I really like the classic laptop docking stations. Replaced my desktop PC and I don't need to sync data since I keep everything on one device. What should I get for this kind of experience after T480 becomes obsolete one day?

I have one for a T540p, though that is almost too old to enjoy now a days. It is a ThinkPad Pro Dock model 40A1.

T540p is pretty solid, even if you haven't upgraded the i5. I prefer myself Tx50 onwards for dual batteries. It's a real shame that X280 onwards has soldered RAM (it's already bad as it is with socketed RAM on these due to lacking dual channel).
Modern day ThinkPads or laptops apart from MacBooks in general are baffling with 3 hours on battery on average, 2 hours under pressure. Everyone is copying Apple in the worst imaginable ways.

got 2x trusty x230 with docking station and dont see how i wont be using them in 10 years from now

>i5
It is an i5-4300M w/ a GeForce GT 730M running antix 23.2 with IceWM. I think it is sluggish to me because of the HDD ;3. I might drop an SSD inside but it still has a hard time on the web, sadly.

It makes no sense to me.

YOU NEED MORE THAN 2 CORES 4 THREADS OKAY?

I hate when faggots preach this. I5-2520m is absolutely fine.

I think my limit is a Core 2 Quad. Anything less just makes being that little bit extra patient tedious.

No.

I don't see the utility of these over a usb hub especially now most laptops charge over usb
My old dock would always act up if I bumped it or didn't press down enough

Most laptops are shit and USB docks often have coil whine of sorts.

I loved my T440p dock. Now I have an expensive anker thunderbolt dock and my screens sometimes flicker off for a second before coming back.
The kachunk sound of docking your laptop is so much more satisfying than plugging in a loose usb-c connector.

Yeah, classic docks were cute and neat.
Modern ones are more practical.
