Any version of Windows since 1995 has been more polished, production-ready and user-friendly than any Linux distro ever made. That's obvious to anybody who has installed both of them on the same machine.

Are Linux users just lying about their distros being a better experience than a Windows installation?

Also what I never really got, from a privacy and security standpoint, is why I would trust some random repository or linux maintainers over a marker value company who has a lot more to loose? You can check the code yourself blabla but who actually does that or is able to truly grasp all of it (not me).

READ THE (temp)WIKI! & help by contributing:
https://igwiki.lyci.de/wiki/Home_server

/hsg/ is about learning and expanding your horizons. Know all about NAS? Learn virtualization. Spun up some VMs? Learn about networking by standing up a OPNsense/PFsense box and configuring some VLANs. There's always more to learn and chances to grow. Think you’re god-tier already? Setup OpenStack and report back.

>What software should I run?
Install Gentoo. Or whatever flavor of *nix is best for the job or most comfy for you. Jellyfin/Emby/Plex to replace Netflix, Nextcloud to replace Googlel, Ampache/Navidrome to replace Spotify, the list goes on. Look at the awesome self-hosted list and ask.

>Why should I have a home server?
De-botnet your life. Learn something new. Serving applications to yourself, your family, and your frens feels good. Put your tech skills to good use for yourself and those close to you. Store their data with proper availability redundancy and backups and serve it back to them with a /comfy/ easy to use interface.

How much more technology can you fit into a standard gameplay experience though? Ultra-hyper realistic graphics have been having diminishing returns on enhancing gameplay for some time now. Only thing left is GPUs catching up to the high resolutions/refresh rates of monitors and VR. At some point increasing hz/resolution wont matter.
The end result is just the games being potentially more immersive/cinematic, and that's it? But the gameplay of something like Tetris provides you with the same experience on a gameboy as an 8k/300hz+ monitor. And in the prior case your ultra realistic/immersive cinematic game is still going to have your running around in third person/first person in a 3d plane. There is no longer a technological bottleneck for 99% of gameplay. In this sense gameplay services like GeForce now will fail in the long run until a new novel gameplay experience is discovered that can only be delivered by "renting" (holodecks or some shit like that)

I always wondered how you’re even supposed to compare checkpoints. Do you just generate 100 images with one model and then 100 with the other, for the same set of seeds and for the same tags, and then for each pair you compare them and pick your favorite, tallying up the count? Do you test for a wide range of CFGs, or samplers, or steps, to see if either model works better at some specific settings?

And at the end of the day, a lot of this seems very subjective. It’s one thing to test for prompt adherence (and even that is to some extent subjective) but when it comes to “quality” I feel like there’s too much in play to properly compare two sets of pictures.

Is there anything even remotely close to an objective metric here?

What is the deal with the Anti-AI derangement syndrome? I don't like to judge people, but the anti-AI seem to include an evenly distribution of furries, twitter "artists", people with funny hair color, and a poor understanding of economy.

>I don't like to judge people, but the anti-AI seem to include an evenly distribution of furries, twitter "artists",

because that's true, you literally see tons of retards saying 'ai slop' or 'robotic slop' or praising human 'soul' there and there, so retarded, none of them understand ai is still in baby phase, back in 2023 it barely could make hands or eyes or faces, and now we have a flood of furry porns made with online ai tools, there is over 2 million of porns made with ai generations, we have 5sec animations, we have sora, gemini, grok is getting better and so on and on, AI by 2027 will be common tool used by people in everything, of course if we eliminate problems like it making up bullshit, but so far grok and others seems to be pretty helpful when it comes for doing research, they can even help you learning other languages

The texture is wrong though, it didn't follow the instructions correctly. Sure enough it's trivial to fix and using AI probably saved the guy who was making this a lot of time, but every time I see one of these small mistakes I can't help but remember that some corporations are already trying to replace their workers with AI because they think it's perfect already. An incorrect texture for what seems to be a gta3 clone is completely harmless, but I'm worried when those small and easy to miss mistakes will start affecting more serious stuff.

it swapped the locations of the back and the bottom of the building. If you applied that texture to that model there would be a weird seam on the other side.

As long as you remember to load whatever the other model is first.
But then if you want to save a little memory you can change the context size, the batch size, the ram context cache thingie, do you compromise on one model, the other, is the memory usage on the other thing fixed or can it expand. Anything --fit can do i'd rather do manually.
I don't mind the parameter existing as long as I can turn it off.
