I would like to ask /g/ how you manage your life between computer and mobile, how do you organize your notes, make reminders, and your schedule.
>>106465369I don't, my life is a mess. But I take notes and set reminders on mobile using the standard built-in apps and on PC I use Obsidian for everything (with community plug-ins). I manually move stuff around and also do manual regular back-ups. I don't need more, but I also cannot make do with less.
>>106465769I want Erica to give me rape correction.
>>106465769Where is the source code for that, basedjak?
>>106466733Who?
Paper, a physical calendar and a bullet journal mostly. Tech makes my brain feel all fuzzy. I have some typed plaintext notes for things I want to keep longer term though, usually with vim or nano or markor (phone) or something else that's super simple. If I need to sync them between devices I use syncthing.
>>106465369just write markdown files in a folder synced between them with syncthing, if you need more complex organization vimwiki using markdown as the format is pretty good too I've heard but I haven't tried it. for my phone's markdown editor I use markor and in my pc just neovim or whatever
>>106465369I use Logseq with MEGA to synchronize and backup everything.
>>106465369I'm running an OwnCloud-Instance for files, Calendar and Contacts. I take notes on a piece of paper using a pen. To sync it with mobile I fold the piece of paper and put it in my pocket.Things that are important/extensive become a Text Document File.
>>106465369for short term stuff a notebook (todoist in the past), a bunch of md files for long term stuff. also i never saw a reason to document everything
I got away from Google Keep for notes by using markor on my phone and rsyncing its folder of markup files to my NAS with syncopoli
>>106465369>how you manage your lifeHowever I can, given the circumstances.
>>106465369I message myself on telegram.
>>106465369I have a piece of paper stuck to my fridge with a magnet that I write things down on. Notetaking zoomers get the rope.
>>106465369>mobileseveral things>alarms/timers on a chinckshit smart watch>quick notes like grocery lists in a retro text editor>a calendar widget>talking to people (family) if something happens and they need to manage their lives to adopton>pcit's distinctly more long-term>~/Documents/org>system.org contains all the changes i made to my system since its clean install>agenda.org has a bunch of todo entries for further changes>~/Documents/org/notes has permanent notes, mostly for gayms>~/Documents/org/projects has notes and general todos for big ass tasks and pet projects>planning to fine tune notifications with custom stuffthat's about it.mobile's already similar to standard wagiecuck style of (((managing))) not-really-their life. what's on pc is a bit of an effort, but i like it. will expand. writing down thoughts lets me discover i achually have decent things to do and lets me keep a track on them.
>>106465369I hardly use my phone, but on my computers I use a fairly basic note taking style where I just use a text file. Not incredibly efficient, but it gets the job done.
>>106469472>>system.org contains all the changes i made to my system since its clean installHow do you do this exactly? This is one of the things I've been meaning to do, but I haven't found an amazing way to do it. I just use a basic text file, but maybe there's something better or more automated?
>>106469493It's called paper and a pencil. Accessible instantly and without electricity. People have been doing it for thousands of years and poking around on a fucking laptop or phone to type in "buy toilet paper" is absolutely retarded.
>>106469493it's manual, specifically all the commands i run, stuff i've installed, what requires what.>* system>** currently installed>a list of installed packages*** troublesome package 1>explain what tinkering was done to it>** per timestamps>*** timestamp 1>- action 1>- action 2>*** timestamp 2>...>** per action>a general log of all i've done>*** troublesome action>an extensive description>if any entry needs links, i'll paste them in footnotes of an entryit's nothing too fancy i'm afraid
>>106469583Oh ok, then we basically do the same thing. Yes, it's a good idea to keep a log of this stuff, the bug stuff especially.
Email, calendar, and paper. Everything else is mental illness.
>>106469493>>106469583Nix is how you do this correctly. Instead of writing a guide for how to recreate your old state, you codify your state and make it actually reproducible. Anything else is a retarded gimmick and reading >>106469583 actually made me fucking laugh at how sad it is.
>>106469753>actually made me fucking laugh at how sad it is.You laugh when you're sad? I think that's autism. Might wanna get that checked out.
>>106469676All it would take is 3 or 4 basedface youtube videos talking about how pencils and paper are the hot new thing and going into deep dives about the different kinds of leads you can buy and these retards would be lining up to spend $2k on sharpeners and designer cherry wood pencils. Animals.
>>106465369just remember most of it all and use the default iphone calendar sometimes
>>106469764I laugh because I feel the pain. I have like 4 or 5 Obsidian docs on how to thoroughly set up a few machines I had. And maybe it is autism, because it explicitly includes the fucking order in which I'm meant to change the settings even though it probably has no effect. I just feel better if I know it's done in the exact same order on all machines.Anyway now I don't care because Nix does it all for me. One config and I can be confident it's perfect every time, whether I'm installing a new system from scratch or updating an existing one. To Nix both cases are the same.
>>106469753my way may not be correct, but it's easy to me.i do set up things once too, then i just forget about them. the doc's for>future installs, which will be mostly distro agnostic, exactly like arch wiki, but written by me, and is not going to happen soon (also synced ~/ backups solve about 80% of the hassle)>debugging, which benefits from lacking nix's abstraction layer (though it may happen more often, i guess)>switching from software 1 to software 2to each their own
>>106469918No yeah there is definitely a tradeoff. If you only have one machine then a doc is all you need. But as soon as you have many desktops, laptops, servers, VMs, that all need to be in sync and have some common config, the value of Nix becomes basically infinite. It's like Ansible + Terraform in one for OS configuration.
>>106469753>solving a problem that doesn't exist
>>106469964>is a poorfag>only has one computer>"the problem doesn't exist"Lmfao
>>106465369for work I use spacemacs with org mode and org agenda and org roam. I also take notes editing these synced org files on my phone.for my life I use google calendar which is shared with my wife.
>>106465369schedule and reminders with google calendarnotes with phone notes or sending them to myself on ms teams or whatsapp
Why is every thread about note taking flooded with histrionic pencil and paper schizos who shit their pants about note taking software? I mean, it's one thing if you say>I prefer pencil and paper. Note taking apps aren't for me.But instead, it's always like>HNNNGH THOSE FUCKING PRETENTIOUS NOTE TAKING ANIMALS I WANT TO KILL THEM REEEEE THEY'RE ALL RETARDS MENTAL ILLNESS REEEEEEEEEWhat the fuck. Who hurt you? Did Shida Li shit in your cereal or something?
>>106470060because as a digital note-taker they're right. it's more effective as a note-taking method
>>106465369I hardly use my phone for anything. If I want to save some information somewhere and actually find it later, I write a quick article or something on a wiki I host on my home server. I've only started doing this relatively recently but it's already been super helpful with certain things I set up and then forgot the details about months down the line.
