Why is Firefox choppy as fuck on GNU/Linux/Gnome/Nvidia? It's only Firefox.Other applications are running as intended. What gives? How to correct this if there is a way?
VA-API on Chromium+AMD works by enabling Vulkan: https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromium/src/+/refs/heads/main/docs/gpu/vaapi.md#VaAPI-on-Linux-with-VulkanBoth Chromium and Firefox support only VA-API, which is a set of API that AMD and Intel cards support. NVIDIA doesn't support VA-API, and so hardware video decode / encode doesn't work in any browser on Linux. It falls back to the CPU and Chrome may be more CPU efficient than Firefox.
>>106454472Might be because hardware acceleration is disabled by default with Linux Nvidia drivers. You can enable it through about:config but you may get problems. Make sure you have correct drivers.media.hardware_video_decoding.force-enabled truemedia.ffvpx.enabled false- disables the fallback decoder. Restart ff.I think that's it. Search for more info. I don't have Nvidia card so I don't know.

Nvidia is a joke on Linux & Windows 11

It also has this problem where fonts look deformed if you're using fractional scaling (wayland). Enable that on firefox and it's a fucking mess. In contrast, if you have an AMD GPU, fonts look correctly. The workaround if you use Wayland and nvidia is to use Firefox xwayland. I'm pretty much done with nvidia on linux, fuck nvidia drivers
