Why don't we make an OS from scratch with no Unix and no (minimal) legacy bloat?

What would be the best architecture for this modern OS?

nothing would run properly on it, it would still be beholden to current cpu (and gpu) architectures, and generally offer no real advantages other than "security" (false, it is already compromised by the hacker known as 4chan) and aesthetics (also false, /g/ is dogshit at visual design let alone UI/UX)

Mate, the CPU executes four XORs and/or four ANDs in a single fucking cycle. You want to trim fat, you first get rid of fifty-year-old interfaces and enable zero-copy submissions without triggering global TLB shootdowns that require tens of thousands of cycles, and then you disable overcommit so that all the shitware out there has to actually *use* the memory it demands from the kernel.

THAT'S where the meat's at.

99.99% of the complexity of yt-dip is overcoming anti-downloading measures that YouTube constantly updates against them. Why do you think it has js shit in it? For fun? It's because they have to literally run blackbox Google JavaScript to generate challenge responses in order to access the good quality download versions. You'd better hope they manage to get SABR working before Google forces that too.

Why would you do that? Are you violently retarded?
>>

Yeah I always end up just using Brave for mobile since phone browser ad-blocks always end up being finicky for me. I think it's a good use case for Brave. I think Vivaldi is also a solid option if you don't mind it being more closed source than other alternatives.
>>
>>108510904
Depends on your needs, OS, and what do you mean by "better" (it may make sense to rethink your usage of this word). I would say the main alternatives are Furryfox and Chromium (or Ungoogled Chromium, probably???), so I'll (subjectively) compare Brave with them. There are also some other smaller independent(?) browsers like Falkon, qutebrowser, or Luakit, but I don't have much experience with them, therefore won't comment on this regard.

# Furryfox

## Pros
- Easier to set up declaratively. customize in general, or change the looks even without add-ons
- By far superior vertical tab organization functionality if you don't mind installing some plugin like Sidebery
- Imposes less restrictions on plugins, as far as I know
- Can be found in virtually any general purpose software repo
- Compiles and runs natively on almost every general-purpose OS (even NetBSD); in other words --- very portable
- Considerably better startup speed if you have enormous piles of tabs hoarded (I have about 10k right now and it's still usable)

The one in which sweeping complexity under the rug doesn't actually reduce complexity.
>>
>>108507474
yes I was mostly talking about idiomatic code in those languages, I know go is a bit more transparent about how your memory is actually used (by allowing pointers) and in the last decade I know C# has added much more control and tools to handle how things are actually allocated, but:

a) almost no one takes advantage of these things
b) the added complexity just makes me think why bother? just use C/C++

>while most C++/Rust programmers mess this up, leading to up to 10x slowdowns
I agree, especially in Rust code that I've seen this is a big mess.
