life was better with internet that you needed to turn on. always-on internet was a mistake.

That much a day is definitely unhealthy. In 20 years we will see horrifying effects from internet addiction.

you can always turn off your adapter

I think this is the crux of why everything is fucked. Normalfags used to have drastically reduced internet usage because you had to sit down behind a computer to access it, and they didn't want to do that for extended periods of time. This also created a clear border between the online world and the real world. But now everyone is effectively online 24/7.

>90 minutes a day on the internet
Hard to believe. Another clickbait title

ever since my boss has been gatekeeping 70% of my responsibilities for some reason (i think he thinks they're gonna replace him with me) I have been spending 80% of my 10h shifts on 4chan

As predicted by several futurists.

Damn, this guy is breaking time itself to spend 4 more hours a day online than possible.

What's funny is the normies are the ones most likely to be unhealthily addicted to the internet these days, while before it would just be autists that were likely to end up like that
>>
>>106461389
You're attributing a timeframe to a sector of the population due to your personal failings. This line of thought is not useful to anyone, least of all you.
>>
>>106461389
serial experiments lain predicted all of this, except the fusion of worlds was stopped in it

90 minutes wasn’t shit in the era of dial up. It took a good five minutes to just connect and log into your mail and chat clients. If you had AOL like most normies then it was even slower sometimes. I remember waiting 30 minutes for Realplayer to buffer enough to play a video clip.

>>106465692
>try to download 1 video/image
>have to stay connected all day
>go outside and do whatever in the meantime
In a way, having instant speeds makes you stay online more & for longer.
>>
>>106465692
That era certainly promoted long dedicated sessions at designated times over the constant short sporadic sessions spread through the day that people have today, overall time spent per week is probably a lot more now but it's spread in a way that's harder to really realize
>>
>>106465761
Yep. I could go buy a pack of cigarettes and a Mountain Dew before an MP3 would finish downloading from Napster.
>>106465777
Trips checked
Also, I was a teenager so I was only allowed a few hours a day after school. I would often wake up and get online while everyone was asleep. I also had arguments with my sister because we only had one phone line and she wanted to talk on the phone.
It absolutely was a different era.

I cant stop scrolling omg!!

Realistically, I think 90 minutes a day of Internet actually is too much, assuming that this is solely time dedicated to being online and not just seated at a computer. My work is remote and requires me to access databases, but I'd say 50% of each job is done outside of my browser. I've rarely needed to put in a full workday but the few times I did, I was still mainly typing up documents and scanning through shit I already had backups of.

And suppose that you're just using the Internet for general purposes like reading news, an hour and a half is still a lot. I used to try to read the entire physical newspaper every morning and it would take me just under two hours to go cover to cover, and that includes the redundant stories they shove in to fill column space. When I stopped receiving the paper and moved online, I had to put in effort to need more than a half-hour to get up to date on everything, because of how truncated online articles tend to be.

There's the elephant in the room of talking to people and playing videogames but like I said, those don't necessarily rely on you being constantly connected. I can send a message to someone, go offline for an hour and then pop briefly back online to do a followup. Obviously on an IM client this would look weird but everybody understands that you aren't beholden to their time or attention. And with games, if you're in the trap that is competitive ranked stuff or have a group who consistently plays whatever, your life is probably healthy enough you don't have to worry about spending too much time online.

Anyways my point is you don't need the Internet as much as you think you do.

I spent more time on the internet as a kid back in 2001 than this guy.

I remember when my parents imposed a strict 2 hour limit for using the computer. Now I see why.
