i fell for the hackernews maymay a while back and bought 10 of those $2 weact 0.96" displays for prototyping a wearable HUD. theyre actually pretty sick, aside from using RGB565 and being super washed out, but that can be fixed in software. but the software is where im having issues. their official driver is a fork of https://github.com/mathoudebine/turing-smart-screen-python, and there are three issues; 1) its GPLv3, 2) it doesnt do what i want (hence my rewriting software for this thing), and 3) the software support seems VERY incomplete, as in it doesnt support almost any of the probably-available commands for whatever driver ic it uses.

so does anyone have any esoteric knowledge on either what tft controller ic it uses or how to figure it out? the closest ive gotten is that it maybe uses something like a st7735 which adafruit has published c files for, but none of the command bytes match up with those in the weact or turing source code, and the ic package doesnt match so i doubt thats it. ive been able to find the actual oled display module datasheets, but theyre useless for me because this thing uses a usb interface and an ic between that and the oled.

That's fair enough, and indeed mostly the way I think.
But - and its a big but - since the first 5MB ST-506 rolled off the production line, they've been measuring disk size in decimal, and they've always been up-front about this with "1MB = 1,000,000 bytes" proudly displayed on them.
>>
>>107680144
i never said i dont get that, but i still think its retarded and false advertising.
"2TB = 1.81TiB" is accurate according to the set standards, yeah, but the vast majority of people either use windows (which uses 1028 under a KB format) or just dont know of the difference.
not to mention how a 1028 system just makes more sense since we're talking about binary computers.
the word that sounds real should go with the optimal measurement system, and the made up nonsense word should go with the nonsensical system
>inb4 DOOD 1000 MAKES SENSE! ITS FLAT!!!
not for computers, 1028 does (see >>107680419)
but if you're saying that a measurement system of 1000 makes sense for computers, you're probably the same kind of retard that thinks the temperature system humans use on a day to day basis should be the system for water instead of the system for humans.

in fact actually thinking about it, the "kibi" nonsense was probably made up by some retarded that doesnt understand the fundamentals of computing.
>one kilobyte is 2^10 bytes, one megabyte is 2^20, and so on.
>to anyone that actually understands the basics and how computers work best in multiples of 2, this system makes perfect sense
>now if you're a retard that doesn't understand, you'll only see the raw values of "kilo = 1028" and "mega = 1048576"
so no, i will not accept your "kibble bites" nonsense, the real unit is kilobyte and it equals 1028.
i WILL continue to accuse hard drive companies of false advertisement.
>>
>>107680540
You can do that, anon.
But "Tera" has meant a trillion for the better part of a century.
Drives have had "1MB/1GB/1TB = a million/billion/trillion bytes" written all over them since your parents were in diapers.
It's not going to stick, no matter how much it hurts your feelings - others have tried.
>>
>>107680622
yeah, your kibble bite nonsense wont stick.
>>
>>107680626
It's not my nonsense - indeed, I think whichever nigger down at IEC headquarters who invented these "words" needs to have his entire family swinging from lamp posts as an example to the next ten generations not to try to normalise autism.
But it doesn't change the fact that Tera means a trillion.

WinSxS is pretty much not used by anything. The entire feature is mostly pointless. In practice it pretty much exists solely to support common controls v6.

Oh, really? I’m so sorry that a massive, multi-decade engineering feat like the .NET Framework isn't "complete" enough for your obviously superior, high-level needs. I guess thousands of engineers at Microsoft have just been sitting around playing Minesweeper since 2002 while you’ve been out here bravely fighting the "wrong" documentation.
Actually, you’re completely wrong, because if .NET were "incomplete," then why is the .exe file called an "executable"? It executes things, doesn't it? If it can execute, it’s finished. Case closed. Plus, have you even considered that Win32 is old? Why would you want to use something old when you can use something newer? New is always better, even if it doesn't do the specific thing you want it to do. That’s just basic logic.
And "woefully incomplete"? Please. I managed to write a Console app that says "Hello World" in like three lines of code without a single P/Invoke. If it can do that, it can clearly do anything. Maybe the reason the standard library is "wrong" is because you're just looking at it wrong? Did you ever think of that? Maybe you're the one who’s "woefully incomplete."
But sure, go ahead. Waste your life typing out
 [DllImport("user32.dll")]
for the five-thousandth time like it’s 1995. I hope you enjoy your memory leaks and your "precision." Some of us prefer to live in 2025, where we don't care if the code actually works as long as the syntax highlighting looks pretty.

