How often do you buy a new phone?
>>
>>106458764
I buy a 2 year old Pixel once every 2 years
>>
>>106458764
i have a pixel 6. probably gonna toss graphene onto it because why not considering the whole android sideload nonsense.
>>
Cheapest Redmi Note phone every 4-5 years
>>
>>106458764
Every time
>>
>>106458813
every time?
damn bro can you build an igloo out of phones for me
>>
>>106458819
Sometime yeah
>>
>>106458764
each time my iPhone isn't officially supported for security updates anymore so every 7 years.
still using my beloved SE 2 which will be supported until 2027.
>>
>>106458825
that always means no ):
>>
whenever the old one costs more to fix than a new one
>>
>>106458764
As infrequently as possible. I'm still using a phone I've had since around 2019.
>>
>>106458764
When the old one dies and isn't easily repairable

Or maybe never technically, because I'll probably only buy used

Ideally I wouldn't buy or own a phone at all
>>
>>106458764
mi mix 2s
oneplus 7 pro
samsung s24+

that's my upgrade path
>>
>>106458764
Whenever security updates stop coming in. For 5 years of updates on $700 pixel phones that's on average $140/yr.
The used market is better though. Pixels get $200 cheaper each year for the first two years then $100 cheaper on the 3rd year. A pixel 8 refurb is $300 right now and was released in 2023, so that's $200/yr depreciation. A pixel 7 refurb is $200 so that's $200/yr depreciation for two years and $100 depreciation over the last year. Two year old phones are the sweet spot at around $100/yr on phones still getting security updates while still having an extra 1 year of hardware updates compared to a 3 year old phone.
I'm planning on getting a renewed pixel 10 in 2 years for $300 and still have 5 years of updates since they're now standardizing on 7 years of updates. That's an average of $60/yr on a phone as opposed to buying brand new and spending $140/yr.
>>
Every three years or so I'll grab a new flagship model
>>
every 4-5 years or so. i'm going to get a iPhone 16 Promaxx to replace my 12 promaxx later this year.
>>
>>106458936
What's the point of upgrading that often?
>>
>>106458792
This, when the ram is not enough for the apps I'm using.
Imagine if we could add ram to phones like we can to computers.
>>
Still using the same phone I got in 2019 because 5G networks were fully a thing in my country then. There's been no technological reason to upgrade since.
>>
>>106458764
For smartphones, on average once every four years since I got my first in 2010. Before that, it used to be about every two years back when I was using dumbphones starting with my old Nokia 3310 in 2004.
>>
Company provides new phone every 2-3 years so at that point.

So what'd you have before 2018 when the mix 2s came out?
>>
>>106458764
every 1-2 years
I'm too clumsy and I break them
>>
Probably 5ish years. I used my last one until the glue holding it together disintegrated and it started falling apart and the exterior case was the only thing holding it together.

>>106459188
there isn't considering my pixel 5 still gets 18+ hours of battery as long as im not fucking watching video all day
i honestly dont know why anyone bothers to upgrade at all. seems like phones have stopped improving and even regressed because all of my friends folding phones all seem to be peeling off that sticky screen protector-esque layer off their displays after only a year
>>
>>106458764
when it's been some years and i see a genuinely 60% off deal on a same-year model phone that isn't on sale just because it was shit

whenever it stops working
next time, i'm probably going to buy a feature phone or flip phone if i can find one that supports 4GVoLTE or 5G or whatever the cell network standard is at the time since Android losing ez-pz sideloading will eliminate my last reason to use a smartphone
i'm kind of over phones; it was a neat era for a while, but it all just sucks now
>>
>>106458764
whenever my dad's gets too fucked up and slow I give him mine and buy a new one
>>
>>106459417
that's actually sweet (full homo) and probably one of the few legitimate reasons in this thread
>>
First phone was a Samsung sch-a530. Internet says it came out in 2002.

Second phone was the sch-a990. Probably my favorite phones. Internet says I got that in 2006 which sounds about right.

Something happened and I needed to use a new phone for a while. Totally forgot what it was cuz I hated it.

Fourth phone was a Galaxy S5 which was 2014

Fifth phone was the Galaxy S10 which was 2019

And current phone is a iPhone 14 Pro Max. Which was 2022

I'm going to hole onto this phone until someone makes a seamless under screen camera.
>>
>>106459357
You just described my phone right now, kek. But I have tape holding the screen together, because this sucker still has a few more years left in it, it's only 4.5 years old.
>>
>>106458764
whenever it breaks or stops getting security updates. recent pixels are getting 8 years so...
>>
>>106458764
When the old one becomes a security risk, which is at least 5y out if you buy on release.
>>
>>106458764
Every 4-5 years. Hoping my current one might last at least 7, but we'll see how it goes.
>>
5 years or when support for my current phone ends
>>
>>106458764
About never. Someone gave me her used J7 years ago, which I rooted, degoogled, firewalled, unpozzed and optimized into a heavily customized "micro pc" that runs exclusively free third party apps and doesn't even have a sim card. This is my daily driver, mainly because it's substantially more comfortable to use than a laptop when I'm lying on my back in bed. Still does everything I need it to do and does it well.

>>106459873
that's the dream, nice work anon

Samsung galaxy s5 (multiple, used until 3g shutdown)
Samsung galaxy s10e (gps chip broke)
Samsung galaxy s22 (current)
>>
I have never bought a new phone.
>>
>>106458764
almost never buy a real phone, now that jewgle is going to remove APKs that arent signed by playprotect i am going to hodle all the phones I can get my hand on and never updoot.
>>
>>106460358
im still on 11
>>
>>106458764
every couple of years and i switch back and forth between android and iphone depending on my mood. Never buy new, no phone has ever been worth more than £500 to me so that is the cap i set.
>>
Using Samsung A70 that I got in 2019... Still on original battery, makes it through the day no problems.
>>
>>106458764
Every 6 years.
>>
>>106458764
The latest iPhone every two years so I can blend in.
>>
>>106459244
Don't imagine that, that's bad for security. You need to buy a new phone every year and throw the old one into the landfill for your own safety. For your own good.
