>get new 16tb external hard drive
>have to wait a week to use it because my old ass pc takes that long to full format it
I was going to use H2testw to make double sure it's all good but that will probably take another week as well
>>
Are you too stupid to remove your external drive from its enclosure and temporarily mount it internally or something?
>>
Are you using USB2.0 ports/cable or something? Jesus Christ
>>
>>106433128
Why would you void your warranty like that, are you dumb?
>>
>>106433145
Oh god it’s worse than I thought, you bought ‘an external drive’ and not ‘a drive and an external enclosure’. You’re not stupid, you’re full-blown retarded.
>>
>>106433156
I'm not op but you sound more retarded taking assumptions like that thinking you're so high full of shit lmao
>>
>>106433185
>assumption
If they bought a standalone enclosure, then the suggestion that they mount the drive internally wouldn’t elicit a response of
>Why would you void your warranty like that

>maybe they’re using a laptop!
Grim. Just use cloud backups at that point.
>>
>>106433055
>16tb external hard drive
I wonder how much this retard paid. I'm betting it was over 200 bucks, although there's a good chance he's just trying to format a 4gb memory stick in a box with some weights.
>>
>zeroing out a hard drive
Why?
>>
>>106433215
>If they bought a standalone enclosure
You're still assuming more stuff when clearly OP said "external hard drive". Its ok, you don't have to make all these mental gymnastics just take the L and move on.
>>106433232
External hard drives sometimes are cheaper than standalone disk and OP use case might required it to be external.
>>
>>106433251
>External hard drives sometimes are cheaper than standalone disk
This is basically never the case for large drives, where you're better off getting ex-enterprise stuff that hasn't been tortured. For small drives, sure.
>>
>>106433236
You don't test your new drives? I do a write test with hdtunepro on anything new but OP probably used a usb 2.0 port or something to take that long.
>>106433268
Enterprises don't use external hard drives.
>>
>>106433301
>Enterprises don't use external hard drives.
I never said they did.
>>
>>106433251
>external hard drive
Explain to me what type of product they would to have had to have bought in order for the suggestion to ‘mount it internally’ to void the warranty on it.
>hint: if they’re using a normal drive paired with an enclosure, this voids no warrenty>>106433251

I remember my first NAS. 4TB HDD in Nas4Free or whatever the fuck the fork was called, ZFS on an old shitty desktop. Started copying files to it over the network. So fucking slow. I must have bottlenecked at the shitty router.

I Tyrone'd two 12TB (10TiB) the other day, why do I bed to format it ?

These things go on sale all the time. Good purchases.
>>
>>106438340
It’s garbage. Don’t pay for garbage.
>>
Ignore these faggots, OP. You're doing what works
>>
>>106433301
sure theres something to be said about testing a drive before using it, but blaming full format speed on a slow computer betrays a complete lack of understanding
>>
>>106433055
>full format
why the fuck aren't you just selecting the "quick format" check box
>>
>>106433055
that's a fucking waste of time. just do a quick format
>>
>>106433055
>USB 2.0
Bruh...
Buy a whole new PC.
>>
>>106433236
Low IQ.

>>106435690
Where/how the fuck are you swiping these drives? It's not like they're just laying out in the open.

Your reading comprehension needs improvement anon

It's easy as hell.
>>
>>106439934
So you're just grabbing them at best buy and walking out?
>>
>>106439906
The same way I Tyrone OLED TVs.
Don't pay attention to this fucking retard >>106439934. While it is very easy, it has NOTHING to do with any of the pathetic, faggot shit he's going on about.
>>106439947
He isn't me and no. That's not how it works
>>
>>106440067
So how does it work?

Reminder that you'll get 14.6 TiB of space

you are one stupid mother fucker op congrats, not because of the external though

Faggot encumbered by muh morals. Mad that you don't have balls to go after what you want and take it. Little bitch

>>106441328
probably very youthful, if anything

>>106433301
My write test on any new HDD, SSD, or flash drive is simply to copy over a 3-4GB file. Done. I've had an SD card fail, but it was old and dying. Horrible transfer rate, even on attempting file recovery I had to leave my machine chugging away at a literal snail's pace for close to a week. It was a dying 16GB card I had been using in my camera.

Many of us work for a living, so we "take" what we want as well, in exchange for the right amount of money. That is the civilized way and fair trade. If I disagree, I wait for a better price/deal. Types like you are the reason why the world is shit, and first thing I'd do if I could, is round up all types like you and genocide you all to make the world a better place for us all. The sacrifice is worth it.
>>
>>106438340
Worst pieces of shit. I own many HDDs that lasted almost a decade, all internal drives. I bought two external drives for backup and they failed within 4 years.
Drives that don't pass QC to be sold as internal drives get put in enclosures and sold as externals. That's why you get these "shucked" drives on the used market, which are garbage external drives sold for cheap as internals.
>>
>>106443082
>I'm a pussy ass faggot and I will moralfag and shame you, because you're not pussy like me
>>
>>106443082
Tell me, Mr. Civilized, when you pay for 12TB and you're really paying for 10TiB, is that "fair trade"? The world is shit, because of faggots like you who hide behind made up make believe magic spells and arbitrary bullshit standards to justify being pussy. Exactly what your theiving, pedophile, murderous overlords want—CONFORM. You stay docile and "civilized", I'll continue to capitalize on your stupidity.
>>
>>106443082
Hey, I have three 24TB hard drives that fell off the back of a truck. I'll sell you them for $300. You interested? You're welcome to test them to your satisfaction.
>>
>>106443562
>>106443082
If anything goes wrong after a month of usage, I'll refund you your money.
>>proudly criminal poorfag
Nah, that's how I stay rich, retard
>>
>>106443342
Had externals last over a decade and still going.
>>
>>106443082
This retarded faggot probably goes to a supermarket and pays for his own bag, because, the state he lives in shamed him into "caring for the environment", and the dumb ass doesn't realize that the state created a transfer of wealth to the big supermarkets. Yes, your .25c that they make YOU pay for adds up. It is your wealth and you are being robbed! "Civilized"
>>
>>106443082
I'm 24TB richer. How you living pal?
>>
