Is pursuing GiS as a career path worthwhile?
Depends if there is work available in your area, or if you are open to move to where there is, much like every other field. However, it is a field that will always have work available. Also, the amount of nerdy girls is nice, only second to marine biology.

>>106429718Gis a retirement home for surveyors
>>106429718No. the entire ecosystem is strangled by a few big players like ESRI and that is it, it is about as exciting as becoming an SAP monkey. Also things will not really change in that niche, the users are the ultimate boomers who won't and due to heavy regulations and bureaucracy also in some cases just cannot change. T. tried to build a GIS based startup but got bullied out by ESRI and surveyor boomers who are often scarily incompetent, imagine a guy surveying your bridge and then not knowing that WGS is unlike NAD not bound to tectonic movement of the American plate
