Haven't used AM4. But PBO with an undervolt would be a good place to start. Maybe a thermal limit on the high side as well if it doesn't cut into performance. But again. I've only worked with AM5 and 7000/9000 processors. Looks like there are lots of guides online as one might expect.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIZOFcdGp8s
>>
>>106456765
Id say 32" is the max for desktop use
you might need desk thats deeper than usual to fit a larger monitor
then the gamer monitor has much higher hz which is nice. You dont want 60hz.
>>

like a 85°C limit?
>>
>>106456791
luckily cinema is 24hz and code can run just fine on 60hz with ease
>>106456800
I need the screen to be tall, the arm doesn't interfere here. it's for fitting a fuckton of code in it, and height is good for that, no necessarily width
>>
>>106456811
>like a 85°C limit?
That's what I have. But again, it can eat into performance a little bit if you're trying to squeeze everything out of the CPU. Just make sure you have the cooling to do so.
>>
I usually just use a laptop with single screen but now since i have another monitor plugged in I'm starting to remember that dual monitor might be a bare minimum
which means if you buy a new monitor you need to literally buy two to match them, and to avoid issues, which will double your cost

buy one monitor might aswell not even buy one at all

buy two or bust

thoughts on this logic?

I need dopaminergic content running on my side monitor at all times, also, no cheap 32" 4k monitors exist it's all just the 27"
idk how they are that much cheaper buy they are

might just buy dual IPS 4k and fuck off for a decade because fuck it, but now I remember I have not even tried LG C4 as a monitor yet, the guy hating on that shit here complained about the subpixels being shit, but being shit is tolerable as long as it does not give eyestrain

so many unanswered questions.... and since you have to try to get any practical knowledge here I might just have to consoom one to try, the C4 42"s are still on sale, although like 70€ more than they were at their lowest

Schizo ramble out, stick around for another episode next time, need to sleep
>>
>>106456838
what if you used a monitor arm and then turn a display vertically
theres a program from microsoft store called screen rotate where you can quickly change the screen orientation

then youd have way more height for when you code
>>
>>106456885
I could probably save a good amount of money that way. But I just kinda want it to do everything at once and to not need to turn it around. I could get my current one turned to the side and then get this one to act as main. I'll research this. Thanks for the idea, I kinda discarded it initially but it can make sense.

hmm so I used the recommended settings from this video. when I do a test with OCCT the app just doesnt respond anymore. my pc does not crash tho
>>
>>106456960
probably unstable, try setting the curve optimizer magnitude to 20 and if that fails, 10
>>
>>106456680
i remember you

PBO is not gonna help your game performance on a 5800X, the stock limits are already excessive
curve optimizer will help a little bit but be careful using this on the 5800X, the normal clock limits and voltages are already pushed really high
i couldn't run more than -10 CO on my 5800X without random freezes (that 5800X was kinda terrible, but you don't know if yours is any better until you've done a lot of stress testing)

still worth it if it helps you get into the overclocking spirit

>my hz didnt really go up
with the -20 curve magnitude, you'll be able to maintain the boost clocks longer without hitting the temperature throttle limits
>>
>>106457045
that's a low frequency, did you lower the power limit to 100 W?
or did you apply a positive CO offset instead of negative CO offset?

5800X all core should be 4.5ish with a negative CO offset
maybe 4.2-4.3 in a power virus like prime95 or OCCT extreme

you also need to do core cycling when tuning CO offsets, OCCT can do this in the CPU test
select "core cycling" under thread settings

>>106457065
frequency should go up in all core
even in single core it should be hitting 4.8 instead of 4.7 consistently

>>
>>106457097
keep the limits at default instead
try -20, if it crashes try -15, if it crashes try -10
this isn't as easy as enabling DOCP or copying a youtube video, you're getting into manual overclocking now
just warning you
>>106457114
that still seems very low, you're only loading one core at a time
you aren't thermal throttling either

here's what i believe you should be getting:
>4.2 GHz when running on all cores
4.7-4.8 GHz when running in core cycling mode
4.6-4.8 GHz when gaming

you should literally just be able to set the negative curve optimizer to -10 or more and get those frequencies
no other changes
i know there's some variance in silicon quality and stock VF curves but -20 CO should do it for sure
here's an old screenshot i found, it was doing 4.6 on all cores at 140 W (ignore the WHEA error lol, that's caused by the RAM speed not the curve optimizer)

no, it will run at the same temperature but with higher clocks
until you hit 90 C

might be better to look at benchmark scores rather than the frequency in OCCT
this is what techpowerup was getting at stock settings, if you are significantly below this score in cinebench R20 (>10%) something is wrong or your cooling is inadequate

Welp, my AMD CPU of 3 years just died after a power surge. Started out as white VGA light of death on mobo, but CPU fans and GPU fans were running. First, I suspected the battery, swapped it out and shorted the switch, didn't work. The perhaps a corrupted BIOS. Rolled back and went forward, neither worked. So then perhaps a dead GPU. Swapped out my trusty 3090 for a 3060 ti known working, crossing my fingers that I didn't just lose a $1k component due to electricity, didn't work. Then I try out a single RAM stick and swap out the RAM as well, didn't work. Then perhaps it's a dead PSU. Swapped out PSU with one known working, didn't work. Perhaps it's the drives or the connection to a faulty fan, I unplug it all and repeat troubleshooting steps. Then I begin to suspect the motherboard. I buy a new one, it arrives, and I build it. Same symptoms (but this mobo has no diagnostics so I have no idea what it is). Then by chance I see someone mention that CPU is responsible for ensuring communication with PCIe. And it clicks. That's why I see a VGA light. I spent the last three days running all these diagnostics to get to the cause. The absolute worse case scenario has happened (which nobody accurately predicts with my symptoms because it's so rare). Luckily I had a 2nd build to test my 3090 and its PSU so I know they are working fine. I'm keeping the new mobo anyways, because I'm sure a bad mobo caused it anyways.

