>>107729093you shouldnt want to hang out/socialize with people in your "hobby" i think.even this thread is shit for the reason ill bring up. the more you talk about your thing, the less you actually do of the thing. because just talking about it tricks your brain into thinking you were productive, so you become addicted to the chatting about it rather than the doing.just think about the autistic savant programming Roller coaster tycoon in assembly. he most likely had no one to ever talk to about it and got all of his stuff from books. and he made one of the greatest achievements the world has ever seen (not hyperbole)
>>107729412>you shouldnt want to hang out/socialize with people in your "hobby" i think. You REALLY should, hanging out with other game developers in my teens gave me so many connections later on in life

>A zoomer will now educate you on how the internet use to beWhy do zoomers pretend to be nostalgic for a time they never experienced?
>>107716918Happens at every age and era. Don't tell you've never been >born 1990>become 20-30>suddenly dressing and vibing like an 80s guy, driving JDM cars or whatever pretending to be an 80s racer. Your earliest memory is like 3-5 y.o. You don't start understanding culture until you're like 10 or some shit. By then it's the fucking 2000.Or born 80-90s. Turns adult and suddenly wearing 50s-70s leather jacket and denim jeans, retro helmet, retro style bike etc. You're ever born in that era. We never lived it.Born 50s-70s but pretending you're living like Indy Jones in the 20s. Or the fucking 1800s.
>>107729279That's a load of shit. Most people realize 80s was peak. Even baby boomers, and gen x will admit this.

>>107729177The zoomers never actually understood a e s t h e t i c s or vaporwave
>>107729388not him, but "the '80s" has been a mythical time for as long i remember. it will permanently be "20 years ago" to me, it has the birth of home computing, the birth of consumer internet access, peak music. i know i'm romanticizing a time i didn't experience, and this probably the same deal zoomers are feeling with regards to the '90s/'00s, a different time of rapidly progressing technology which they just missed out on

>>107729398Nobody developed their own machines because it would have gotten them raped by patent troll.Think about HTC, the once largest smartphone manufacturer on the planet. They got kicked out of both the USA and the EU by patent trolls enforcing trivial patents. The smartphone sector of HTC is dead now.It is economically more viable to take the L and adhere to those patent trolls, because it keeps you access to 750 million people Westoid market. But once you are kicked out of the market via sanctions, you don't have to care about the trolls anymore. If not a single one of the devices, that get produced by 100% Chinese tech, can be sold in the US and EU... who gives a fuck? They already kicked you out anyway!See >>107728892 trying to kick out Chinese RAM producers to protect their cartel. The Westoid economic war is so retarded that it's simply not economically viable anymore to care about the Western market. Therefor: You are now allowed to develop without artificial constraints.
How can you realistically get hacked from using an outdated OS if you're behind a firewall? All those meme vids of "computer hacked after 10 seconds of connecting XP to the internet" involve turning off he firewall, from what I heard. If the firewall is on what is the realistic attack vector where you get hacked because of an unpatched weakness in the OS? Outdated browser maybe, but that goes for any OS. Is browser security worse on an outdated OS?

Also installing gnome on Mint is usually not a good idea. Mint and cinnamon are designed to work well together, if you want gnome use something like ubuntu, debian, fedora, anything else really. Lastly I would say that your rice is not that good since it is basically stock gnome. But keep it up and soon you’ll be a linux pro, ahead of the curve. Cheers.

I'm 34yo and never paid for any software in my life. Games or otherwise
once a long time ago, maybe around 2008, i bought some data recovery software to get data from my failed mdadm/xfs raid. i was desperate.thinking about it, it was probably the only time i actually paid for software specifically designed for linux (excluding games)
