The hololive thread was being haunted by a couple of retards who would shitpost non-stop all day every day and not get banned. Everyone was sick of them so when 4chan went down last year, they left for good. That's the biggest reason, and there were a few more reasons.

the /vt/ board was so poorly moderated and full of samefag schizos from southeast asia, so when this site was down for a few weeks and everyone had migrated to a site that had ids (and some shizos got exposed for replying to themselves) and good moderation, they finally realized how much better it could be and a large chunk never came back

im so glad every wectern soothsayer up until 2010 was a fucking retard that didn't know what they were talking about, it's a good thing we've been able to advance our thinking in a way that allows for the advancement of our society without pesky, outdated, passe metrics like "industrial output" or "wage growth" or "energy consumption" or "internet speed"

Hi all, I'm looking to start writing my own toy kernel. Nothing fancy, just
want to get to grips with understanding how that side of computing works. I
didn't do an OS course in uni as they were too busy shoving mathematics into my
head.
To give an understanding of my own skill level, I've written a Lisp interpreter,
a (pretty shitty) optimising compiler for Forth, and some toy games.
I've got two books ("Operating Systems: Three Easy Pieces" and "Modern Operating
Systems") but I'd like something a bit more hands-on with regards to developing,
say, a kernel targetting x86-64.
>>
>>107667131
Ask GPT to write a 16-bit bootloader that jumps to 32-bit then 64-bit then jumps to your main. Osdev.org is garbage just ask GPT to setup paging and the other stuff too.
>>
>>107667131
>but I'd like something a bit more hands-on with regards to developing,
>say, a kernel targetting x86-64.
checkout the Intel manuals, specifically volume 3
>>
>>107667156
Thank you anon. Admittedly I don't use LLMs as much as I perhaps should. I've
asked it to generate me a bootloader now and am working to see how I can test it
effectively.
Regarding the warning on OSDev.org - it seems like a pretty useful website. Is
there a particular reason you dislike it?
>>107667238
Lmao I have it downloaded surprisingly. I'll give it an actual read now.
>>
>>107667131
>"Operating Systems: Three Easy Pieces"
sire that book has exercises that make you code and fix stuff in an actual (toy) implementation of a x86 kernel

Why is Apple the only company capable of making a laptop worth using?
81 replies and 9 images omitted. Click here to view.

other companies are catching up to apple but EXTREMELY slowly and with random dips
as far as I can tell, other companies get a guy/team in charge that progressively get better at their job over several product releases, but then they leave/get fired and the next product is shit again
as the industry standardizes on sockets, protocols and shit, there are fewer unknowns vendors have to work through for a product release and thus overall the laptop quality goes up

HDR is a wholly new video standard
IDK how wanting improvements to the fundamentals of digital video could ever be seen as a cult.

if that's not available then it's formatted for mac

It's good, but mostly because of the hate-fucking because I'm still pissed. Don't know if she's a whore, nor do I care who she fucks. She says it's only me, but women always lie about that. I fuck hookers (prostitution is legal in my country) on a weekly basis so whatever.
>>107666193
Yes, but unironically. I had to become an engineer and make money to become attractive to women. I was a kissless virgin until I got my first job at 23. I had to learn about sex by fucking countless hookers over the years so I could make non-hooker women cum to compensate for my average dick. Chads on the other hand can be fucking homeless and make women scream in pleasure with just the tip. Don't you realise how pissed I am about not being able to dedicate my time to things I like, because I have to spend it in shit like having a job, working out, and "self improving"? I have a libre booted thinkpad x200 that I haven't touched since I was 23. I no longer have time for ricing my window manager and for geeking out over stuff like that, and instead use exclusively proprietary software on my day to day and I fucking hate myself for it. I mean I do have free time. It's just that I wish I could go back to the times when I could spend the whole day until 5am doing useless shit, like tuning config files and shitposting on /g/ about that.
