volume while you incorporate a new activity, until you're comfortable at it and able to practice it safely
>>77558974>bouldering: your tendons haven't strengthened, you don't know how to climb efficiently so more strain on joints, you aren't comfortable at height and you're not comfortable falling safely etc.Plus every hold on shitter routes being a jug means that n00bz absolutely OBLITERATE their skin the first ten times or so. V0-V2 is flapper central.
>>77558915>running>4 miles>leisurely paceIt's not having much of an effect on anything
>>77558835I'll be real with you OPI've been doing BJJ for around a year now. I am in pain in one form or another ranging from 7/10 pain to 3/10 painMy neck now makes a constant clicking noise after some spazzy blue belt did a weird guillotine sprawl and cranked my neck into my asshole. Im pretty sure I have bulging disks in my neck. It's hurt in one way or another since then. Sometimes it gets agitated and I get nerve symptoms like pins and needles and waking up with dead armsIt's pretty much guaranteed you WILL be at least "hurt" if not fully injured. It's a combat sport. If you enjoy it enough, you will still do it. I suffer mentally more from boredom than I do from pain if I don't do it. Ask me again in a year though or after a truly catastrophic injury and the answer might be different All sports come with injuries. BJJ Injuries are part of the game. BJJ injuries can unfortunately be more serious. Ive witnessed only 1 serious injury (knee) in my 1 year of grappling.Shit happens. Injuries will redpill you on life
>>77558895Nah just sit on computer all day
>>77559141Fuck you, my resting heart rate is 42bpm. Clearly it’s doing something.
>>77559141heh
>>77559150>Nah just sit on computer all daymuscles in my hands are sore my lats are sore as well, lower outer lats specifically, couldn't figure out what is wrong with me, i was sleeping 10 hours a day past couple days, i got sick but now i know tuesday-wednesday i changed out big ball bearing in a piece of machinery, it was the 3rd time i did it, exact same thing - it's a series of cogs feeding off each other on a bunch of vertical shafts, except this time around i had to disassemble half the machine to get to it, take the old bearings off, fix the shaft cause it was worn (puncturing it 200 times around the diameter did the trick), i didn't do it alone but i did all the wrench pulling and all the delicate work as well everything felt easy, seamless, it dawned on me this morning that it was NOT easy the last two goes at it, there's a huge self-locking nut (70 mil diameter) with 4 square openings that i welded up specialty wrench for - it's a piece of pipe with 4 square hardened steel pieces welded onto it with another bigger ring securing those pieces on outer diameter so i took it off pulling between arms - one arm pushing on head of pipe wrench i made, the other arm pulling on extension going out perpendicularly, otherwise the thing i made would get loose in the nut, no idea what the factory wrench for it was, probably something that works axially suspended from ceiling, there's no way anyone is doing it by hand thereso i unscrewed it, and screwed it back together without stopping, without thinking, with ease, it was my 3rd go at it over the years and just today i remembered >wait a fucking minute, i used to think it was unbearably tight, that it's impossible how hard it goes, that two people would pull on each side for balance and gas out multiple times before it was finished turning > i vividly remember stopping and wondering whether i am not breaking something it went that hard before so yeah pictured is made by pulling/pushing wrenches between hands
>>77560465> so yeah pictured is made by pulling/pushing wrenches between handsit's the rotational force succer playors use to change direction mid-roon and get ronaldo-esque lats from it so the exercise is - push with straight arm on some unmovable point, pull with other hand on cable or rubber or something STANDING no it is NOT the same as one arm heavy db row, not in the slightest, it doesn't use upper traps at all - scaps are wide apart here, arms are straight i kept reminding myself throughout the job > you can strip every thread here between your hands with a standard wrench and i didn't strip anything :D i just wound up with a little unspecific for me fatiguewhelp, guess imma order some HEAVY SHORT POWER-BANDS cause this movement is of utmost importance, and it feels soo right, sooo self contained, so cool >>77559150>Nah just sit on computer all daygo for a walk:>>77556362pull some rubbers: >>77557203>>77555407>>and so are these:> but it's not STIMULATING ENOUGH > i need to FEEL ENTERTAINED EVERY FUCKING WAKING OUR skill issue, dopamine receptors burned to ashi am actually developing techniques to NOT get excited about shit, i find it very empowering
>>77560502>>77560465No ones reading all that. Keep sitting in front of computer
>>77558835You're just a noob at sports. When you get better at the sport, you won't get injured as often because you actually know how to move properly. I barely get injured in BJJ these days, and when I do it's minor.

>>77558835ime going from immobile for 9 hours to suddenly jumping into a highly mobile activity at the end of the day will fuck you up. try to find ways to incorporate more low impact movement & stretching into your normal day. pretty much all of the serious climbers i've known have had some form of hangboard in their homes/offices/garage etc.if you have any kind of yard or outdoor space, slacklines can teach you a lot of body awareness stuff you dont really get from static lifts. you will also learn how to fall properly and how to catch yourself from awkward angles.also, climbing ropes exist. you're torn between quitting and getting too rekt to function, maybe just put on a harness for a while
>>77561225Wingsuit off a mountain top then parashute after passing a cliff. All this rope shit is gay and too secure despite same potential energies involved.
