is the AUR the one where any dipshit can upload malware? free as in freedom to install a cryptominer
>>

yeah!

>>106427273
Nooooooo, no one would do this because muh heckin’ hacker credo. Yikes.

Brutal honesty.

I don't have a single package installed from the AUR. And not even because I'm avoiding it (I am), but because there's nothing on there that I need. I looked at some of the most popular packages on the AUR and I don't need any of that stuff.

That's because you don't do anything important with your PC or your time. That's not the flex you think it is.
>>
>>106428305
Do you just browse the web with Firefox?
>>
>>106428438
>>106428449
nta but let me guess you NEED a new ricer program with 2 stars from github to make your terminal bounce and glow when you type or some shit but are too lazy to build from source.
There's nothing necessary on the AUR. Everything important is in the official repos.
>>
>>106428563
>There's nothing necessary on the AUR
gtk3 patch for thumbnails in the file picker. xfwm patch for centered window titles. onlyoffice. gallery-dl. among other useful things
>>
>>106428563
I actually use Linux on my work computer every day, 8 hours a day. The super important packages I use from the AUR include cisco-secure-client, webex-bin, webcatalog-bin. Of course you have no need for any of that, since as I said, you do nothing important with your PC or your life.
>>
>>106424397
I use Arch. I have never used the AUR because I don't trust it. If it's not in the official repos I build it myself.
>>
>>106428595
>gtk3 patch for thumbnails in the file picker
>xfwm patch for centered window titles
If you need patches for basic functionality maybe your DE is a meme.
>onlyoffice
Flatpak.
>gallery-dl
pipx.
>among other useful things
Oh I'm sure.

>>106428633
>cisco-secure-client
>webex
Native .deb and .rpm packages. Shame you're on a hobbyist distro, huh?
>webcatalog
Official AppImage.
Spending half your day on your computer really isn't the flex you think it is lmao. I'll bet you're really important though, bud.
>>
>>106424397
github is not down buddy. use the mirror there if you must fully rely on unvetted randos to even do the version bumps in PKGBUILDs for you.
last update was minutes ago:
https://github.com/archlinux/aur/branches
unless you're using a "helper", and don't know how to configure it or patch it. that would be too sad!
>>
>>106428703

that niggery shit isn't going anywhere near my system
>>
>>106428449
Web browsing, vidya, media consumption. Even did some programming on it. Aka 99% of normal use cases. The fuck do I need AUR for?
>>
>>106428722
I'm sure something maintained by Ranjeet Sundhar on the AUR is much more reliable.

i get that you just being combative for effect but you know i wanted pacman -Qqm's just to have a list of software we use daily to show you specifically?
>>
I honestly don't understand how you guys manage to use Linux, I am not a blind hater, I really tried using it but it just doesn't work, it has all sorts of basic issues, that simply don't allow you to use it as a daily driver
>desktop
Have a NVIDIA GPU? No drivers, sleep mode won't work, Ubuntu wont even install for some reason.
>Laptop
No power management, Battery barely lasts an hour or two, no drivers for finger print reader
>>
>>106428722
Flatpak is actually vetted unlike AUR packages though. And it's sandboxed by default.
>>
>>106428815
>No drivers
works on my machine
>sleep mode won't work
no use case. if you don't use your machine just turn it off
>Ubuntu wont even install for some reason
it's like the distro itself is conscious about how shit it is and wants you to install something better
>Battery barely lasts an hour or two
my T480 can last 12 hours on a single charge, so can my A485
>no drivers for finger print reader
works on my machine

Never had those issues. Battery lasts same as on Windows for me. Don't use my finger print reader so idk about that. Don't have nvidia but the problem there I think is not a lack of drivers but installing the right drivers (open source stable/beta or proprietary stable/btea)
>>
>>106428834
>>106428844
I don't want to care about all that stuff man, I just want it to work, windows does it flat - without any ifs and buts.
>>
>>106428820
a package manager is supposed to have tight security since it runs as root and you dont want a bunch of randoms to put stuff on your computer.
arch users seem to think its normal to install a bunch of unvetted shit as root.

at least, they could allow package managers to install under /home/$user/usr/ or something for desktop applications

all things that allow users to install software without using root is ultimately for their own good.
especially if its sandboxed.
>>
>>106428859
>I just want it to work
it does work, you're just too retarded to install one package that makes it work
>>
>>106428866
trusting users with their own machine is not your... oh shit those digits. nvm you win. i concede.

lmao. let me search for a comment i saw the other day..picrel.
VERY IMPENETRABLE. and you totally need sqlite and libxml2 to use KERNEL namespaces. in fact, you totally need...
% pactree -s flatpak -u|wc -l
182

...182 packages to use KERNEL namespaces.
looks like flatpaktards are really the ubuntards of this era. lol.
