Should FOSS be on social media? Is KDE e.v. employee Paul Brown right about X being a nazi platform?Discuss
>>107706525I dunno I'm kind of a nazi and I never use xitter.
>>107706525Twitter is so weird, sure you have "free speech" but there are actual bots and people that literally behave like bots + larpers. It's fine if you use it more like an RSS feed via nitter for a few selected people you like to follow, otherwise it's completely shit.
>>107706525>hey paul!
FOSS should never be on proprietary web services like X or github.

>>107704662are you fucking retarded? schizo faggot.
>>107708805> file hash filtering images.lol you are a fucking moron. I use fucktons of these and it filters out at least 90% of the shit. I actually find it kind of fun going on /b/ adding file hashes from over used bullshit like wojaks and other zoomer dog shit. I haven't even seen very many of them around because zoomers are never original generally. Which is fucking funny. However whats sad is that probably in like what the last 5-3yrs I haven't seen a new meme at all from 4chan. Most of the memes are now just nigger memes from tiktok.
>>107702726The guys who pay for OF are mentally ill retards who think that if they give some whore enough money she'll have sex with them. The chicks that make the most money are the ones that hook whales with personalised videos that are about as low effort as cameo. This isn't a market that AI can really take, because it's so shit at emulating anything even vaguely human. The market for AI is CEOs who think they'll be able to lay off their whole workforce, who will sign up for some retarded contract that promises the world and then get sucked dry.
Won't all open AI employees get a 1mil check at the end of next year? How will they fund that
If you use the GNU Image Manipulation Program, there is something wrong with you mentally. It is the only thing preventing me from using a Linux-based OS on a permanent basis. I need Photoshop to work and WINE is buggy as shit. The GIMP is a shit alternative.Prove me wrong. Why would anyone deliberately use this garbage?
I do my cleaning, redrawing and typesetting in gimp (though TL comes from anons or someone else). It's fine desu, I'll admit that creating a double outlined text with custom halftoned linear gradient is a few more steps and layers than Photoshop but not enough of a deal breaker for me to fuck with wine. While I don't know exact shortcuts, it's kinda muscle memory for me. Like if I want to reset fg and bg color my hand just goes and does it without an explicit thought, though I think it was either X or D?
>>107708012because those are the only two options, and we shouldn't consider the obvious best solution, the portable Photoshop cs6 thumbdrive install from when it was still a good program with zero AI
>>107708680lmaoing @ ur life
>>107708704quite the insightful and compelling argument
>>107705635I've been using GIMP for 20+ years without any issues. If you don't like it, Krita also exists.
Had Logitech G305 - developed doubleclicking in a yearSwitched to CoolerMaster MM712 - scroll wheel started scrolling in random directions in a year, on top of shitty wireless connectivity. And the funniest thing is that I used $5 store brand mice before and all of them lasted me much longer than that without issues. Is there a single reliable brand of wireless mice that work and I won't have to pay through the roof to get?
Has anyone tried the keychron mice? Thinking about picking one up.
Short answer, no. Long answer, the industrial revolution and its consequences have been disastrous for the human race. Modern mice are built fully for the concept of planned obsolescence, because we are now about a decade past the point where optical sensors were considered perfect. To put it simply, there is no possible improvement to be made in standard mice according to the current meta. You can make them slightly lighter, that's about it. Because of this, manufacturers have been designing their circuits wrong on purpose to kill switches by undervolting them, there is no fix for this. Anyone who says "lol solder a new one in every 2 months" is a retard. In order to "fix" the issue they created because people got mad about it, manufacturers started using optical switches instead. The current failure component is the scroll wheel, which is kind of a double deal of assfuckery with NO POSSIBLE FIXES.No fixes, you ask? How is that possible? Well, the current zeitgeist is weight management, and traditional optomechanical scroll wheels, the kind that have been around for 30+ years and nobody has ever had a failure with, are a little heavier. The modern solution, the mechanical encoder, is a cheaply made piece of garbage intended to solve this problem by making the whole assembly lighter, and also about a billion times less reliable. In about 5-10 years, you'll start seeing hall effect scroll wheels to "fix" this problem.Meanwhile, I use a mouse made by whites in a first world country for industry applications with components used within spec, and so it'll probably fail in 100 years.
>>107696886my G203 died to a coffee spill then came back to life, never had click issues in 2 years but I broke the scrollwheel in some tardrageso I got a G305 and if that shits the bed I stole an old but mostly unused Microsoft WMO not long ago and will use that for the foreseeable future
>>107697048you will always be a woman

