We asa society probably shouldn't have allowed this. Computers designed from the ground up exclusively for encouraging passive consumption and actively discouraging creation or experimentation or productivity shouldn't have been allowed to become so popular, especially among young people who are only just learning to use a computer.

What has OP created with his epix HAXX0r UNIX powerstation except endless 4chan threads?

zoomers literally don't know how to use file systems. they just throw everything into a huge Downloads folder. a chromebook really shouldn't be anyone's introduction to computing. nobody's saying you need to build your own pc and only use gentoo or whatever, but chromebooks are clearly not good for tech literacy.

I have a personal website. I made a couple flash games in the 2000s. I've made a lot of chiptune music during my tracker phase. I released one app that flopped like ten years ago. None of these are things you can do on Chrome OS unless you're using a 'web app' to do it. You get websites and extensions and that's pretty much it. The most creative you can be with a Chromebook is, say, composing emails or editing documents. It's no way to live.

>unless you're using a 'web app' to do it
you just BTFOd youself
>>

What's your favorite 'web app' DAW anon? Can you even name one? And if you can, how does it compare to, say, REAPER, which is a software you can download and use for free on literally any computer that isn't a Chromebook?
>>
>>106452153
My favorite DAW is Reaper and it runs fine on my chromebook
>>
>>106452344
>yeah Chrome OS is totally fine actually as long as you install a completely different OS on the machine and use programs built for that instead lol
>>
>>106452383
I didn't install any other OS
>>
>>106452554
REAPER doesn't run in the browser.
>>
>>106452583
Correct, I am not running it in the browser

Then you're lying about something.

>>106452798
Or, perhaps, you know jack shit about ChromeOS and are just peddling memes you heard on 4channel 10 years ago
>>
>>106452818
I owned a Chromebook for a very long time. I know how it works. You're not running REAPER on that piece of shit.
>>
>>106451501
I would like to have a chromebook but paying $200 for such a shitty slow computer is too much. Make them $50 and I'll buy one.

The hardware on chromebooks is also a crime. They do nothing used older laptop with Linux on it couldn't do. It's just a crap on of immediately obsolete hardware
>we as a society
Multinational corporations make decisions. You have no say in it.

I don't see the difference between a chromebook and a ms laptop for tech literacy?
If anything, the chromebook challenges into a linux environment if you desire more. Microsoft just shovels everything in your face through the ms store. Same goes for macbook.

The Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14 looks pretty nice.
>>
I mean a chromebook is objectively productive if you use it for google docs and whatnot.
don't disagree with your other stuff but seriously what the fuck has changed with laptops or computers?
phones are where the change has happened, not computers.

ChromeOS has crostini now anon. You can run real Linux applications on it in a container. However, no matter how hard I tried making ChromeOS work for software development, it always failed in some way that was built into the "security" of the system. I've been using Chromebooks as my main device for about 8 years now, but I run Arch Linux on them.
That will likely change after this chromebook keels over and dies however, because mrchromebox.tech hasn't updated the device list a few years. I can't even find a new device that is supported anymore.

Also it doesn't help that chromebookdb.com is now dead too.
