I've had the opposite problem. With the side buttons, they would double-click constantly. And the solution, which I discovered much later because my google fu was too weak, was to go apeshit ugga bugga and press every button like crazy for a minute or two. At least it's working now.

Yeah, the wheel is a bit shit. Mine still works, but it feels janky and might fall apart at any time. Still, I've been using it for about 15 hours a day for years so I can't complain too much.
