Greeting /g/entlemen

I am from /p/ee and I need your help to build a website to showcase my photography portfolio and art projects. Everybody uses Squarespace or Wix but it is expensive and subscription based(puke). Can one build his own minimal professional website for free even if he doesn't have any pro/g/ramming experience? Please share a noob guide for making a portfolio website. I will also share it with fellow /p/issers. Thank you.

What's wrong with just using instagram?

shut the fuck up lmao

neocities is a good place to start. Flickr lets you host fullres images, although they started charging a premium to download fullres images. I know an endpoint to get the full res image though.. If you can sign up for a place like tilde.club, maybe that can also work.

Website is secret filter to differentiate between hobbyist and professional photographers. If you are willing to put in effort to make a website and upload multiple projects people will take you more seriously. It is more professional to send client or publisher your website link instead of your Insta account. Insta can work as general portfolio but with website you can divide your work in projects so it reaches the audience in more coherent manner.

Website is also a very dignified way to present your work. Insta with it 5 inches screen is a humiliation ritual for all visual artists.

the problem with instagram is image resolution. like pinterest, they compress the fuck out of everything under 1000px

Don't you need programming for it?

>Flickr
I know about this but I need a domain with own name and shit.

True
Also insta's desktop version is so ass and fucked with bugs. All of the photo look like shit there. Death of tumblr was a dark event for photography.

It's not hard to learn enough HTML and CSS to make a decent looking site. Or you could just ask ChatGPT to make it for you

Yup, just look up vibecoding. People are pumping out those kinds of websites with AI like crazy nowadays. Then afterwards you can ask the AI to teach you how to put it online. I recommend using Gemini if you're going this route.

Just make sure your website isn't providing any sort of service, or has code running in the backend. It's fine to create static pages with AI, but things can go south fast if you start to host a web service without having a single clue of what you're doing.

Now, if you wanna learn how to code something basic, go to W3 School for HTML and CSS, and then find a nice book for Javascript.

You should be able to find free neocities templates probably.

Neocities with a basic HTML/CSS website is the way to go. Once you get it working get a cheap Domain from somewhere like GoDaddy and point the DNS at it

Learn how to create a static website using Hugo and host it using Cloudflare Pages. Specifically look into the different types of grids. A column based masonry grid is probably the best option for a image portfolio.