nta but I'm That Guy who still has every single image/song/video he's ever saved since 1994.1. make offsite backups often. spend time getting a good process going so you don't have to think about it2. raid is for suckers. hardware level solutions will never save you3. never touch source files until the backup is off the original machine and integrity CONFIRMED. never ever delete originals while the backup is on a device connected to the same machine.
>>107708723That's pretty impressive Though I suppose if I was even alive in 1994 that might be me right now I have everything since 2011I don't really have backups thoughIf my SSD died rn yeah I'd be more than a little fucked
>>107708918Sadly I'm missing one slice from around 2007-2010, which is terrible because that was some of 4chan's most prime memeing years. It was the result of a catastrophic backup gone wrong due to poor 4GB+ disk drivers at the time, hence my advice in the post. RIP
>>107708723How do you confirm integrity programmatically?
>Use KDE gayland, everything is slow, low fps, input lag, weird frame pacing that doesnt feel smooth even with a smooth frametime graph in games>Use X11 with Xmonad Tiling window manager, It just werks, everything werks, no latency or input lag>High FPS, gaming just werks and I get 20fps+ more than gayland for some reason and its buttery smooth>Fast with zero bloat, Configure everything to my likingAt this point, I wont even use any desktop environment on linux if it isn't X11. Even XFCE is dead to me because it has wayland support. I will never support anything wayland based on linux.I'm X11 pilled.
wayland drove me back to windows
>>107708922Wayland being pushed onto people while still being an unfinished mess was a massive mistake

How does Red Hat make money if Linux is free?
But Fedora43 is supposed to be good....
>>107708883fedora is good because it's not completely under Red Hat control, there is still some (albeit not 100%) community control. That's why fedora uses btrfs and redhat is still keeping XFS on life support in RHEL.
>>107708817>Red Hat is shit unlike the big data giants who wants me to host everything on their servers. They're not 1:1 competitors, Red Hat services are mostly about having total infra management, with migrations to AWS, Azure, Google, etc, because the cloud alternatives clearly are not at the same scale. You're oversimplifying things in a totally retarded way.
>>107708916I'm saying Red Hat only has low-mid tier software engineers, and any good software engineer knows they can get a lot more money going to FAANG or a unicorn. The big 3 cloud providers have their own modifications and custom distro for Linux, use their own internal infrastructure tools. The cream of the crop of RedHat employees get picked up by FAANG and what's left are mediocre developers. Have you ever used a RedHat product outside of RHEL? Ansible or Satellite? They both are horribly designed and full of bugs.
>>107708883Wasn't 43 buggy as shit before they started fixing that?

>>107707810I've been interested in getting a SIM of theirs as a cheap second phone line for work. How are they with VoLTE and older devices?
Does anyone else hate the fact that there is literally fucking nowhere in the US without cell reception anymore? Carriers have so many high LTE and 5G bands that I'll be in the middle of the woods or burying bodies and I still have perfect service.
Seems like the YouTube app is testing AI upscaling, a 720p video i was watching got a "1080p super resolution" option
>>107708707That particular plan uses AT&T now. Older mainstream phones look like they work. Maybe more unusual phones would work on an MVNO. Would use the IMEI checker regardless.https://www.att.com/scmsassets/support/wireless/devices-working-on-att-network.pdf

/dpt/ - Daily Programming ThreadWelcome to the Daily Programming Thread. What are you working on, /g/?Previous thread >>>107670460
I'm overwhelmed I feel like I need to understand things at a LOW-LEVEL but I also need to BUILD FAST and just FINISH THINGS.
>>107707892Your teachers just suck.
>>107707916you literally do not know who i am
>>107707991If believing that makes you feel comfortable.
>>107707892You should split your time and do both. Low level understanding is invaluable, but it's also an endless quest. You'll never reach a point where you feel like you understand everything that makes your program work. The only way is to iteratively deepen your low-level understanding while also practicing your ability to actually ship stuff.
