Imgur's owner, MediaLab, has fired all of its staff and the site has become overrun with porn and spam. It will probably collapse soon.I'm sad to see it go, because it used to be a very reliable site for me, and I've used it for over 10 years.
>>106429687never heard of imgur, sorry
Good morning, Bhavesh Imgur sir
>>106429687mr reddit
>>106429687Imgur has been dog shit for a long time. The real tragedy was the death of abload.de a while back.
>>106429687>that one 10 year old hulk porn gif>the website is filled with porn oh noesthanks for wasting my time you stupid sexless zoomer.
>>106429687whenever I clicked an Imgur link I noticed all the recommended images weren't related to what I was looking at all, it was either overtly political leftoid crap or wholesome chungus crap
>>106429687I sitll remember seeing the first post by the guy who made it. He said he wanted a good no frills image host because all the others were shit or dying. In the end it became just as shit as any other preventing direct links and such.
>>106429687>the site has become overrun with porn and spam. That's strange because everytime I click an imgur link I find they purged the porno I was trying to view. Anyways Imgur was supposed to be a simple no fuss image host.
>>106429687PORN SPAM?!?!?!OY VEY LOCK IT DOWN LITTLE 30 YEAR OLD TIMMY HASNT SHOWN HIS ID YET
>>106429687good
>>106429687Man, is there any service that died harder than imgur? It was just a simple place to upload an image and then link it in other places. Now it had accounts, feeds, comments, recommendations, and you have to go out of your way to get direct links to images.
>>106429946The direct hosting model like catbox.moe or 0x0.st does not generate profitability.Like Imageshack, Imbur tried to create a social network. Unlike Imageshack, which tried to have a smaller and more professional niche, Imbur tried to cover a large number of users.Without a target Audience, the content generated by users is random. Random == chaos == low quality.A low quality site is not attractive to anyone. That's why whenever we entered the imgur before abandonment we only saw Facebook memes on the homepage.Meanwhile, compare with the imageshack homepage: https://imageshack.com/discoverImageshack is small because it has a very specific audience, but this small audience can live in harmony because everyone has defined goals, so the shared contents indirectly generate a minimum level of quality acceptable by the community itself.
>>106430041At this point the object is no longer about image hosting but social networking models based on image sharing.
>>106430041>tfw picrel
>>106430060Like Imgur, Imageshark is not just a "image repository" but a hybrid image hosting + social networks. On a social network identification is usually one of many preventive measures to ensure the minimum quality of UGC. In imgur there is nothing to guarantee quality, so that at this moment if your mother or child opens the imgur, which is neither a pornographic site nor restricted to adults, you will see penises, vagina, anus and sex.
>>106429824>>106429946Sadly, it's not a viable business model at scale.>>106430041>>106430138>Unlike ImageshackImageshack gave up though, made uploads account only, paid-only and deleted everyone's images, adding advertisements instead, ruining millions of forum threads and other sites to this day. They totally failed as a image hosting site and lost all their reputation and relevance. It "surviving" (in name only) isn't thanks to going to social media model, it's because they cut 99% of expenses by not allowing free uploads and deleting the vast majority of content and scaring a minority of people into subscribing, they could probably stay online in perpetuity just from people that forgot to unsubscribe. Social media isn't very profitable either.
>>106430305>Imageshack gave up though, made uploads account only, paid-only and deleted everyone's images, adding advertisements instead, ruining millions of forum threads and other sites to this day.based
>>106430305(cont) & >>106430319 We might see the same thing now but on an even larger scale with imgur, only this time it's not forums, it's services like discord. 10 years of history replaced with gambling ads. This is all discords fault though for having hard-coded benefits to sites like imgur that other sites nor sending files directly can access, forcing the use of imgur, tenor and gfycat (rip).
gooners if you like BLACKED it's perfect for you
>>1064299469gag
>>106429687Wonderful news. Community are all violent socialists, pro-commie """liberals""" and the whole site was a toxic cesspool of reality-dissociated leftists. Let it burn.
Curated politically correct "humor" is so cringe
>>106429687Good riddance. It was turned into a worse version of reddit with a community to match.
>>106429687I see, time to download my 13 year old screenshots then.
>>106431063User overlap is 90% plebbitors. The founder of imgur was adverising its platform on plebbit about 15 years ago.
