https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTNCYrLEezAThat's right, goy. No more DVD or Bluray for you. If you want to watch some film, you will have to pay a monthly subscription for the privilege of seeing a 3mbps 720p copy that may have been altered from what you remember to comply with modern sensibilities. That's assuming we don't put it in our "vault" and simply refuse to make it available for streaming.
You will own nothing, and I will be happy.
In a few years they will be injecting exploding capsules inside babies heads after delivery and life will become a subscription service.
i own like 10 optical drivers so i'll be fine
>>106428830if they aren't making the drives any more they definitely won't be publishing the discs.
actually, what happened to that "optical media" general?I was gonna ask if they had a list of MDICK BD drives that supported open firmware, since I apparently lucked out on pre-update Pioneer drive
>>106428848someone will always make the drives dvds became irrelevant two decades ago and i can find a dvd player right now
>>106428768They want you logged in to your government verified account so they can surveil everything you do. Offline media makes that more difficult. Soon owning more storage than 1tb will be abnormal.
bd-r drives will probably become cheaper as a result of this
i can get dvd drive for 13 dollars right now
>>106428858>someone will always make the drivesNo, dude. There have been like two companies that had the knowledge of how to build optical drives. That information isn't in a book somewhere. Someone isn't just going to spend the next 1-2 decades trying to figure it out. Besides, there's no economic incentive. Streaming services are where the money is made, it's where control is had, they will put you down if you try.
>>106428889explain this>>106428885you have chinese people making the drives
>>106428908>crap chinese dvd drives made with NOS or salvaged parts that will eventually dry upwhatever point you're trying to make aint a good one
>>106428945as long as it works who cares!i have one of these cheap chinese drives and it works fine
>>106428947>as long as it worksit doesn't. nobody is ripping dvds in 2025. that thing is not a uhd drive.
Can't wait until 20 years from now when people are working on a Domesday Duplicator 4K Bluray edition.
>>106428959uhd drive lmaoi don't give a shit about 4k movies
>>106428966>i don't give a shit about 4k moviesI don't give a shit about you. Leave this thread.
>>106428885/threadi am not watching your video op
>>106428830>IRL tiktok worldFuck this gay earth.
>>106428768Hmm no they are still being manufactured. The retard who made the video seemingly used an LLM as his source
>>106428885These are salvaged laptop drives that they put in an external enclosure. The actual drive inside is probably years old. Buy one and open it if you don't believe me.>>106428857The market is dead. Normies watch all of their content through cucked streaming services and optical media isn't dense enough for enterprise storage.
>>106430346No, my local supermarket just doubled the size of their optical disc area, it's nowhere near that
>>106428768There are billions of copies of used media. Physical media will not end for another 40 years.
>>106430356Physical media will >never< end. You always have so physically save data somewhere, the cloud is just another physical storage media
>>106430355Really? Where are you from? Here in France, most supermarkets barely have them anymore, and normies either watch Netflix or use these shitty malware-infested pirate streaming sites.
>>106430379"Müller" markets in germany, they usually have multiple floors and the ones with the kids toys and Entertainment area had the toys section completely replaced by a Entertainment products including many more Blu Rays including drives and blank optical disc media
>>106428768>download the pirated rip of your media from the internet>put it on your own physical drives>congratulations, you have just reinvented physical media
>>106430407Well, that's surprising. I guess that there still hope after all. How is the quality of the blank media? I'm guessing that it's all rebranded products from CMC magnetics, right?
>>106428768>what is jellyfin
>>106428768Technology followed the wrong path. We need a reset.
>>106430427I am not sure about the quality but they are surely rebranded yeah. I used to buy a bunch of DVD (this exact type: https://www.mueller.de/p/mueller-dvd-r-4-7gb-i-120min-16-fache-schreibgeschwindigkeit-25er-pack-IPN2914005/ ) and did write some unimportant data on it two years ago. Last time I checked few months ago, they didn't have bit rot.As for BRs, they also sell Verbatim
>>106430528>VerbatimAs far as I know, they don't make the discs themselves. Can you check one of the discs with cdrecord?
