This is how you know OpenBSD is the best because that's how literally EVERY Open Source project, be it Linux, a BSD fork, or just some random Open Source software or app works but they only bring it up as a criticism for the one and only certified glowie-free OS on the market that consistently filters jews and troons.
>>
>>106417965
A computer is a tool. Gaming will always be secondary. I can assure you that most computer users do not primarily use it for entertainment and games. If you want to play games use your Playstation (which runs on FreeBSD based OS btw)

OpenBSD is the best because they rarely make user-facing changes on the basic install. You can keep upgrading all you like and it just works. I've had Debian fail out on upgrades several times. Or be left with a fuckity state afterward.

FreeBSD, but OpenBSD is sexier
>>
>>106418498
FreeBSD is janky. Only OpenBSD has a good Unix-y way of dealing with wifi. Everything else SUCKS.
>>
>>106418517
I love wifi on OpenBSD (when it works)
join "network" wpakey "passphrase"

Out of curiosity do you use iwn? If so, are you also having to use it in mode 11a to get it to work properly?
>>
>>106418554
Coming to a *BSD thread just to post WIndows 11 Pro is a new level of loneliness. I'm not even mad, I just feel pity.
>>
>>106418566
Yes; no, in that order. I had problems a LONG time ago in the 6. something era. But it went away. I would have frequent slowness but I could flick the hardware wifi switch on my Thinkpad off and on again and it fixed it for say, hours to days.
>>
>>106418586
My wifi works perfectly until it suddenly doesn't. It seems to stop whenever I am doing something that requires more bandwith like for example using pkg_add for bigger packages or downloading something. Adding mode 11a to hostname.iwn0 fixes the problem, but the internet speed is significantly slowed. My current workaround is to just plug my phone to the computer and share the wifi through the usb.
Whenever the wifi has issues I am still connected to the access point and in appearance I still have connection, but there is no response to internet. Can't ping, can't use pkg_add and can't enter websites in firefox. Only fix is to do sh /etc/netstart. I also get iwn: fatal firmware error message.
>>
>>106418586
Do you mind sharing your hostname.iwn0 btw? Just to see if there is something I am missing. Obviously censor sensitive information that you are not comfortable with sharing on here.

Have you done a recent fw_update?

>>106418632
It's literally a list of networks and passwords, so no I do mind. There is literally nothing else in it.

>>106418652

>>
My favorite part about using the BSDs is the fact that no one responds to dumb faggots asking for tech support like: >>106417558

Who can't even be bothered to read the man pages. It's the ultimate filter to keep cancer out of the OS.
>>
>>106418660
>fw_update
Yes I have done it
>It's literally a list of networks and password. Literally nothing else in it
Really? I was under the impression you had to have inet autoconf in it
My hostname.iwn0 looks like this:
join "network" wpakey "passphrase"
mode 11a
inet autoconf
up
Are you saying I don't have to have anything besides the networks and passwords in that file? How does that work? Genuinely surprised at this.
>>
>>106418680
I don't really think "Can it game?" was a tech support post. It was a weak attempt at trolling as I suspect he perfectly knew it couldn't "game".
>>

>I suspect he perfectly knew it couldn't "game".
I suspect you're retarded because it can run anything that Linux can run.
>>
>>106418689
Everything is optional except network name and password (if required).

My conf looks like
join "Network1" wpakey "password"
join "Network2" wpakey "password"
...
inet autoconf
>>
>>106418751

>>

FreeBSD. Never used it, probably never will, but I like the logo.
>>
>>106418768
That's all I wanted to know. If you had something I didn't (besides network names and password obviously). But it seems it's the same as mine. Weirdly enough I did just now try to connect to the wifi and it has been working smoothly the last 10 minutes which is a record for me. Maybe it just fixed itself somehow. I will wait and see if it stays connected or not.
>>
>>106418792
Could be you just need to reseat the wifi adatper? I find stuff needs to be taken apart and reseated every so often.
>>
>>106418796
I am using a X220 and before this I had another X220. Same issues. Might be the router maybe, but I cannot check that as I am renting a place with shared router with owner and another apartment.

>Ok, does it have any decent image/video editing programs?
Yeah, you can install GIMP. Not sure about video editing as I never went through a "Youtuber" phase.

>What about office tools?
Libre Office and Open Office. Google Workspace also exists and only requires a browser, no install required.

>What do I do if i need to use government program?
??? Nigga, what government is requiring you to install custom executable software? Lmao. Government interfaces (like most things these days) are just a web app that you just need a browser to access. If your government is forcing you to install programs, then good luck with that buddy.

>And most people use their computers for entertainment so it's valid to care about games.
Eh, most people's entertainment comes from watching videos, reading, or playing low spec games, all things you can easily do with a BSD.

Playing modern high spec games still requires specialized hardware+software and falls outside of the realm of general computing. This is why gaming consoles are still a big thing and gaming PCs are specialized rigs. Most people still don't actually play modern games on their PC.
