AI should re-write GNU compiler and glibc in rust and release it under a closed source license with Elon Musk and grokCanonical and RedHat should implement this and spend heaps of money keeping it closed source and proprietary.the rest will follow suit. The end user should never have a compiler because this is antithetical to the user experience.users should be required to register with a "Linux account" and a renewable "linux license" to make sure the system is up to date and genuine, A genuine system would not be able to download files.Apps should be installed with one click, or through a paid app store, and not with using retarded configurations and "muh compiler" like a sub 50 iq neckbeardSoftware included would be provided by Microsoft and Google.the system should be immutable because the user should not need to modify the system, and should not be able too.The user would be allowed a total of 3 folders, Desktop, Downloads, and Cloud.Comment too long. Only then will we achieve year of the linux desktop
>>106752313>he wants a dumb machine which does exactly what it's designed for and nothing morethey'll never actually do it, a locked down system doesn't create problems to solve for the tech industry. it just werks>inb4 artifical problemswhy would they do this when current tech gives real problems naturally and for free?
Torvalds dies and the Kernel copyright changes to proprietary and closed source.DistroHopping would no longer be allowed, the system cannot be replaced. The unified Linux distrobutiong colloquially known as "The Distro" or "Linux"updates are non-optional and the OS and Software version is controlled by the repository and can not be downgraded, machines deemed "obsolete" would no longer be supported by the repo and updates and software support will cease. The bootloader should be locked, the kernel signed and the MOBO manufacturer would need to be complicit or the system would not run.Linux computers should not be compatible with windows and Windows computers should not be compatible with linux, this would be a security vulnerability.
There will be no command prompt.
Why doesn't linux just make installing apps easy like dragging and dropping them into the apps folder?

>>106751512>Most people don't know what an "apps folder" is.Mac OS has an /Applications folder. Next/Apple was sensible to hide the "unixness" of their system to make things human-readable.
>>106751003We actually do have technology for this. It's called AppImage and desktop environments are supposed to integrate it.But Linux devs are autistic and would rather do things the hard way.
Can't you just double click the flatpak and it will install? How is dragging an icon any better?
I miss it

Swift is the only language I enjoy using I'm just going to stick to it despite not having a Mac. Tooling is not that bad on Linux at least.
When does it makes sense to use SQLite or any other DB to manage the data of my CGI webapp? Currently I store most my data in memory-mapped files with a bit of locking logic where necessary, but I wonder if it's worth it to just migrate all data into a proper DB and significantly reduce the size of my program. One point that might speak against using SQL is that my data is user-entered and unclean, so when matching different sources (tables), I have to do some string processing and error-tolerance (i.e. trim the strings, lowercase, which I think is hard to do in SQL? Do hybrid queries make sense, where I grab some data from one table, transform it in a general purpose language, and then do the second step of the query? Perhaps via building temporary tables?

Im about to install manjaro with xfce on a laptop mainly to use for renoise. Am i making the right choice or should i spend another few hours reviewing and reading up on a bunch of other distros? Is there anything in the aur thats advantageous or optimizes renoise btw? Thats the main reason i leaned toward manjaro cuz i read you get access to the arch repository which is supposed to have more cutting edge advantage but i have no idea if thatll improve renoise experience
