It was written by a techlet throwing buzzword around every other sentence. I get that boomers were impressed by it, but reading all of that shit in this day and age is actually painful if you're even a bit familiar with technology.

Still, tech was advancing so fast, it should have been clear that this would be a small amount soon. But Gibson admittedly knew nothing about computers then.

If you have money, wait for the Steam Frame. It's basically a Steam Deck but a super comfy VR headset.
If you have LOTS of money, get something like the Apple Vision Pro or Galaxy XR.

FTR, on lmarena there's a new "secret" txt2img model called sumo, people here:
https://linux.do/t/topic/1379694
argue it's from XAi because of its replies in image format to direct inquiries. This is the same prompt as above in this sumo model, weird saluki ears are the most noticeable defect? It takes more at heart the "slender yet curvaceous, boasting a full chest, narrow waist, and defined hips that create a striking silhouette" part of the format. NBP loves to ignore it.

Don't buy anything OTHER THAN IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad T, X, and W/P Series if you want the Real Business Experience™

Why ThinkPad?
>Used machines are plentiful and cheap

damn :(
I was actually going to send it back until I realised both T480 and T480s are 14 inch screens which is what I care about most in terms of size. I guess T480 is a fatter laptop overall which makes it sturdier and easier to fix/upgrade? I don't have soldered RAM, confirmed with dmidecode.

>I guess T480 is a fatter laptop overall which makes it sturdier and easier to fix/upgrade?
Correct, but not by much
>I don't have soldered RAM, confirmed with dmidecode.
You CANNOT determine that with dmidecode. If it is a T480s, it HAS soldered RAM
>>
>>107710968
>which makes it sturdier
Nope, I have both a T480 and T480s and the s is much less flexy even though it's thinner.
>and easier to fix/upgrade
Mostly. Apart from the second RAM slot the T480 can take bigger batteries. Replacement keyboards are easier to source for T480s.
>I don't have soldered RAM
Like the other poster said, you do. If it fails, you can disable it, but only by unsoldering some jumpers or flashing a modded BIOS externally.

I don't get it, why aren't people upgrading your RIG now if you know you'll need to replace it within the next 5 years? Even consoles are going up in price, steam machine is looking to be near $1k and PS5 Pro is $700 for console and prob another $150 for peripherals.

Generational leaps in graphics aren't really gonna happen anymore and the 5090/4090 might last for a decade.

Different capacitor types have different lifespans. The electrolytic capacitors that you might find inside of a computer power supply can and usually do start to go bad starting at the 5ish year mark. Capacitors with liquid dielectrics eventually leak.

The smaller, surface mounted ceramic capacitors, aka the little tan ones you see on almost everything else like memory, graphics cards, and cpus, can last very very long. What might reduce that very long lifespan is usually limited to poor design in the circuits that use them.

I barely upgraded from a GTX 1080 weeks ago

If capacitors are going bad in stuff you bought 5 years ago you're either buying the lowest quality crap imaginable or all your shit's overheating to hell and back, that ages capacitors really badly.

The "bubble" won't burst because it's not a bubble per se, you're still thinking of these companies as corporations chasing profit instead of another arm of the globalist elites. Just like military and the deep state, it won't "fail", they'll simply pump infinite money into it because your masters have decided they need AI to enact their mass surveillance dream. You will be unhappy, impoverished, and controlled, and the entire AI industry will forever run at a loss because its aim is to fuck you over, not to turn a profit. I'm sorry, but there won't be more vidya for you. You better hope that their strategy of taking out the population's panem et circense blows up in their faces, otherwise you're gonna be enslaved for a long time in a neo-feudalistic hellhole.

You're correct about their real bottom line, but the AI bubble bursting is not only compatible with this bottom line but also helpful to it. When the bubble bursts, everyone will become poorer except for a handful of the too-big-to-fails. Ask GoyGPT to list the obvious precedents involving housing and banks, I'm too lazy.

It's been a few years since its birth, and many people in tech have made similar decisions, mostly because they struggle to find other options. Over the years they have seen this combination of two different worlds nurtured, and regret, anger, relief, and many emotions ensued

Is it worth it, /g/?
