I have never seen a feature ruin a platform as much and as fast as Shorts. Don't get me wrong, YT was already bad before it, but its implementation really took the site's usability to a whole other level of shitiness.

Agreed. The entire concept is retarded and the implementation is even worse. Some shorts are apparently clips from longer videos, but the links to the longer videos have never worked.

I wouldn’t care how much dumb stuff like this they added if they would just fix autoplay so it doesn’t loop the same 10 videos forever.

Here's a UBO script to block them
https://github.com/gijsdev/ublock-hide-yt-shorts

Just looking at the thumbnails while browsing the homepage makes me feel retarded.

Thanks, I knew there was stuff out there like this but never bothered looking for it.

Another thing that's really fucking annoying is how they started automatically translating video titles. I know that for Americans it might be a novelty, but many people outside America speak more than one language, and having a video in a foreign language – that you speak – really gives instant context of what you might hope from that video and so on, which you lose when they strip that information by translating it to your native language. They remove context and confuse bilingual users.

I wouldn't mind that much if the option only applied to languages that the person doesn't speak. I don't know, they show you some random video from Germany with a translated title or whatever, okay, I guess.

Although, ideally I would still like to have an option to just disable automatic translation

fall is here, switch to YouTube Pants™

I hate this. I want to hear videos in English in the original language. But then it thinks somehow that I am American or some shit, because videos on my own native language get translated automatically to that weird robot voice without me even enabling the feature manually.

+ YT on Mobile introduced literal popups WHILE PLAYING THE FUCKING VIDEOS NOW. Not that I care, I only watch them on my pc with UBlock, but come on man, the platform is shit. We really need another alternative (yeah, I know about Odysee, but one could be an actual alternative).

kill yourself

Before shorts came up, youtube was infested with 20min fluff videos that never get to the point and waste your time.
Because youtube decided to show more ads if it was >10min, so the "creator" earned more.
Thats why
>video starts at 5:20
became a meme.

Shorts are the exact opposite. They summarize it as short as possible.
Which is in itself cancer, BUT it is better than the garbage we had before.
If you want to watch 95% ads and 5% content, watch the superbowl or something.

Did I do something wrong, why am I being punished like this?

Pro tip: Stop being a good goy and block youtube on all your devices / network

The front end I use allows me to disable sharts in general as well as remove them from showing up in my subscription feed.
