Nope, I have both a T480 and T480s and the s is much less flexy even though it's thinner.

Mostly. Apart from the second RAM slot the T480 can take bigger batteries. Replacement keyboards are easier to source for T480s.

Like the other poster said, you do. If it fails, you can disable it, but only by unsoldering some jumpers or flashing a modded BIOS externally.

Different capacitor types have different lifespans. The electrolytic capacitors that you might find inside of a computer power supply can and usually do start to go bad starting at the 5ish year mark. Capacitors with liquid dielectrics eventually leak.
