I *think* op just works hard to keep schizo shut-ins away from iphones, that's the only reason to consistently start the thread with a apple support forum digest framed as a fake news piece

for 66 dollars you are better off scrounging ebay for an old laptop that has a 1tb drive in it and just taking that out. bonus free spare laptop if you find the right deal.
if you want real hard drive deals, ebay refurbished is the way to go. goharddrive is also very reputable for refurbished units and they have a 5y warranty.

It was just some random shit from bundles. I'm fairly sure it was just a visual glitch though as it's never happened before and the difference is about what VAT would have been.
Anyway it is kinda annoying, but it's mostly stuff I was gonna get anyway and it was still slightly cheaper than getting it outside of the bundle page. I'll try complaining about VAT not being included in the checkout price, but if I don't get any compensation it's not the end of the world.

I don't even care about the OS, for laptops, their hardware is the peakest of peaks.
I'm full Android/Linux at this point after being a macfag for over a decade, and I have to say I much prefer that software. But my macbook air m1? I can't seem to be able to get rid of it, I just changed its battery and went on a video binge over 2 days, 11 fucking hours.
Nothing touches it. Not even close.
>>
>>107694977
True, true, hardware is excellent. The M-series processors are as fast as the fastest CPUs from AMD. Built quality is unmatched. Screens, speakers are extremely good. The keyboard is acceptable, a bit low travel but tactile enough. At least they reverted back from the butterfly keyboard fiasco. Port selection could be better, but nothing that can't be solved with the right TB dongle.

Software-wise, macOS is meh. It's getting slower, more bloated, and buggier with each release. Since Big Sur or Catalina, I don't think they have added ANYTHING genuinely useful, and they have taken away plenty, like being able to run 32-bit applications, which means a large amount of Steam games no longer work. All the containerization and security stuff gets on your nerves sometimes. You have to dance around the security tab all the time while installing apps and ask for permissions constantly. Maybe it's to save normies from shitware, but I wish there was a "relax, I know what I'm doing" setting that made it a bit less stringent.

Is this shitpost from LinkedIn? It is inundated with self-glorifying, humble-bragging between corporate drones. Boilerplate glow-ups and dick sucking. Companies themselves are guilty of every single point in this man's post: they take credit for other people's work, they are easily bored with technical discussions that have no corporate buzzwords, they are overly sensitive to criticism to the point of being petty and vindictive, they try to eliminate/offshore as many positions as possible and depress compensation, and they do not fucking care about their employees. I am not a zoomer, but I have no problem with zoomers taking advantage of this shitty system that rewards grifting and nepotism. This is just late stage capitalism: you reap what you sow. Why should anyone be loyal and hardworking for a parasitic corporation? Accelerate.

try debian, it is the best simply because it's a distribution that doesn't try to babysit you like fedora, but is very independent (very minded distro) and stable, meaning you don't need to babysit it as you do with arch. besides the big repos and its lts nature, deb gives you space and peace of mind to learn (about everything) at your own pace, and be comfortable while doing so.

be carefull tho, if you dont align to its proposals it can be a pain, you need to know some workarounds to get new software and for emulation/games, there are videos around teaching them. try it out on live and use the netinstall if youre going to install.

would you still recommend it if i plan to install more up to date nvidia drivers than what 13 stable comes with? i know people tend to have opinions on stuff like backports
>>
>>107694403
>how big of a problem is snaps really?
Not a huge problem desu. It's just hard to recommend Ubuntu when Linux Mint is similar in many ways but doesn't pull this kind of shit. It's not about Ubuntu being super terrible, it's about there being a better alternative.
>>
>>107694581
Not that anon, but in my experience installing stuff from backports works fine. It's running a frankendebian, not backports, that requires more experience and willingness to debug.

Ew, I'd rather gurgle NEET girl spit who hasn't brushed her teeth in ages.

Fellow software engineers, what's your plan for the next 5-10 years?
I wasn't worried until Sonnet & Opus 4.5 but it genuinely one shots everything I give it. We went from doing 30 story points (team of 4) to 60 per sprint after the release.
The writing is on the wall, software engineering will be the first white collar job to be automated.
What do we do afterwards?

Any version of Windows since 1995 has been more polished, production-ready and user-friendly than any Linux distro ever made. That's obvious to anybody who has installed both of them on the same machine.

Are Linux users just lying about their distros being a better experience than a Windows installation?

It's true in many cases.
Programming is better on Linux than on anything else because you have real native Docker available (not the hacky VM shitware that is "docker desktop").
HTPC gaming with Bazzite is better than any HTPC running Windows.

>>
>>107689887
I have a linux box right here that didn't update in two years and i don't feel the update it.
On another box i skipped updates for also two years, then though "yeah, i guess i update today" and did it and it just works.

Updating on Linux is a complete non-issue.
It only becomes risky if you are on a bleeding edge rolling release distro, since you do not have any stable point in time.
But if you chose such a distro, you know what you are in for.

There is a greater incentive to ensure security for Linux as it's more important infrastructure than a macOS computer. A budget is not necessary as a lot is free and open source that even Apple has greatly benefited from.
