>try macOSWeird scaling since Big Sur, Settings menu has bipolar disorder, all the good widgets cost actual physical money >try Windowseleven different design languages in one, and they're not even trying to pretend that Windows Shell can work on anything slower than a quantum supercomputer (see NVIDIA documentation on Windows increasingly requiring more GPU resources just to idle), and the animations aren't even good enough to justify it >try Xfce/LXQt/LXDE/Budgie/Cinnamon/Deepin/etc.Dogshit Xorg DE is dogshit, anything without Wayland on a Unix-like system is a meme >try GNOMEInherently un-ergonomic design, GTK weirdness, it looks really good though - have to give them that >Le window manager with a Waybar shell!!They made five for Niri and not a single one allows you to adjust drawing tablet sensitivity without having to edit a .txt config (WMs don't come with text editors preinstalled and you have to manually set file extension associations)I've tried them all, I've even tried ReactOS, yet I keep coming back to KDE Plasma, it is ergonomic, it is lightweight as fuck, it is so customizable I gave up on it halfway through because I couldn't decide how I wanted my desktop to look, it has proper fractional Wayland scaling support, it is the most mature with HDR thus far through Kwin, you can turn it into a tiling window manager with one script, how did the Germans do this? Is this the best desktop GUI in the history of desktop GUIs?

Weve entered a stagnation. Everything thats out now was invented in 20th century. Even ai, the algorithms for it were literally talked about in 5l60s but didnt have the commute to execute them. Turing test. Hard drives. Touch screens. You thought steve jobs invented touch screens for iphones. Nope its 80s military tech. So that leaves the question. Can /g/ name ONE, thats 1, tech thats 21st century exclusive AND doesnt use computers? Doubt you can. 21st century has had 0 innovation in technology. >social mediaGo kill urself
>>106872319Yes, but more tech and AI nonsense won’t help that. It’s all just wealth problem. You live in hundred year old wood hut because you can’t afford to bulldoze over it and build some futuristic building over it, and because you don’t want to because most modern things are of lower durability thanks to planned obsolescence infecting every nanometer of our society, and because the sci fi architecture looks ugly in real life. At least in back to the future they still had old building everywhere and just had flying cars, hologram billboards (something we have) and cyborgs (something we also have to much lesser extent and most people don’t really want)

Welcome to the 4Chan /g usenet group Thread!>What is /usenet/?Open standard protocols still exist and are what the internet was built on(http, irc, rss, ftp, etc). TNot owned by corpos, not undergovt control, and are accessible to anyone with an internet connection. They simply exist to be built upon and enjoyedby all. Some, like FTP are outdated and insecure. Others, like rss, irc, http, usenet are still glorious and wonderful open standards . Join us and discuss such topics on one such protocol:NNTP, aka usenet.Comment too long. For me it's alt.fan.adolf-hitler
People keep bringing up age-ism, and I qualitfy as old, so I feel compelled to chime in. In being introduced to Usenet here for the first time, I have been thinking how: I actually don't want to talk in an echo chamber of like-minded old-fogie peers. I like being surprised and challenged by new perspectives, it keeps the mind sharp. I personally don't get really worked up over mole hills which others seem to make into mountains. To me, being exposed to new things is more valuable than being put off by minor differences. Usually if somebody isn't solely a smartphone drone, and are cool enough to use something like IRC or usenet etc, they are already a cool person. The rest are naturally filtered, as has been noted, and will just keep squeaking into their preschool toy walled garden echo chambers.

You can’t even create separate homescreen pages to hide or show. Each have their pros and cons, iPhone just being "status symbols" is wrong, it is true I feel like a poorfag now though.

Almost everyove knows that JPEG files can be encoded to enable several progressive steps of rendering, so that the incomplete file on its early stages of downloading is seen as blurry. When the information of luminosity comes before the colors, such early image can also be decoded as gray or greenish (see the attached PNG; see also https://cloudinary.com/blog/progressive_jpegs_and_green_martians for the explanation). Modern versions of web browsers actually avoid this weird colours by suppressing decoding until both colour components arrive from the Web.When a JPEG is not progressive, it is designed to render from top to bottom. All that makes me think once again about the AVIF files. There are experiments of making them progressive (you can run “avifenc” with “--progressive”), but by default an AVIF is so much non-progressive that it does not render (even from top to bottom) until fully downloaded. But what if an incomplete AVIF were, in fact, rendered? What would we see then?Would the pixels come in the same “from top to bottom” order, but in blocks of different sizes?Would the pixels come in weird colours because the chroma comes after the luma?Comment too long. >>106872911Interpolating frames would be million times heavier and would require external application. Encoded stream is compressed and why it's efficient - it's the same as an archive. If you mess up something in between it'll corrupt.
>>106872911Boomer, these days we have thumbnails and then use AI to upscale it as a preview.
>>106872911It would depend on image tiling implementation. If 100KB 4K res AVIF images are too brutal of a payload for our curry friends then it's possible that websites would reduce tile sizes and break up that 4K 100KB AVIF beast into 30 ~3KB 512x512 individual images and load those. I assume these would then load from top to bottom in a 56kbps internet connection.Other than that AVIF's unusually good perceptual quality at 0.1 to 0.2 BPP makes progressive rendering obsolete even at 1Mbps especially if the image res is more reasonable like 720p which most blogs would want to use anyway.
