Recommend me a laptop with good hardware like a macbook but not a macbook because I want it to run linux.
I don't care about gaming, but a nice keyboard and screen is important.

$2,600. About the same price as what you posted with the ROG, but you're getting the 5080 mobile with this instead of the 5070ti mobile.

Oh, and AMD > Isratel CPUs

This is used- like new. It's $3000 new

Loonix doesn't work with Nvidia GPUs and your battery will literally DIE

Buy a maxed out T series ThinkPad.

I like my P14s Gen 5 stinkpad except the screen.
Mine has an IPS and it's dreadful, get the OLED.

I guess a surface laptop cause its also aluminum frame and runs ARM

I get that the stock screen is pretty bad (even though you can easily swap it for a much better panel anyway) but what's wrong with the battery? I can use mine for like 12 hours on a single charge
>>
>>106428437
i have pic related and am running linux on it. its exactly what you want, and does everything. gaming, hypervisor, nice keyboard, nice screen, nice speakers. best laptop purchase ive ever made. requires alot of tinkering to get things working but once you have it setup nicely its the comfiest linux experiand you can ask for and theres a good community if you need help.

T14s or X1 Carbon. The latter weighs less but has less battery life.

do you mean you have the laptop in OP pic, or did you forget to post an image?

Funny enough the gaming laptop, Asus ROG zephyrus, is the most Macbook like thing you are going to get hardware quality wise.
>>
>>106428871

I have two of those, : D : D : D

< _<

They heat a lot...
>>
>>106432129
I have a Zephyrus g15 (2022) and the screen sucks dick. My acer aspire R15 from 2017 has a much better panel. I even move movies and tv shows over to it to watch on that because the difference is so big.

Also, the Zephyrus is hot all the time for no reason. No applications open, just Firefox with ublock watching a Youtube video and the goddamn thing is hot. Always.

There are only 2 usb type-a ports and they are both in terrible positions.

It has some kind of matte plastic case. The aluminum or brushed stainless steel on my old acer is much better. The ROG software is shit. I hate this goddamn thing and wish I never bought it.

This is how you get into trouble. You just find the highest spec gaming laptop that you can find with the best chips advertised and then max it out without actually looking into the backstory or history of how the company produces their laptops, their reputation, or what other people have said about the build quality or thermals.
>>
>>106439535

I would not touch anything MSI with a 10 foot pole
Had so many RMAs for these when I worked in retail years ago, even had a display unit fail. From what I've seen they haven't got much better.
Kind of ironic that they went for a Italian Car manufacturer like logo because like Italian cars they might be pretty fast and look good but they're unreliable.
>>
>>106448318
I have a 5.5 years old MSI at home (used as my home server nowadays). trackpad is shit, keyboard is alright (though it's the only brand I've seen use ANSI in my country, normally we use ISO), battery life is garbage, heats up quite a lot, original battery got swollen less than a year after I bought it (though I still kept that battery for a few more years before I swapped it and it didn't give me trouble), and like quite a few of their models one of the wifi antennas was located behind the GPU so when it was using the dGPU I'd lose wifi completely (was solved by physically relocating the antenna)
wouldn't recommend, that's why now I use it as my server and stick to my Thinkpads for daily use
>>
You would need dual cpu. Also you would need 32 core cou because llvmpipe and compiler shit overhead, and you would not like laptop anymore.

>>
>>106428437

>>
>>106428437
How light or heavy you want that laptop to be?

A 16" gaming notebook could weigh anywhere between 2 (some slims) and 2.6 kg ( 4.4 and 5.7 lbs for those, who can't metric).

A non-gaming variant would be between 1.5 and 1.9kg (3.3 and 4.2 lbs).

You get the idea.

Also, you might not care about gaming, but still care about dGPU.

They also have models that compete with the top-of-the-line Stinkpads, price-wise.

If any of you retards ever start a job at FAGMAN and get to pick your hardware, you can do your part and divert some of those funds into more FOSS-oriented vendors.

But who am I joking.

I'm self-employed and looking to consider a new laptop soon. Redpill me on system76, and especially how they compare to framework and tuxedo

>best CPU they offer is an HX370
Reeee why does almost nobody make laptops with the 395, my only choice is a 14'' from HP or some massive gaming laptop with a dGPU I don't need
>>
>>106453052
>Reeee why does almost nobody make laptops with the 395
I suppose because most professionals with fat CPU requirements would prefer to use a low-power laptop and remote login to their workstations.
>Redpill me on system76
That '76' is short for 1776, which is Burger slang for Freedom.
They were supposed to have become available in the EU at the end of 2022, but it appears that has been delayed.
I've only completely switched over to Linux in 2024, so I'm kinda new to the scene.
But they have Coreboot, that alone should mean someone should shove some money up their asses.
>>
>>106449691
full support is not happening, maybe never.

linus spit in asahi's face
creator quit.
one of the main devs switched to something else.
thunderbolt (displays) will probably never be supported.

eluktronics if you are a mutt or tuxedo if you are a euroid (redistributors)

M1 fags are cooked then when Timmy decided to axe support after MacOS 27. Respect to asahi devs for trying I guess, but what good is a half baked product for doing any actual work. I’ve heard you can at least game on asahi now so there’s that….
>>
>>106453130
>I suppose because most professionals with fat CPU requirements would prefer to use a low-power laptop and remote login to their workstations.
I've tried that, it sucks. All your tooling needs to be latency-aware and there's just always something getting in the way.

No, no respect at all
This was an entirely predictable end result
I called this years ago when they started
https://desuarchive.org/g/thread/83992086/#84033697
Rosenzweig was convinced to work on Asahi by Hector
Apple sold a lot of M1 Airs to freetards on the false hope it would run Linux
The project failed
Rozensweig should have continued working on ARM chromebooks and panfrost
Instead, Rozensweig just accepted a job to work at Intel
Someone who used to run libreboot because of Intel ME backdoors
That someone just went to work for Intel
