Holy fuck the meme was actually true
>2019 bought a thinkpad on ebay and flashed libreboot with a CH341A
>2021 running Gentoo on a Framework laptop
>2023 running Debian on a Dell XPS
>2025 thinking I should probably just buy a macbook
>>
>>106423137
Bit late. MacBooks got unpopular since swapping out x86.
>>
>>106423137
i'm telling you it's a phase, i full-on linuxfagged for an extended period of time but now i just use Windows 10 IoT LTSC on my desktop and barely have any use for my thinkpad, i'm thinking of just putting windows or some zero effort distro on it like Mint instead of Arch or whatever bullshit it's running right now.
>>
>>106423137
what exactly is the issue?
>>
>>106423137

Are Linux users the same as project car enthusiasts? Seems the distro hopping and such is more about hopping and not about getting anything of substance done
>>
I use Gentoo at home, Windows/Mint on my laptop and a Macbook at work. Why are you fucking retards always thinking you can only use one thing?
>>
>>106423723
Arch is literally zero effort though
after you install it, it has even less maintenance than distros like Mint that have the annual major upgrade that sometimes breaks stuff
>>
>>106423137
It's mainly a lack of intelligence issue.
You can effortlesly find people who have been running Linux since the 90s, foregoing Windows completely.
I myself have been using Linux ever since the launch of W10 roughly (I stayed with 7 for a little while) and only use Windows when I need to fix something in a relative's computer.
Simply put, I think you're just retarded, really.
>>
>>106423137
I spent 3k on a macbook thinking it would be the ultimate nix machine but and it's nothing special really. I am thinking of selling it and just downgrade to a phone. I just don't care anymore
>>
>>106424839
>Simply put, I think you're just retarded, really.
your assumption that anything i said has anything to do with difficulty says it all.
>>
>>106425432
>assumption
When you mention an unofficial BIOS, Gentoo, Framework, and default Debian only to decide on a Macbook which is designed to be as fool proof as possible?
It's not an assumption, it's a prediction. That you confirm it by bringing up difficulty is just the cherry on top. Of course though, you're too retarded to imagine that someone can actually infer context you have not directly stated.
Retard.

I've never owned an Apple product in my life(other than maybe an ipod a long time ago), but it seems like it's the exact opposite?
Like people are genuinely impressed with the M series, even if they hate Apple.
Actually I just remembered I had an iphone 4 a long time ago.
But either way Apple is shit.

Like computers, some brains only have a limited amount of something akin to RAM.
So they can't actually handle more than 1 thing at a time, or it's like their brain starts swapping.
Or for some people, they have no ram and swap is their life.
>>
The longer I worked in tech, the more I appreciated Linux, and the more I just hated almost all forms of technology. I'm 10 years deep and would never use something so kiked out like windows or mac.

I like Linux, but nearly all of my computer related hobbies are dead. The internet has been effectively enshitified to the extreme, gaming is pure ass, people are enormous faggots, tech simply exists as a vector for control, espionage and marketing at this point.

It was never that good. Any forum that has any sort of community will suffer from powertripping tards as much as the current centralized websites do.
>gaming is pure ass
Indie games are good. Retro games are not going away.
>people are enormous faggots
Just like real life. People suck regardless of time period
>tech simply exists as a vector for control, espionage and marketing at this point.
It was always the intention due to its military background. The Internet was too slow to be viable until the last 20 years.

I have pretty much tapped out of the internet at this point besides browsing 4chan. I thought that the remnants of the internet I enjoyed would stay online forever, but it seems like it's either in the process of being decommissioned, removed from search results due to SEO gaming, or drowned by AI-slop

It was a lot better the further back you go in time regardless of the ever present powertripper.

Hello, how is 2009 going?
>>
>>106428910
~20 years ago I had like one main BBS style forum, and a little corral of secondary boards where I had ~50-400 posts.
All of them were shit. I never truly enjoyed my time there. Probably applies to you too. It's more romantic in retrospect. You just misremember and have nostalgia goggles.

>>106423137
I am still using 2008 thinkpads with libreboot. I bought everything I needed to flash it like 15 years ago but I didn't flash it until a couple years ago.
I have like 8 2008 thinkpads I don't think I can ever break enough of them to justify building a modern computer.
>>
Windows 11 is retarded, macos is marginally less retarded, and linux is usable. turn off the computer and go outside
>>
>>106427977
I only play games that came out before 2001,they are amazing.

Yeah the internet is fucked but it has mostly to do with too many third worlders that have nothing useful to say or contribute.

Do you think I didn't use any other distros or devices before 2019? I've been using using the same WM/dotfiles since 2016. The distro is irrelevant outside of packaging.

I've been using Linux systems exclusively for the last 20 years. my last proprietary OS was Windows XP. it might be a meme for you but it's definitely a serious and successful lifestyle choice for many.
>>106424266
not all of us are distro hoppers. my average time with a distribution is probably approximately 8 years and that's a long time to examine choices and wants and needs. needless to say, I get a lot of work done.

I mean, it was like that back when I used a debian-based distro (ubuntu, mint, and debian) as a dailydriver back in 2020-21

as a server it's not usually a problem since I don't install many packages
but desktops get bloated to fuck with a bazillion dependencies and I run into issues almost every time going through the major version upgrade.
surprised you haven't ran into this too, unless you're just shitposting and don't even use debian distros

your government knows everything you are doing everywhere in real time wether you use a computer or not, wether you use a smartphone or not. Think for just one second at the camera tech inside an average cell phone. What kind of imaging capability do you think satellites have these days? They can also see inside your house whenever they want with various tech. You cannot travel without being tracked constantly by networked cameras. You are cattle.

The ARM apple drivers are complete and utter garbage. They aren't useable for anything besides browsing the internet and writing text.
Apple used to have the best hardware with the best support, now it is unusable.

If you only browse the internet, i don't know what you are doing on the tech board.

Then it thinks that the mockery and bashings it's received since it was a child are some sort of conspiracy against it.
Fucking pathetic - but that's what freetards have always been, and always will be.
