I've always wondered, do any of you prefer 4chan's index view over using the catalog? I like it because it feels less overwhelming, especially on the faster boards. Plus it makes me read threads I would have otherwise ignored.

yes? Of course I hide all the threads I'm not interested in seeing and use 4chan x to get infinite scrolling and hide stubs for hidden threads. But as long as you do that it's pretty comfy and gives you a good summary of what's going on on the board.

I have only been using the catalog since ~2015, when i started to lurk sometimes around /pol/ back then

Now i usually lurk on /g/ and on /biz/ by using only and only the catalog
