I really can't understand why they wouldn't just make the whole phone thicker for both aesthetics and functionality, like a larger battery or something.

If real, this is the ugliest design they ever came up with...
>Why
Product designers are degenerated fags who live in their own world far away from reality, just like these useless fashion designers who create ugly cloths that nobody would ever want to wear.
>>
>>106404125
activist shareholders would probably riot if that was seriously proposed
>>
>>106404186
This. A factory in the USA would mean that you have to pay livable wages to everyone, unlike 3rd world factories.
>>
>>106404125
The know-how of actually manufacturing things en masse is gone. So are the supply chains. And the workers.
Building an iphone factory in the US would require 20 years of catching up to Chinese standards.

Yes, too expensive and the Americans are on average very stupid, also doesn't make the profit their share holders want to see or else the US has to bring back slavery.

There was nothing left to improve in phone design. But capitalism requires eternal "innovation".
If you have to change the design, but can't improve it, the only way left is to make it worse.
>>
>>106404220

technology much like the automobile has reached it's apex and has stagnated.
Same goes for AI, it just hit the apex and stagnated much quicker than previous tech.

all the people asked for was a new SE so they don't panic when they drop a $1400 phone in the toilet.

flagship phones are just portable movie studios anyway, catering to their customer base of modern women who have embarked on illustrious careers of selling pictures of their cunt and asshole online.

The lead designer at Apple left his position and they filled his role with some random exec with no experience in design. This was in 2020. It was supposed to be temporary but he's just...stayed there.
>>
>>106404125
No, people make cars in indiana all the time.
Apple can’t do that though because car factories are unironically more advanced and automated than the chink finger sweatshops apple has become addicted to.
China is also blocking the travel visas of any Foxconn employees who travel to India or wherever so Applel is being held captive by China far more than they let on to their shareholders.

nothing new saar.
It has started happening even since Steve Jobs advertised that all touch, no keyboard displays are what everyone needs. People being dumb bought that white man's ad and since no one was buying any other kinds of phones(Nokia had to die to prove this exact point), those kind of phones are the only ones we have available now that offer decent functionality.
It took us this long to realize how much he fucked us over by making the consumers settle on what he sells instead of allowing them to look out for what would actually fit their lifestyle and needs on the market.
>>
>>106404125
they'd rather pay couple of cents in some shithole for production than homegrown labor with full wages that's how fucked things are currently

You can't fill many less-desirable jobs when more-desirable alternatives exist (more pay, easier conditions, or just welfare). You need to locate those jobs somewhere that MAKES them desirable.
Across India and China, a billion people have these options: (1) stay in a village and farm for survival-level income with no advancement, or (2) go to a factory for low-ish income and a chance of advancement: $2/hr hunched over an assembly line is a GOOD JOB.
In the US, no one will work minimum wage in unsafe conditions doing body-contorting manufacturing when they could get a "fake job", be a marketing intern, and make above minimum wage sitting at a desk. $2/hr hunched over an assembly line is a BAD JOB.

This touches on that and more. Is worth a read:
https://www.molsonhart.com/blog/america-underestimates-the-difficulty-of-bringing-manufacturing-back
>Chinese manufacturing labor isn’t just cheaper. It’s better.
>
>In China, there are no people who are too fat to work. The workers don’t storm off midshift, never to return to their job. You don’t have people who insist on being paid in cash so that they can keep their disability payments, while they do acrobatics on the factory floor that the non-disabled workers cannot do.
>
>Chinese workers are much less likely to physically attack each other and their manager. They don’t take 30 minute bathroom breaks on company time. They don’t often quit because their out-of-state mother of their children discovered their new job and now receives 60% of their wages as child support. They don’t disappear because they’ve gone on meth benders. And they don’t fall asleep on a box midshift because their pay from yesterday got converted into pills.
>
>Sadly, what I describe above are not theoretical situations. These are things that I have experienced or seen with my own eyes. It’s fixable, but the American workforce needs great improvement in order to compete with the world’s, even with tariffs.
>>
>>106404125
For the same reasons that your military couldn't just boycott Chinese rare earths even if the US and Japan have their own underground.
But it would be better if you figure it out yourself so you don't end up like those boomers in Washington.

At $50k a head, it would be comically cheap to ensure the min wage never advances past federal, and that pesky labor organizers can be disappeared.

>has seen bad American employees
>assumes all American employees are like that
>has not seen bad Chinese employees
>assumes every Chinese is a 100% efficient worker
I guarantee you that statistically there's probably as many bad Chinese employees as there are American ones, just due to human nature and them having 3x our population. It may be higher, due to their cultural differences
Also, to try and claim there's no fat Chinese is absolutely disingenuous

Pick and place was never optimized for the electronics assembly world because chink sweatshop fingers were cheaper and swamped the market.
Auto stayed in house (mostly) and is unironically more advanced and roboticized than electronics assembly because it never got dragged down by slave-wage labor.

No, those fancy robo-trolleys you see in tech industries promo videos are from semiconductor plants and aren’t representative of what it’s actually like on the foxconn floor.

The factory can only fabricate rectangles. With a wedge shape the front and back would still be rectangles but each side would have to be a single piece with gradually changing thickness.
