I work in a very kiked and multicultural city and robberies are common. I don't wanna risk information being robbed but I don't want to use a half assed encryption that gets bugged and then you can no longer access the data even if you have the password.

To add, if you're just concerned about certain files, just encrypt them in a 7zip folder.

I never had any problems with it, and I've been using it for 2 decades since it was TrueCrypt.
I did hear some stories back then about people losing access to data cause they forgot the password or cause the harddrive itself corrupted. If you are worried about data loss then either use a raid, or a NAS with raid to store the veracrypt container on.
Alternatively you could mount two veracrypt disks and rsync the data to one that you will keep as cold storage.

"Nooooo I should be able to get access to encrypted drives if I forget my password and don't bother with backups"

I can get access to my Google account if I lose my password by simply verifying my identity. Not having that as an option is poor customer service.
