I am going through deleting my accounts and transferring them away from my Gmail, but what email provider can I use instead for accounts that I don't want to delete but is associated with my Gmail account (since I plan on deleting it I need to replace it with a new email address).

I know about cock.li and I like some of the domains, but can I use my own domain?
I'm thinking of making a disroot account too unless there's something I'm missing it seems good not that I looked particularly deep in to it.
Last option I am considering is self hosting I believe Luke Smith made a video showing how to do that with the correct way to make it not get sent to spam.

Sorry for making this thread I know it's been done like 9000 times already

+1 this is the only conundrum stopping me from deleting my Google accounts

Is this really the only problem you have with Google?

If you are in Fourteen Eyes go with Proton and just use aliased emails (masked emails). Otherwise go with fastmail and use masked emails (aliased emails).

Masked/aliased emails are fake emails so you dont have to give your actual email

I like runbox. Ultimately you have to accept Email isn't a secure form of communication. The act of emails going through fiveeyes countries means they're probably snooping and recording them, and while they're encrypted up until the carrier, at some point they have to be decrypted to be put into your mailbox and that's usually where they put the attestation.

Also this, Proton is the GOAT when it comes to privacy. Runbox is fine for privacy but ultimately its private through obscurity, most people don't know about Runbox and you can bring your own domain (expect every single registration site to throw a fit about that if you do, though)

Current mentions:
- Self host on a VPS (4-6 per month), can also act as a VPN and web server
- cock li, some controversial domains but free
- Disroot, free comes with a lot of other things apart from email
- Proton, free comes with a lot of other things apart from email
- Fastmail, 4.50 per month, includes 60GB cloud storage, custom domains, masked emails, 2 addresses to split work and personal emails
- Runbox, a few different plans pretty cheap, custom domain and aliases are supported
- Tuta, free, le hecking quantum safe, only 1 calendar i think proton had 3
- ghostbox cc 5 euros one time for 256MiB, unclear if you can pay for more storage, it seems payment is in monero or litecoin

Some of those offer free trials, Runbox for instance has a micro instance you can try free for a year. Give them all a try. If you use a custom domain, you can just swap the domains between them and it looks like the same email address to anyone you give it to

NTA but for me it's Fastmail. I don't wanna shill too hard, because it's a paid service and Australia is part of five eyes, and it's explicitly not E2EE, but they're the most "quality" provider and even made and open-sourced their own protocol JMAP which is a mobile-friendly and labels-friendly alternative to IMAP (but they still offer IMAP support). There's a good FOSS client for it called ltt.rs, it's on F-Droid.
They also have unlimited masked email which you can rename. I use a separate masked email address per service.
Their webmail UI is the best webmail UI I've ever used, so much so I use it more than my native email client because it's simply faster. It's also got built in theming and recently they also added offline support.
Oh also another killer feature that makes me use Fastmail is that you can hook up other emails from other providers as bidirectional push/pull mirror. So it will fetch new emails from it, and let you send emails from webmail or any IMAP/JMAP client just through Fastmail. It's good for archiving emails and keeping everything in one place, since over the years I have like 10 emails and I never know what goes where, it's nice to know everything funnels to one inbox and I never miss anything.
They also let you hook up custom domains with catchall addresses for both name and subdomain, and have masked email on that custom subdomain, if you don't have a domain they even let you buy it from them.
Well I ended up shilling pretty hard, fuck. Remember it's not E2EE so they can read all your data. And it's paid, no free option.

Also they raised prices last year apparently:
I never heard of it before, it's literally been over a year and I'm still on the old $5 standard plan. I still haven't got any email about it.
But now that I hear about it, I might change from monthly to pay 3 years ahead (yes you can do that) so I get to keep the old pricing until 2028 lmfao.
Sucks that they split the standard into this "individual" and "business" bullshit though and locked custom domains behind that. They're the same price tho idk why they did that. Pretty retarded.