This is such an expensive hobby. I wish I wasn't a poorfag so I could indulge in it; as it is, I can only afford to build computers I actually intend to use, which naturally I don't need to do that often.

It's connected to an old generic power strip that looks like this:
https://www.grainger.com/product/52NY55?gucid=N:N:PS:Paid:GGL:CSM-2295:6VHHZD:20500801:APZ_1

It does have an LED at the top that says "surge". But desu I didn't even know what surges were until my PC died following an outage that last about a sec. That's not a fancy protector or anything, but I do have a 1000w 80 plus gold msi power supply. And even the mobo was supposed to have its own protection. The PC was probably on idle. I just got really unlucky.

Think about it this way. Almost all ips screens have the same contrast 1000:1
Pretty much nothing else matters. They're all mostly the same. There are some with higher contrast but those are just too expensive. If you want something that looks good in motion while gaming get a IPS. If you want something that looks good overall but badly in motion then get a VA screen. Personally i like VA screens better since they most of them have 3000:1 contrast ratio.

As we closely approach the alleged 50 Super with more VRAM, my guess is Radeon won't appear at all this gen (maybe down the line when prices drop further). AMD trick in its sleave is that 9070 has 16GB of VRAM and its a bit faster than 5070. But that its just not enough to overcome Nvidia ecosystem of ML goodies.

A potential 18GB 5070 at 549$ will absolutely kill anything AMD wise (I also don't think AMD will do refreshes).

Hello faggots I just built most of my PC again, except I didn't change the graphics or storage. Here's what I'm running

>CPU: Ryzen 7 9800x3d
>CPU Cooler: Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120Se RGB
>RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32gb DDR5 6000
>Mobo: Gigabyte B850M Gaming X
>Storage: Samsung 860 + 970 Evo
>PSU: Seasonic Focus 750W
>GPU: RTX 3060 Ti
>Case: Fractal Design Pop Mini Air

Now I want to find a better monitor and GPU. I currently run an Asus VG27AQ (great monitor) as my main, but I hear that the OLED panels are pretty good these days. Don't really see a point to 4k, but I know I'll want a better card to drive the monitor. I'm thinking of a 5070 Super when that releases, since that'll be reasonably priced compared to the absolute scams that are above it (as well as having a healthy 18gb of vram for the future). Is there anything else I should consider?
>>
>>106459729

1. It's likely to be $550 base like the original 5070
2. 18gb is good but it's not gonna have enough raster power to matter when 18gb of vram is necessary to max out new games

It's literally "whoops we 'forgot' the vram the first time around, tee hee sorry guys" and nothing else except a boost clock push and a fully unlocked die for the 5070 super (48 -> 50 SMs). Not like the other Supers where they changed the die structure more significantly.

>>106459878
depends on the load but you can undervolt the curve on the PBO to try to lower the temperatures, keep in mind that the cooling does not dissipate heat it just make sure your hotspot stays below temperature at the end of the day you are still getting whatever amount wattage your PC is consuming inside the case so having the right airflow or cooling on your case is just as important than your stock cooler

nah, thermalright peerless assassin 120 se v3 is less than 40 bucks, you can easily reuse that cooler on a stronger cpu years later (you would just replace the fans if needed). The stock cooler is serviceable but third party air coolers are cheap, reliable and durable so consider getting one
>ram
if you are gonna use ddr5 might as well get a kit that can be used later on. In this instance make sure it has 6000mhz and Cl 30, just make sure it has those numbers, research what that means on your own
>fans
for fans, like the op says, just make sure they are pwm fans (it stands for pulse width modulation), essentially it allows the motherboard to tell the fans how fast to spin depending on how hot the system is instead of setting fan speeds manually and without modulation. The arctic p12 pro fans recommended in the op are cheap and come in packs of 5 which is all you need when you dont use liquid/water coolers. the fans go 3 in the front as intake (fans pull air from outside into the case), one on top left and one in the rear both of those as exhaust (fans pull air from inside the case to the outside)
>psu
if you go with the Radeon then yeah 650w but honestly 750w and up are much better quality and more abundant. Cross reference with the tierlist and reviews in the op to get a good psu that won't explode
>samsung ssd
im assuming its a sata ssd instead of an nvme ssd, at least consider getting an nvme gen4 as your boot drive, 256gb-500gb would be more than enough if its for just that but even 1tb wouldn't be too expensive

Not to mention that I sometimes edit huge RAW files in lightroom, I think I might get an 8-core to speed that up too. 7800X3D looks ok, despite the price, 9800X3D is way too price right now.

Yes, I can add a heatsink, and anything else, after the 14 day return period. It's the consumer friendly policy of allowing us to return any product for any reason (even no reason) within 2 weeks of purchase.

hello anons, what is the cheapest possible GPU you'd recommend that can run RDR2 @ 4k ultra 60 FPS? thank you :D

5070 ti would be the lowest end gpu one might buy for 4k

They already tried to gaslight you into thinking the overheating ssd is fine when its not. You might want to consider returning it and just building your own

with upscaler at performance setting, 5060/9060 tier cards should be enough

What about no upscaling, but including buying things second hand?

Not looking to run anything else at 4k desu, just RDR2 with no RT (p sure RDR2 doesn't even have RT)

They're still a tad pricey in Europe, the cheapest base model is 840€ for ZOTAC, then MSI Shadow at 890€, Trio at 930€ and TUF at 1040€ roughly.
Maybe I can still wait it out a little bit, I just checked and 9070XTs are at 650€ which is a very meaningful difference, they were around 800€ last time I checked.
