some appimages don't include all required dependencies and won't work on a minimal install or if one of these dependency is newer than what the appimage expects (eg ICU). it's a good concept but not just works anywhere like flatpak.

also forgot to add that most appimages still use fuse2 instead of fuse3

>he thinks 5v is negotiated in the connector.
Do you see how the connector is soldered to the board? Disregard the autism cube. There isn't any space to add a pd trigger board, let alone use the same cutout. Even moreso using a pd trigger board to negotiate 5V is immensely retarded when it can be done with two resistors. As is, this thing can only charge with something that'll feed it 5V as would happen with a usb-c to usb-A cable ("legacy"), but it can't negotiate 5V out from a usb-c source. Replacing the connector won't solve anything. And this board being an aluminium heatsink it's going to be an absolute bitch to solder to.

it's for buying shit I don't immediately need but I can sort of see a use for in the future. THough I can point to at least four or five things that I've to be far better(or equivalent) than anything comparable on other marketplaces. One of them gets daily use and I'm not sure anything exists like it on amazon/ebay/etc.
I wish I could just buy the extended bits for other drivers I own.

remember AA batteries? AAA batteries? rechargeable AA batteries?
we already had standardized batteries and they took it from us. There is no reason that we can't have standardized lithium ion batteries in all rechargeable consumer electronics. We don't need custom batteries for vape pens.
imagine how much easier the logistics for recycling batteries would become.
it's the same thing as car parts no longer being standardized.

Reminder of the following:

1. Google will merge ChromeOS and Android to form a FOSS Linux-based desktop OS that will be 100% free to download and use.

https://www.androidauthority.com/aluminium-os-android-for-pcs-3619092/

2. Windows will be severely affected by this new, totally free competitor and will bleed marketshare.

3. All existing Linux desktop environments will be totally outclassed by Google's top secret desktop UI and underlying OS. Even Linux users will give up on shit like Mint and just use Google's desktop for their daily driver OS.

2026 will finally be the year of the Linux desktop, and it will be because Google will do to desktops what they did to phones.

You know it's coming. Don't act like this was a surprise.

How do you access ext3 or ext4 partitions from windows 10?

i used Ext2fsd which is a small program that can be ran as a service and automounts your filesystem in read only mode to the drive letter of your choice.

i hadn't used windows in a while and after a reinstall it doesn't seem to work anymore.

It can see my partition, tries to mount it but when i click on the drive in windows explorer it says "you need to format the drive before you use it" then when i choose "no" it says "the volume does not contain a recognized filesystem.

windows can't into Ext partitions anymore? how is this even acceptable?

What exactly is the point of libreboot?
29 replies and 2 images omitted. Click here to view.
>>
>>107696983
It could've been done under a different name besides libreboot. But this has lead to the situation we're in now.
If anything, libreboot should assume the role of the devil and warn people about the cost of using nonfree firmware and microcode updates. That way, it teaches people how to value freedom, as well as what ways they can do to resolve the situation:
>accept or reject the deal with the devil; accepting may be the only way to remove the existing proprietary BIOS/UEFI on newer machines, which in itself is moving up the freedom ladder
>complain to the hardware manufacturers. while this may have limited impact, getting your complaints on record helps
>document experiences. write a blog about using the hardware with libreboot/canoeboot/whatever and tell people what works, what doesn't, so that people are informed about the hardware and given more transparency over what they're getting if they buy this hardware
>>
>>107701076
I think you're getting some of the details mixed up. Although she accused the FSF of transphobia, Rowe was actually one of Stallman's defenders when other people were accusing him of transphobia and telling him to step down.

>there is no way that devices like the X230 or T480 will ever, ever, ever, be able to run without some proprietary firmware.

Wrong. T480 is the best target to have a fully libre system, more so than a T400. With the exploit the deguard utility uses it's possible to run unsigned code in ME and load unsigned microcode.

https://libreboot.org/docs/install/t480.html#absolutely-unsigned-intel-me

>One of the benefits of deguard for Intel MEv11 is that it sets the ME in such a state where you can run unsigned code in there. This is how the Intel Boot Guard was disabled, because it is the ME that enforces such restrictions; more information about deguard is available on a dedicated page.

>The deguard utility could also be used to enable the red-unlock hack, which would permit unsigned execution of new CPU microcode, though much more research is needed. Because of these two facts, this makes the T480/T480s the most freedom-feasible of all relatively modern x86 laptops.

>With deguard, you have complete control of the flash. This is unprecedented on recent Intel systems in Libreboot, so it’s certainly a very interesting port!

Yes, you can accomplish those same features by other means, but I use them with lf because it's more comfortable to use for (me) and I've been doing it that way for years. If (you) prefer using a different method then good for you, having different options is cool. Again, I just prefer lf because for me it feels quicker to use, and you get more visual feedback compared to cd'ing your way into a certain directory.
>>107699319
lf is kind of like the spiritual successor to ranger, which was popular many years ago, it's almost a 1:1 recreation of the latter, so if you used it before you might like lf as well. yazi and other similar ones are just their own spin on the terminal file manager idea, buy I think all of them can to basically the same things.
