Why did Dell kill their only Linux laptop like this?
>remove trackpad
>remove fkeys
>add touchbar and fingerprint scanner that don't work
>zero developers buy it
>no XPS developer edition since
This was DEI at work, wasn't it?

anon shut the fuck up
Its a goddamn mass produced hunk of plastic you liberal faggot

No.
>>
Dell hid it at the back where almost no one could find it, which affected sales.

And who's fault was that saars?

Don't all the Latitudes all support Linux, autist?

>caring about factory installed linux laptops
did you know, you can take any laptop and install linux yourself
>>
>>106438399
you can install any linux on any notebook, doesn't have to be the one you pictured
>>

getting Desktop Linux to utilize a laptop's hardware: trackpad, audio, camera, sleep modes

Is a crap shoot.

At least when mrchromebox.tech was keeping coreboot up to date for chromebooks, you could buy a decent laptop with linux preinstalled, then flash it with a good distro.

Visit DuLL.com & use Ubuntu to filter the models.

Latitude & Pro Max models have a Linux option.

If that isn't enough, the Lenovo X1 Carbon gen 13 can be ordered with Fedora or Ubuntu, today.

The only autists in this thread are the Arch Linux fans.
>>
>>106439857
They won't fix firmware bugs that don't affect Windows.
It might not even get quirks added to the kernel if there aren't many Linux users with your model.

Does it come with superfish for linux?

I’m sure there’s an AUR package for it.

>XPS Developer Edition
Lol what. Developers use the Precision 7000 chassis. XPS is gamer toastertrash that can't actually do work all day.
>t. developer
>>

>the Precision 7000 chassis
You must have gigachad gymrat muscles if you're lugging that huge brick around all the time. Actual developers have to spend time working you know.
>Linus Torvalds says the perfect laptop is 12" screen and 2 lbs heavy
He's correct you know.
>>
>>106442730
I actually like the X1 carbon hardware. I've drooled over the thought of getting one several times. Then I always remember, it's Lenovo. They were caught like 3 times inserting rootkits into the bios. I'll never ever ever buy a Lenovo. They burned the bridge, then burned the ashes, the shot whatever was left of that into the sun. There's just zero chance I could trust any machine made by them.
>>
>>106442842
I do but that's not really relevant. When I was a squirrelly 130lb high schooler I was lugging around towers and CRTs. How much walking are you doing where a laptop of any size makes a difference at all?
>>
>>106443061
Stand in the airport security line for two hours sometime. It's real fun. Especially with a 10lb laptop. Especially if you have to do the airport triathalon and sprint for the gate as soon as you're out of security.
>>
>>106443111
I do it with two, but I don't have to travel all that often. I mostly work remote and go into the office every couple weeks or so for meetings and such. I'll definitely take a nice cool laptop with low quiet fan speed and a big screen any day.
>>
>>106438399
first time im hearing of this model, plenty of their laptops work fine with linux just get another model
>>
>>106443129
Well, I also have three spinal fractures that never really healed properly, so I've got that going for me. My current laptop is a 2.3 lb 13" fanless. An XPS would be competitive with that. A thicc precision 7000 is not.
>>
>>106443224
Ouch, that sucks man. For me it's annoying enough when the fans start sounding like a jet engine when I start a build but when the thing starts throttling performance due to heat I wanna throw it out a window. I had a thin work laptop before and hated it so much, it's the fat girls for me from now on.

how do you move the mouse cursor without a nipple or touchpad?
