Why don't we make an OS from scratch with no Unix and no (minimal) legacy bloat?

What would be the best architecture for this modern OS?

Name a kernel - *specifically a kernel* - and its features that are fundamentally different from NT that people would move to other OSes.

today was one of the weirdest encounters i’ve had at work

i’m a supervisor at a company, and one of the employees i’ve been overseeing for about 4 months uses ubuntu on his work laptop. it was always a bit inconvenient since everyone else uses macs (company provided), so we’d have to deal with flash drives or uploads instead of just airdrop, but whatever — he got his work done so i didn’t care

until today

i gave him something urgent to finish. came back after an hour and asked if he was done. he says he’s “having issues with his OS”

we’re on a tight deadline, so i offer him a spare dell latitude to just get it done quickly

this guy straight up refuses and says “i don’t use this trash”

at that point i don’t even care, i just tell him we need to finish the task NOW. he takes the laptop… and instead of doing the work, he starts trying to install ubuntu on it

that’s when i lost it. like actually what are you doing? you’re on the clock, we’re behind, and you’re reinstalling your favorite OS instead of doing your job

He can't use the other operating system, he doesn't know how to use it, give the task to someone else or give him alot more time.
>>
>>108519603
You think that's what happens? Shit, he'll claim hostile work environment and get unemployment while he finds another job. Not to mention he's a freetard so he likely lives borderline monastic and has loads of savings. I always make sure that I've got enough saved up that I can say "fuck this place" if something happens to make my work life unpleasant to the point where I'm miserable.

And working with a bunch of cunts who literally won't install localsend so that ALL of you can "airdrop" to each other regardless of OS gives me a pretty good idea that there's two sides to this story. Though 99.9% chance this is engagement bait bullshit anyway and never happened.
>>
>>108521711
Good. I'm not the only one who thought "why the fuck didn't these retards just install localsend and call it a day?"
>>
>>108521486
This doesn't just apply to software or the gui, but even the language we speak to each other. People aren't taught reason in school, but they are told to vote, and that their opinion matters. It's all mind control. It's all bait for the worst parts of people.
>>
>>108519603

What’s the purpose of valves steam-cube?
If you can handle installing Linux, you can also put together mini-ITX PCs.

>>108520394
>mini-ITX PC
That thing is at most half the size of a mini-ITX. It's more comparable to a mini PC, which are notoriously unreliable. If valve can make a console the size of a mini PC that doesn't have a 50% chance of self-destructing in the first year, it'll at least have a valid niche for less graphically demanding games.
>>
>>108520667
Every single game they've released has been a huge success that has completely changed gaming.
>>
>>108520394
Genuinely, I already have a pretty decent gaming PC handed down for free.

Should I? I don't have a desk anymore and my gaming pc is just taking up space
>>
it was just meant to be a tiny black box that sat by your PC you could play PC games on no mess no hassle no fuss

small so fit anywhere
quiet not jet engine like that fucking ps5
PC games, steam all there
more powerful than steam deck so it didn't run like shit

that was it simple basic nothing fancy

and we'll never see it because of Scam fucking Fagman

I don't want to build my own steam box pc
I don't want to build an ITX pc hotbox that needs a 6 sided mesh case so it doesn't cook itself and is still gigantic
I don't want to buy a miniPC that 100% cooks itself to death in a year like they all do
I don't want to deal with looking after the OS fucking about with bazzite cachy windows or anything else

Do they? I know they do on their free tier, but this is on their website. https://protonvpn.com/torrenting they seem to be extremely positive about it.

I've only ever used it to avoid geoblocking, but no idea about torrenting.
>>
Just hop on private trackers and don't be a vpn cuck

How much money would you bet that biggest lobbyists of fines for copyright infringement via torrenting are those people who indirectly own or are invested in VPN companies?

There's no way (if it's a Linux distro) that it isn't a NASA specific Debian fork with an in-house repository.

Why did Apple decide to discontinue the Mac Pro instead of upgrading it with those ultra chips and crazy water cooling?

I mean, you see all these videos of peop overclocking the MacBook Neo with external cooling, so just think about how awesome it would be if the ULTRA chip had a massive 400mm water cooling block?

there was a rackmount version of the 2019 mac pro because apple caught video pros running server farms of hackintoshes.

the mac studio chassis serves the ultra well, and apple doesn't appear to be interested in making bigger, hotter chips at the moment
>>

Water cooling is air cooling with extra steps - so you may as well just use air cooling.
Heatpipes are more efficient and don't leak/break with time.

there is no equivalent to macs

macs have:
>soldered SSD/RAM/WLAN
doesnt exist on 99% of PCs
>when pajeetOS runs out of RAM it swapfile rapes the SSD to death within 3 years
doesnt exist on 99% of PCs
>when the SSD dies it bricks your entire currybook because the EFI is stored on the soldered SSD to save $0.05 on a dedicated chip
doesnt exist on 99% of PCs
>components serial numbered and tied to the motherboard to prevent repair and replacement (including battery)
doesnt exist on 99% of PCs
>riveted keyboard that requires total destruction of the chassis to replace
doesnt exist on 99% of PCs
>flexgate cables that are so brittle they crack from opening your screen past 90 degrees more than 2 dozen times
doesnt exist on 99% of PCs

Getting anything in the air us more expensive than on the ground. Pretty much the only expensive tech that makes sense is military radar or other dumb stuff. What are you going to do? Double sided tape a tablet to the bathroom wall?

The last thing you should put is anything modern. The less likely someone can access your stuff from outside the plane.
