Skip 2.5G and just get a used X520/530 10G NIC or X550 if you want RJ45 instead of SFP modules. They are dirt cheap my entire network is running on used 10G NICs, even switches and routers have come down significantly in price.

I need help planning a server. Budget is around 1.5k euros, could go higher if reasonable.
Main purpose is recording livestreams from several sites via avtdl and storing them locally, requiring a lot of storage space.
Picking hardware for it isn't the problem as it is basically just another NAS, but I'm not sure how to combine both tasks in one system.

It started out as a good thing but in true fashion humans have completely ruined it in just 20 years time.

I can't view a single website without dozens of ads completely blocking the screen and videos autoplaying in the background.

I visit forums for coding discussion and its full of third worlders asking retarded questions in broken english.

I visit social media and its all people fighting/arguing and girls showing off their fanny.

I try to sign in to any service and it takes 5 minutes to login. First you have to enter your username and password, then go find your phone for the text code (2fa) then you can finally login. Then it asks you if you would like to use a 4 digit pin code to login next (wtf?)

Shit doesnt even make any sense anymore.

I am here to declare that the internet is dying. Its basically already dead. There is no fixing it. The only question now is what comes next?

For now, I am leaving the internet. All it does is give me a headache now. Its not worth it.

Realistically most people use Google Docs nowadays, but for an offline office suite these two are the best.

Libreoffice came first before onlyoffice i think and onlyoffice isnt packaged in most distros. WPS is the proprietary one right? Depending on what hes trying to do libreoffice might be better to use and more accessible. But i usually just use abiword and gnumeric whenever i need to use office-related stuff (mainly spreadsheets)

I'm running CachyOS (KDE,) and sometimes after I log in, after about 20 seconds it switches to a GUI login screen on tty1.
What causes this? I can switch back to what I was doing with ctl-alt-f2 but it's just weird and annoying.

Why isn't image modification ever seriously discussed here? I know there are a bunch of removemaxxingfags around that obsess over process count like some Unix autist but that shouldn't discount the whole principle.

Also image modifications is an officially supported method for custom installs in enterprise environments, you can fairly easily do any modifications using only MS tools, though injecting GPOs is certainly harder than it should be.

There's not anything present in a default LTSC install that you couldn't do with a modified enterprise image in 10 mins. Also even regular Enterprise gets 3y security updates on any given feature release so stability isn't really a reason and MS is actually providing tools to stop install of unwanted components during feature updates like the group policy to disable particular ProvisionedAppXPackages (though this will only be released to GAC with/after 25H2).

Yeah. I suggested that to him, but it's going to take a while to do that since he isn't the type that keeps regular backups of his stuff.
Even if a reinstall doesn't solve the problems, it would at least rule out any driver issues. I've always thought that reinstalling Windows after replacing a motherboard was part of the procedure.

I will never forgive kiwiNIGGERS for getting him to delete his online presence
I used to watch his daily dev update posts on mastodon, where he would post updates on Ares, Hare and his side projects (linux kernel clone, minecraft clone)

The OSA is getting worse. So much worse. Now all Brits will be blocked from viewing "self-harm/suicide" content even if they are verified as 18+.

If they apply these laws liberally, then we could end up with a bizarre scenario where people in the UK can no longer listen to a song that romanticises suicide (so a significant portion of rock/alternative music), or watch a film/play a video game that features a suicide/self-harm scene.

If I want art, I’ll just use AI. The truth is most people don’t actually feel anything from “modern art” anymore — the market is so oversaturated that genuine emotional attachment is rare.

Art only matters when it resonates with you personally. Out of everything I’ve ever seen, I’d only pay for two artists: one because his story hit me, and another because his style was the first time I understood what “art” meant.

Everything else just blends together into noise. Without that emotional spark, it’s just another pretty picture in an endless sea of pretty pictures. And that’s why most people don’t care, and definitely won’t pay.
