How is learning to code going for you?
>>
>>106459032
It's gone good I suppose, magical even
>>
>>106459032
When they say AI they mean Indians and downsizing, but it's convenient to push to the idea that AI is the reason when it sustains the bubble and helps them fool investors into thinking they're still growing.
>>
>>106459032
i already know how to code and have job experience

i'm miserable and a failure in most other aspects of life thoughbeit
and unemployed
>>
>>106459309
>i already know how to code and have job experience
>unemployed
How?
>>
Is it worth it to learn how to code for fun?
>>
>>106459408
i lost my job and then didn't apply for another one and even though the money is running out i can't get myself to start looking for a job again

i know it's a very first world problem and i'll probably find another job sooner or later but i'm still miserable and am really struggling to find motivation to do anything at all
>>
>>106459433
only if it's fun for you
>>
>>106459032
It won't because I already know how to do it
>>
>>106459433
yes. i like java, but it has a lot of rules you might not appreciate or need in the beginning. i'd recommend learning python, it's widely used and you can do a lot of things without having to download stuff apart from python itself (they call it "batteries included"). find small tasks to automate, break them down into small steps and then solve them piece by piece. it'a lot of fun
>>
>>106459032
Good
>>
>>106459492
i was the same, but lucked into a job at consulting company. can recommend, anything is better than brooding at home
>>
>>106459032
Bad. I'm retarded and I can't get a job or learn anything new
>>
>>106459032
Learn to code, loser.
>>
>>106459492

im in the exact same position.

im on severance but it runs out soonish and i just have no motivation to do anything. i open my ide and just stare my cursor blinking and then either try to take a nap or go grab fast food or something.

i dont feel like doing anything at all
>>
>>106459552
Try watching anime all day
>>
>>106459032
bullshit narrative, those some from overemployment during covid
>>
>>106459563
i did this and it added both length and girth.
>>
>>106459552
Is it because AI makes you feel worthless or just your own personal lack of motivation in general?
>>
>>106459640
which one adds the most? asking for a friend
>>
>>106459655

idk. maybe im just depressed. but i dont feel like building anything or learning anything new.

maybe im just trying to figure out what i want to do with my life. i spent my last 10 years at a single job that i didnt particularly like but it paid the bills and my coworkers were okay.

now i dont have anything to do really- i had to get up and go to work but now its like i have nothing that i really *have* to do. when i first got laid off i just played some video games on my backlog and watched a lot anime. but now im bored. there isnt anything that currently makes me want to get out of bed.
>>
>>106459790
99% people dont like going to work but bills have to be paid. you best get to to it before AI displaces even more jobs. I find it insane you just played games/watched anime instead of aggressively job hunting. I had enough money to last an entire year when I got laid off and I still spent nearly everyday job hunting because who wants to burn through all their money + can't buy/spend anything + the longer you're unemployed the harder it gets to get back into the workforce.
>>
>>106459032
I welcome this. If you look at the current state of software, it's all malware jeetslop retardation. Devs overstayed their welcome, now it's time for a purge.

This does not affect me either way.
>>
>>106459894

im sort of lucky where i got some severance that is conditional on not taking another job for a certain amount of time.

so maybe i should be job searching rn but if i were to find one id lose the rest of the severance... which isnt a lot or anything. so maybe i should be doing that.

like do most devs work on projects and stuff outside of work? i was someone who only really did stuff at work and then spent my free time playing video games or watching anime.

now that im not working im not doing any programming and im just not sure if i should be or not but its not like i did it before.

but yeah if generative ai keeps advancing i might not even have any jobs to go to.....
>>
>>106459523
yeah i started with python because its supposed to be "easy" but from what I've seen on this board, people hate it and its just some shitty (no pun intended) pajeet programming language which would make sense if its the most popular language (or at least is is these days) and indians will exist within the fucking crevices of anything to do with computers
>>
>>106459032
ai is updating windowsrl to delete your files and crash
>>
>>106459433
Yes, in fact it's only worth it to learn for fun right now since there are no jobs
>>
>>106459032

Pretty good for me. Started learning in 2021 and now i'm heading up an AI startup making $120k fully remote. I'm constantly poached on LinkedIn and I can confidently say that this whole AI doomer sentiment is a grift. Literally no difference in job opportunities, i would say for me personally it's granted me even more opportunities.

If you aren't experiencing what i'm experiencing then the problem is YOU. I'm probably not even as experienced as those who will find my commentary triggering.

Again, the problem is YOU.
>>
>>106459667
boku no piko.
>>
>>106459032
Until the job market improves, coding is just for a hobby, which in the long term could improve your chances at getting hired (if you make a decent portfolio in the meantime). Just gotta wait for the MBAs to all die first.
>>
Statisics are created to spin a lie
>>
it's great for simple problem i think great.

i even trying to compile "vxkex" for my own use. can't even compile due to too many error. asking AI. too complicated. give up. lmao
>>
>>106459032
Writing web applications has to be the most boring CS job. Imagine studying 4 years to spend your days using slop frameworks
Let the indians take care of these
>>
>>106459032
I support everything that makes z**mers suffer
>>
>>106459032
AI - Always Indians
>>
>>106459492
I was similar and then started my own company. Fuck working for some other retard.
>>
>>106464771
i want to make a game and i spend a lot of time playing different indie games, following new releases and even when i'm too lazy to even play a game i follow content creators who play all those new releases

but when i started making a game i spend more time building the internal framework and optimizing shit and trying out language features in my favorite language instead of actually working on the fun game part

somehow i managed to trick myself into having fun doing boring crud apps and blackout when it comes to my video game passion

maybe i'll have to spend some time being a homeless bum before i find the motivation to even try but i really really like my warm bed and puter and pizza in the oven

thanks for reading my blog
>>
>>106459032
Didn't jobs.now disprove this?
>>
>>106459536
>anything is better than brooding at home
Wrong. I quit my web dev job 8 years and lived off crypto since then and I’ve enjoyed every moment of it. There’s nothing better than having unlimited free time to work on your own programming projects. I dread the day I run out of money and have to go back to working at a job again. I’ll probably kill myself before I subject myself to that again.
>>
>>106459492
Get fucked. None of you chimed in to stop this "progress".
>>
>>106460623
Python is just good for scripts, specially since it's easy to glue-in libraries from other languages with it, yt-dlp is a good example of how to use it like that. It'd be a bad choice for more than that though. It's definitely overused nowadays in places it shouldn't which might be why it gets hate, there are also other choices for the usecase these days that might be better in some respects, python's advantage is mainly having so many bindings libraries already made for the things written in other languages that you want your scripts to use
>>
>>106464951
my struggles have absolutely nothing to do with AI and only tech illiterates and maybe new grads worry about it. i lost my job because the higher ups made retarded decisions and the whole company went under. maybe they got talked into it by AI who knows i'll give you that
>>
>>106465012
Some companies will definitely be going under because of higher ups and investors falling for AI-hype
>>
>>106460673
>the problem is YOU
That's a lot of YOUs documented in a Stanford study though
Also your startup is going to nowhere if you won't put AI gimmicks somewhere into it
>>
despite being 52% of job seekers they contribute to 13% of job decline
>>
>>106459032
I already know how to code
>>
>>106459894
>I find it insane you just played games/watched anime instead of aggressively job hunting.
I don't. The modern job market is unironically hell on earth.
>>
>>106459032
My company tried to go AI (All Indian) like 5 years ago and we spent probably 2 years trying to unfuck all the work they did and then never hired Indians again. I assume AI will go mostly the same cause it cant code either
