Is there a truly libre phone on the market right now? Pinephones are old, not fit for purpose, and you'd be lucky to even find one in stock anywhere.

No.

Phone's perfectly fine, you're just a retarded loser and a hopeless consoomer.

>and you'd be lucky to even find one in stock anywhere.
Still available from the official website, unless they don't sell it anymore but forgot to unlist it.

>Phone's perfectly fine
They're all old with shit batteries and can't run apps
>>
>>106461268
Like what? your booster status app?
>>
>>106461286
I don't know what that is. Is that some zoomer shit?
>>

>can't run apps
That was (partially) true up until waydroid didn't make retard proof installing android apps on linux, so you can have your normogroid slop available while still using a librephone.

What I mean was that the specs are too modest. Modern web pages are just shite and won't run on anything more than a few years old.

How is the pinephone pro right now for regular calls and sms? I heard that its still having issues with audio etc What distro is the best to run on it currently? Have you tried xmpp, specifically dino-im does it work fully? Literally want a libre phone for sms, phone calls and dino thats all.

Fairphone 5 with postmarketOS

Oh yeah that's a minor issue on a phone, really. It's not like you need phonics on a phone.

I agree.

I bought a decent metal-body phone that I liked and intended to run as long as possible, then within a year my provider dropped 3g (apparently the phone had other 4g ranges but not the one needed locally). Reee. They tried to fulfill their obligation to provide replacements with the shittiest thing possible but they eventually sent me an okay phone after that stock was exhausted and I had ignored it.

Librem One.

post link to source code of modem firmware for that thing
>>
>>106461056
phones are inherently not libre due to the closed source GSM firmware.
grapheneOS is the best you can do.

There are two modem modules available, neither is fully Free and Open. BUT - it connects over USB internally so the baseband can't spy on you like with ones where it's on the PCI or whatever bus with DMA. It's in a little standard module format the industry already uses, in the future the idea is to remove it and replace it with a different fully Free and Open modem, should one ever exist.

>>106465401
afair some nerds made open modem driver for pinephone. apparently, using it would be illegal in most countries.
>>
>>106461157
I had to eventually ditch it because the pinephone couldn't reliably receive MMS while in deep sleep. It was pretty close to a daily driver though. Waydroid worked for when I needed some shitty normalfag app.

PINE64 has discontinued the PinePhone Pro, and the original PinePhone will soon follow. In response to the recent news regarding Android, I wanted to switch to PostmarketOS and found on their devices list that the Xiaomi Mi 9T / Redmi K20 is well-maintained and offers the best support for hardware features. That's likely what I will switch to, considering the specs are good. Alternatively, the Liberux Nexx is in the works, which is much closer to a true libre phone.

It's legal, they didn't modify the RF firmware which is the heavily regulated part.
