every thread about this so far has been bitching but genuinely what is going to happen? will this actually be pushed through or will companies and consumers actually push back against this? its hard to imagine this does get put through since it will actively remove most reasons companies use android. if it does get pushed through, will it be easily sidestepped?
a better discussion thread

android'll probably be "forked" by a major manufacturer (probably samsung) and one of the custom roms will be picked up by one of those privacy phones and they will have devs moving betwen it and ubuntu touch whenever they have an arguement.
Then in 5 years the dust settles and we'll see who won.
also there will be an eu version of android without the sideload id tracking and until the solution is finalized we'll all just use the eu phone/rom

A lot of the EU nations are in favour of ID tracking retard. They want to know everything you do on your devices now. There are only a few nations who don't want it, or are at least not openly supporting it.
>>
>>106422449
it started with ID verification for porn websites in the US, then in the EU, and not even a couple of months later Spotify mentioned enabling it for some of their strong language tracks, then we get this for Android and so on... and so on... and so on...

this is only the beginning.

you kidding, right? Scamsung is the most pozzed of all android's OEMs. Their phones are the most locked down pieces of hardware you can buy and their store is pure, distilled, ass cancer.

At this point, the only real definitive solution for this would be for some rogue multibillionaire to develop a new open smartphone platform and OS, create his own phone brand and put devices for sale with competitive pricing and lots of marketing push

My plan is to buy a Pixel tablet for my next grapheneos phone, buy an openwrt compatible router, buy a USB cellular modem, and buy a battery powerbank, and integrate it into a bag of some sort so I have my own roving cellular hotspot. OpenWRT will give me the flexibility to control my network traffic and ensure it's routed over (more) secure transports than just the open cellular connection. As for telephony, I can have that easily covered with VOIP for any PSTN needs. The main idea is to get the baseband processor completely off the application processor hardware!

100% there will be a way round it, this is just hot air and clickbait

a phone you buy off the shelf for your grandmother might have something like this installed and thats a good thing for when they go to googil.com and install google.apk

at worst there will almost certainly be an ADB preference you can use for the above average F-Droid user to turn this off

>>106427554
So there are some travel routers that allow IMEI faking and you can set them up with sillent.link but it's tedious.

Pixel Tablet is already pretty old and you aren't gaining a lot of security here compared to just using your phone directly with a vpn.

I've thought about similar setups for a while and if you really dig into it (like autistic 50 hours of research) you realize that you either use public wifi or deal with tracking form the phone companies.

They already kind of have this in place. If you want to publish your app to the Google Play store and monetize it, google forces you to provide your real name, a phone number, and an address due to draconian EU laws or something. I had been working on an app for a few months before looking into publishing it and discovering this.
I don't remember if this also applies to the Apple App Store
>>

It’s actually so free that successful competitors will make sure you fail

First, wait to see if anything actually happens. The thing hasn't even been beta'd . Next, this is not at the user end but the dev end. Is it shitty? Absolutely. However its ostensibly about dealing with Ruzzia, Huehues, Chinkware, and other places where there's a lot of crazy bullshit, so it may not be rolled out the same way in every country or platform. Do not buy a fucking iPhone, its even worse.

Realize that even if this doesn't get totally shitcanned during beta thanks to developer pushback, its probably going to be some sort of SafetyNet thing which we know, there are workarounds. Custom ROMs, unlocked bootloaders, magisk and rootless etc.. I've been able to run a banking app on a phone with an unlocked bootloader and magisk installed (not activated , but they used to bitch about it even being found by the OS). In addition, FDroid and sideloading will continue and Google will be shootin themselves right in the dick if they try to make that stuff obtuse. So ultimately while it is a concern, lets not doomscroll and freakout about it until it actually comes to fruition. Ironically one of the Pixels may be the best option as its the device that is used for development at the highest rates and allows users to override and use dev options, while of course having AOSP builds. So for now, keep your eyes out.
>>
>>106428529
If it is for devs, then it makes some sense, though who will be the one to do it if it is a huge multinational company? The CEO?
>>
>>106428529
Not all phones have bootloaders, though

I just paid 700$ for a Zenfone 10 a few months ago for example since it's the only fucking phone made since the S10E that isn't fuckhuge, still has a headphone jack, and either had a SD card slot or at least 512gb of internal storage, and Asus "claimed" they would release a bootloader for it but never did

>>
>>106430315
Actually it's Google enshittifying Android to match iOS's shitty "sideloading" which also requires verification
If Apple has gotten away with it so will googlel
>>
>>106430512
Why did Jewoogle and Samsung/Worst Korea suddenly decide they need to make make knock off iPhones that are ironically even more expensive anyway? I remember Samsung originally made fun of Tim Cook for removing SD card slots and the aux port and then quietly doing the same thing.
It's like they forgot what made Android appealing in the first place.
>>
>>106422470
>>106423730
The problem is that bootloaders for Android devices are all locked down and you have to build custom OS images for each specific device.
>>
>>106430611
only autists want sd card slots and aux ports.
there is more normie cattle than there are autists.
samsung is a business (wants to make money), not a daycare for autistic neets that can't afford $1000 phones.

>the problem is it was a giant glownigger psy-op honeypot from the very beginning
Many such cases. Also I just heckin love it when big tech companies grift about 'muh environment' while simultaneous manufacturing destined to become E-waste. The only company I can think of that's actually practicing what they preach is Fairphone last I checked.

Also the whole Google luring people in with the promise of a 'secure and customizable' phone always did feel like a big red flag, I mean compared to most of the competition sure but you can bet on top of Qualcomms backdoors Google also added a few of their own before they started commissioning their own shit anyway from TSMC or Samsung or whatever... Plus in some LatinX countries like Spain cops absolutely will harass you if they catch you with one since from their perspective it's le epic hax0r drug dealer phone and not just a phone for nerds an spergs, lol.
>>
>>106422449
i only use my phone for work purposes.
when i get home from work, i turn it off and put it in an isolated room where there is no reception.
i never connect it via my home router not even with a vlan or whatever, never create a single handshake.
phones are a compulsion. i treat it like a dangerous substance that i have to use sometimes, but when i'm done, i lock it away so that it doesn't interfere with any aspect of my life. i don't think there's any other way these days.
>>
>>106422449
It'll absolutely be pushed through.
>>
>>106422852
>android'll probably be "forked" by a major manufacturer
Unlikely, maybe they'll use HarmonyOS at best
>there will be an eu version of android without the sideload id tracking
No, they'll be advocating for it in fact
