Pretty much. I don't mind them, and in fact respect the tech in some cases, but 99% of the time there's something comperable for far less in cost.

Who is this dogshit piece of shit for? Who asked for it? Why would I want to install it? Even worse, why would I not want to uninstall it on preinstalled computer?
Are people at Microsoft even aware that they just killed themselves with one simple move where people actively downgrade or switch to other OS just to NOT be at Win11? They think they hold monopoly or what?

Because they do. They have insane lock in. You don't realize how many people rely on adobe or office or some game with anti cheat or SOMETHING. It only takes one thing and then it's much easier to stay on win11 than to do anything else. MS has been shittifying windows for a long time now and nothing happened to their market share. Look at how they're acting, they don't care what you think.

It works transparently with BeOS, nothing needs to be rewritten if it adheres to the BeOS+3D APIs.

My main programming language is Clojure, which is best supported in Emacs and IntelliJ. Vim and even VSC support is lackluster.

Also, elisp is a better config language than what any other editor has to offer.
>>
>>107701513
the bottleneck in emacs isn't in elisp, but in the overall architecture. emacs, at the core, is single-threaded, its gc is very basic and the display engine is a weird mashup between a terminal and gui.

win7 came out at a time when macOS was actually good, canonical was making the first moves toward linux being not-a-joke and microsoft's own misfires were starting to pile up so they had to buckle down and make an actually good OS to save face, this was back when windows was still their flagship
now they are an AI slop and cloud computing company so they have just stopped caring about windows, they release new versions of it to maintain kayfabe and pretend that they haven't been coasting on a de facto monopoly since the 90s. they do not care what their jeet slaves and female affirmative action hires do with windows because they aren't allowed to touch the slowly-rotting critical parts of the OS like the kernel. all that matters is that a bunch of shit was changed so they can put a version number on it and ship it out

I've been getting work through Upwork, and though the volume of work coming my way dropped significantly after ChatGPT worldwide release, the clients I do have are paying me more than ever because they appreciate the human touch.
In the future, the only surefire way to avoid AI slop articles will be to avoid Forbes, CNN, etc. to read an article; you will follow the writer you like and are interested in and read his work.

So I just need to do basic tasks like listen to music, stream video, and browse basic websites. Is installing windows 2000 a bad idea? How fucked will I be for drivers?

The reason I want to do this for one, it's botnet free, and two it was the most streamlined of classic operating systems. I really have a boner for Windows 2000 and I just want to know if it's even moderately viable to use in this day and age.

Perfectly viable with the right hardware, which's much harder to come by than plain XP-ready hardware that's fast enough for modern use, and that's why I recomnend POSReady 2009 instead; it's XP but you can choose to install none of the junk so it operates more or less like Win2k.

I liked my HP Victus 15. Numpad is the correct size and the arrow keys are a bit bigger than normal, but the normal keys feel noticably shifted to the left. I also liked my Asus TUF A16. Smaller numpad and arrow keys, but it feels a bit more centered, bigger and more colorful screen (16:10), and you can get it in a lot of versions (all AMD, AMD+Nvidia, Intel+Nvidia). The Victus has a nicer feel, plastic but pleasant. HP Omen of you want to go a price bracket up. Newer A16's have fullsize arrow keys but a small right shift and the arrows are farther away from right control.

Windows' file system is bad at handling lots of tiny files, which emacs relies upon heavily. In earlier Windows versions you could tweak the registry setting NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation for a performance boost (at the price of backwards compatibility), I do not know if this is still relevant in Win11.

The following zsh snippet created a FS bookmarks widget accessible with ctrl-B. It runs commands listed in a file. The first command in the file should be "<editor> /path/to/file", as this is the only reliable way I have found to remove entries from the file by matching the pwd. Use 'ba' to add the pwd to the file. You will be prompted to provide a description, which means that this widget requires interactive comments to be enabled. Each bookmark reads like 'pushd "/path/to/dir" # Description of Bookmark'. Using 'bm' or pressing ctrl-b will open up a list of directories added to the list of bookmarks. "bl" will list bookmarks.
bm() {
cat "$HOME/.config/bkms/bm.zsh" | fzf | source /dev/stdin
}

bm-widget() {
bm
zle reset-prompt
}
zle -N bm-widget

ba() {
local bookmarks="$HOME/.config/bkms/bm.zsh"
local dir="$(pwd)"
local desc

I won't be low key, either. It's literally this easy to make a zle widget where you select arbitrary commands from a list, and bind it to a key. Whatever thing you want to have a bunch of a commands already hashed out for, you can basically make your own cheat.sh for it, but it's the specific commands you need.

some-function() {
cat some_file | fzf | source /dev/stdin
}

some-function-widget() {
some-function
zle reset-prompt
}
zle -N some-widget
bindkey -v <key> some-function-widget
>>
>>107706119
you could even have fzf select a match for a case statement which then selects the list of commands. So, you'd have categories. Make backspace feed the list back into fzf w/ reload-sync(...), and you can go back and forth between the list of categories and whatever list of commands
