my main computer blew up and I've been using an old i3 with 4GB of ram for the past couple of weeks
I''ve got windows 10 and visual studio 2026
it slows to a crawl every now and then
obviously I have to keep the number of tabs on the browser to a minimum, but that's actually good for my mental hygiene, I suppose. I can't really multitask on this pc, if I'm programming I can barely open a couple of tabs on the side
all in all, not terrible
I can't wait to get a new monster pc, though. fuck mental hygiene lol

um akshually that "good gateway" is a HP ProLiant Server. It may run a GNU+Linux or BSD Operating System that makes it a gateway (no, Windows Internet Security & Acceleration Server does not count because it clearly says nginx) but it is not a hardware-specific network device. Furthermore, nginx is not a gateway per-se but a web server and reverse proxy, though it can be comfortably used as a lightweight API gateway. These millennial zoomers will never understand that gateways translate protocols between incompatible networks so we can run SPX, IPX and NetBEUI as IBM and 3COM intended across our coax thicknet hubs.

Not really sure why you pointed me at the NLA, since that only seems to be an issue with Remote Desktop, but the FDResPub deciding to turn itself off regularly was funny. Firewall was just as I left it, blocking anything that doesn't come from my 192.168.50.x router pool. FDResPub being set to automatically kill itself appears to have been the issue. Changed it to automatically start and restart itself, and added a dependancy for Workstation which I saw people online recommending. Now the rest of the network sees the server again.
I'm a bit confused as to why Windows Server didn't automatically set FDResPub to be full-time when I specifically told Windows Server it was going to be acting as a network file server, but I've learned to stop seeking logic in the workings of Microsoft.

Docker absolutely has features to make all that happen, but I find it more cumbersome than just deploying a production ready set of prometheus and cert-manager resources with few commands. For me k8s has been the obvious choice for my servers after I bothered trying it out, before that I used docker swarm because k8s seemed daunting - which it really is not, it is beautifully designed and simple. And I do have concerns of scaling in the future when it comes to my servers, the userbase is growing slowly but surely, sure you can just add more CPU and RAM to a single server but spreading those compute resources across multiple servers has redundancy benefits which I personally do like.
>>
>>107730462
I didn't switch out NetworkManager for wpa_supplicant (yet?); that would use less memory, I think.

>>107730480
I could do something like that for headless usage. In the past I used the GUI, but no longer. All those gigabytes going towards GUI software could be used for a larger swapfile instead (if that helps and doesn't harm). Or, I could setup Arch Linux but quit before installing anything I don't need like a DE. Probably not much difference between server Ubuntu and said Arch setup.
>>
>>107730494
>but spreading those compute resources across multiple servers has redundancy benefits which I personally do like.
But you're not doing that. You might never do that. That's a premature optimisation.
>>
>>107730516
>That's a premature optimisation.
Which isn't a problem in this case because I personally prefer k8s in production anyways. You can keep using docker or podman, not my problem, but my own experience is exactly what I described in my earlier post: once I tried k8s I never looked back, single or multi node doesn't matter.

How can you realistically get hacked from using an outdated OS if you're behind a firewall? All those meme vids of "computer hacked after 10 seconds of connecting XP to the internet" involve turning off he firewall, from what I heard. If the firewall is on what is the realistic attack vector where you get hacked because of an unpatched weakness in the OS? Outdated browser maybe, but that goes for any OS. Is browser security worse on an outdated OS?

What better way to keep X going than to implement it in another meme language with barely any support or userbase!
>>
>>107727870
well X was being "maintained" by red hat so making a fork of it when there's an officially supported version wouldn't have made much sense since nobody was going to use it, even if everyone who pays attention knew red hat was intentionally trying to kill it. As soon as they stopped pretending to maintain it xlibre made sense so now we have that. This zig bullshit is probably just some autist rewriting shit in a memelang for no good reason but if anything actually happens with it there's a good chance it's some corpo sabotage embrace extend extinguish bullshit
>>
>>107727972
Someone probably hacked together a c2zig transpiler and/or use AI, and they’re going to go at it that way. Same scheming behaviour that Rust proponents used.
Anyone attempting such a stupid project doesn’t understand the first principles of how to go about accomplishing anything worthwhile.
>>
>>107726729
>>107727522
>>107727689
>>107727972
It's not a "rewrite," it's a new implementation of X11. Calling it a rewrite is like calling Chrome a rewrite of Firefox because they both implement web standards, or calling Linux a rewrite of BSD because they both implement POSIX. It'll be backwards compatible with basically all X11 programs while dropping support for hardware older than 15-20 years and niche features that don't make sense anymore.
>>107728016
The dev made GPU screen recorder, he's at least somewhat competent. Also AI barely even works for Zig because the language changes so much and the new features aren't in LLM's training data.

# projectoranon
For anons who are also interested like me in chink projectors I found these great resources:

https://www.projector-database.com/
Has all the projectors models including the cheap obscure chink ones

https://www.reddit.com/r/budgetprojectors/
Subreddit dedicated to chink projectors.

So to be clear so far I have used a Gaimoo GM200 for 2 years. I bought it like 80€, price has dropped since then to approx 50€. The image quality is good enough for me but I'm not the kind of guy who watched bdrips on 4K TVs my whole life, expect Playstation 3 output video quality. Also after 2 years of use the top left corner of the screen is a bit blurry (yes I cleaned the lens several times, problem persists) and the fan has been making horribly loud noises (only at startup for 2 mins then it's relatively quiet). Finally le GM200 has dog shit ANSI Lumen (80 LOL) and that's precisely why I wanna upgrade since I cannot see shit unless its total darkness in my appartment.
https://www.projector-database.com/pro/gaimoogm200-en.html

I just bought the Wimius P62 Pro on Amazon (had an amazon giftcard to spend that my boss gave me), will arrive on saturday, will keep you updated.