my mother bought a samsung tv and there is no digit pads on the remote, i don't understand the thought process
>>
>>107680543
The thought process is that you only care about streaming now and if there even is a TV tuner you probably don't use it. I don't know if my Samsung TV has a tuner. This is the Philippines after all and ISDB-T is the standard. That's somewhat exotic. A few TVs have a built in ISDB-T tuner, some have analog NTSC tuners still (you can still get OTA analog TV and there are a lot of local cable companies that are still analog) while others now just have HDMI and composite inputs in addition to the smart TV garbage. It's a giant mess compared to a large market like the US where they will get models with ATSC made specifically for them. But lots of people won't realize they can still watch free over the air TV with an antenna because they are that stupid. It's just been forgotten by many.

Normies IQ is too low to understand what the button does.
>>
>>107678737
>home button
>watch the ad
>select the source
>watch the source selection ad
>throw the remote in the trash
>use only that input forever
>>
>>107680565
I forgot to mention a few things. Here in the Philippines most people who watch digital over the air TV will use an external set top box tuner that has HDMI/composite outputs. This means they will have a separate remote and almost always it does have a numerical pad. That really cuts through all this confusion.

While I haven't ever looked into what kind of tuner the Samsung in our living room has, if it has one at all, I have a 32 inch TCL TV in my bedroom with no smart features. It actually has an ISDB-T tuner and a full remote. It was probably one of the last of it's kind and it's full featured for what it is.

I'd just like to take a moment to shout out the new gooner chrome feature called Split View. It's surprisingly intuitive.

Forgive the retarded question, but been out of the game for awhile and want to make some decisions.
I need to replace some parts that died, and given the cost of ram all I could source was a 32 gig kit of cl30 ddr 5 ram.
Historically my "ai box" has had a 2x48gb kit of slightly worse timings, the main hardware in there is 2 3090s, and my question is if I took the 96 gig kit for my main build and gave it 32, how much would that hurt things? I know most stuff goes in the vram, but as far as recent models are there better quants or anything to where I won't notice that missing ram?

Just recently got a mac mini for free from my job. m4 pro chip, 24gb ram, 512gb ssd. Booted it up, set everything up, aaaaand what the fuck:

>don't have a 1500 dollar display directly from apple? don't have the 5k resolution equivalent from dell? wanna get a nice cheap 1440p or even 4k res monitor? no, sorry, not good enough, all your shit is blurry as fuck because we don't support those resolutions.
>want to fix that problem? sure buddy download this software betterdisplay off github. good shit right? we fixed apples mess for you.. that'll be 20 dollars plus tip to use the whole app. also our "Fix" just makes everything scale slightly less blurry, but not actually truly outputting at the proper resolution. plus tip. also when you do this you can't have HDR enabled. You get either slightly less retarded looking text or shit scaling with hdr. your choice faggot
>nice logitech/non mac mouse you got there. we're gonna purposefully fuck the scrolling up so when you scroll once it barely scrolls at all, and when you scroll a bunch all at once it torpedoes you to the bottom of the page. if you had a magic mouse from apple, there's a setting for that specifically, but if you plug anything else in you don't get to see or configure that.
>don't worry there's third party apps for that too! download them.. but they all have 7 day trials and disable themselves unless you pay 20 dollars plus tip.
>wanna upgrade that storage? you don't have the right. should've gotten what you wanted out of the gate, stupid. you literally can't even bring it into an apple store and pay an exorbitant fee to have a cheap ssd thrown in. we just literally don't even do it. go buy an external drive you shit head. fucking moron idiot.

who's fucking allowing this stupid shit? do apple fanboys really fucking shell out this much cash just to make their shit usable? what the actual fuck is this shit?

I legitimately can not discern the difference between 128kbps audio and anything higher bitrate. For years I've seen anons argue about 320kbps, FLAC, WAV, and so forth. But honest to God, the difference to my ears is near imperceptible. I listen to headphones for 8+ hours every day, and even I can't tell the difference. Sure my equipment is not top-tier, but I doubt that explains it.

For my favorite music, I can just about tell the difference between 128kbps and 320kbps. Like if I really try hard. But anything above that.. forget it. I really feel people are lying when they claim they are able to hear nuances beyond 320kbps. I believe higher than 320kbps is hardcore placebo-tier and people who hoard FLACs are raping their limited storage capacity for no reason.

What do you think? Is the audiophile culture plagued by lying cocksuckers, or do some people have golden ears?
